Missed out on the discussion last night. Can someone give me an overview ?

OK, lets see where to start?

Art writes weird stuff, alleged by some on here,

David in Sweden drives a Volvo/Saab/loves ABBA,

Turkish is feeling picked on but has sold loads of A2 paper (hmm, not sure on that one),

Alpine still best loved poster on here,

Justmike taking time to settle in and finds Turkish loveable,

CB Fry, has it summed up and NC is on the case,

S-Clarke is the only ITK that I trust,

oh yes, manji thinks I have a 'hidden' agenda on NC.

I know I have left loads out but heck, this will keep you up to date.

ps, we might buy Gaston but if we miss out on him, it's Heskey.

You forgot Saints have bid 20m Euros for Iniesta and he's been spotted at the De Vere. Confirmed on twitter by Luigi DelRosso and Alan Nixon

and who could forget your absolutely hilarious post in a mock italian accent!!

I would have commented sooner but I have only just stopped laughing - haven't laughed that much since the classic sitcom series "mind your language" was on.

It really was like stepping back in time.

Thanks

For the last time, you can work on more than 1 transfer at any one time. I'm baffled as to where this theory has come from.

Well, I don't think it would be right to suggest that it doesn't use up time, resources and money to try to push deals through. This isn't an IBM or Microsoft size company that can have multiple members of staff popping multi million pound deals around every day is it? Ultimately it is dependent on Nicola Cortese isn't it? We are consistently reminded from people in football/on SSN etc how much hard work each transfer is and that, contrary to popular belief (and football manager), a lot of work from a Chief Exec or Chairman goes into these large transfers. I take your point but the multiple fingers in multiple pies scenario can only extend do far, that's all I meant by my post.

Tempted to lock this, it has gone the same way as the previous HCDAJFU thread. If another poster says something you do not agree with, ignore it!

Keep this on topic or it will go, can't wait for the end of the window.

Peace!

He's stamping his authority on the forum. Like the referee that gives an early yellow for an inocuous challenge to let the players know not to mess with him.

Trying desperately to pull the thread back to topic, I really think potential targets need to realise if we do things in private and should not speak to the press before signing. It cost Buttner his transfer here. He may well have proffered man Utd but we stopped talking as soon as he said 'oh by the way, don't forget my Dad's cut....'. If it was a case of being gazumped he would simply have said I've changed my mind. As for Ramirez, it is him talking to the press that has initially upset the president and caused him to harden his stance. We are just the victims in this. Still hopeful it will go ahead though. I predict 3 signings before deadline day.

I know what you are trying to say, but this is not quite right.

NC didnt forget. NC didnt know about it.

I am sure Büttner is less than peeved for having to settle for Manyoo after losing out on us...

As I said earlier, the biggest problem of the Ramirez transfer is that the clubs of potential targets now know what our transfer budget is, making it doubly difficult to close anything at a reasonable price. The situation is a total cluster-f*ck...

Why dont you put me on ignore then, if you dont want to discuss the perfectly valid point I make ?

This bandwagon jumping is so tedious...

Well stop giving people a bandwagon to jump on by being an irritating and unnecessarily pessimistic old sod.

You have no trust or belief in anyone. I can imagine you being the kid who carries his toys around with him all the time because if someone else looks after them you're worried you won't get them back.

Loosen up and stop being such a moaning minnie.

Why would this be the case? All that a club can reasonably infer is that we don't want to pay 15 million net ( from Bologna's point of view ). Says nothing about the other transfers we're looking at, nor about the other money we're prepared to spend. Transfers are a case-by-case thing.

If anything, I think the way that the club has gone about things with respect to the Bologna transfer makes signings at a reasonable price more likely. If we'd stumped up the extra cash for that immediately, we could realistically expect to be weakened in future negotiations.

Got a few days to figure it out! Id get Dawson but 8-9m seems alot

Wages ££££ too.

The general feeling in the press/media as to why Spurs want him out is that he's crocked. He'll apparently never fully recover from his Achilles injury - and will have to train at a similar capacity of Ledley King. One to steer clear of, maybe.

F*cking brilliant. Our transfer policy is all over the place.

I think Nixon is looking for a few bites from that. I imagine we have a list of CB's that we deem are good enough and a high enough quality to improve us - but it's a case of making the call as to which one to go for. Tricky one, will probably come down to who is the cheapest!

I'd imagine all targets have been sounded out as to their wage demands as well (via their agents) and the clubs have been asked how much they'd cost, so we won't be going into it as blind as Nixon is suggesting. We know what they'd cost, and how much they'd ask for - so it's just a case of making the call as to which one.

If we haven't done that sort of ground work, then I'd fully agree with what you say. But I don't think that's the case.

If that's the case I'm intrigued what the delay is for bringing these players in. Why we haven't made the decision yet who we want and gone and got them (we've said we want 2 CBs).

I'm sure we've made plenty of enquiries and whatever. Our failure to thus far get over the line is what concerns me.

We don't need 4/5. That's knee-jerking.

2/3 was always the basis of what we needed here and now, today's result doesn't change that.

If you expect more than that then you'll have a frustrating week methinks.

No disagree, In your view you think 2/3 will be enough. I never have. 2 CBs required, one left back and 1/2 wingers. We won't sign that many though I agree. Not a knee-jerk, when you get promoted to the PL you need improve big time, most of this team were playing in League 1 18 months ago, we need to move on.

And possibly a GK too.

IMO you are right and the S-Clarke is utterly mistaken.

EDIT:He's right about the frustrating week ahead though. I no longer have faith in NA and NC to do the correct business.

Nigel Adkins disagrees with you. Still missing at least 5 from the list he has said he wants/needs.

As for the frustrating part; yeah, we get it. That's why there's been concern we haven't done anything for weeks despite the number of players we're still outstanding per the manager's own benchmarks.

Don't know where the link is, it was widely reported at the time, after signing our first 3 players. He said he wanted "1 or 2 goalkeepers, 1 or 2 centre backs". He also separately said a winger, and the interest in Buttner suggested a left back. There's 6, whether Ramirez was included in that or not, who knows. I don't make these things up.

ah right...just going off more recent quotes where it seems 1 wide player and 1 maybe 2 CBs

I think that's all we'll get, but earlier statements were for more than that.

Then again, Nigel also said (in late July) "there will be new additions before the end of the transfer window and before we play Manchester City", and no-one actually came in. So the transfer committe have already failed to meet that particular target.
