saint lard Posted 20 August, 2012 Posted 20 August, 2012 Out of his depth,or just playing out of position ? we are yet to see the best of him,in pre season or yesterday.
Alain Perrin Posted 20 August, 2012 Posted 20 August, 2012 New club, new city, new team, new formation, new league, big price tag on his shoulders. Give him time.
Bucks Saint Posted 20 August, 2012 Posted 20 August, 2012 Blimey give him a chance. Thought he did well yesterday, given the top quality opposition and playing out of his usual position
Papa Shango Posted 20 August, 2012 Posted 20 August, 2012 Actually thought he played really well yesterday. Didn't look comfortable on the left in pre-season, but much better yesterday

shirleysfc Posted 20 August, 2012 Posted 20 August, 2012 Out of position for me. I think he's been added to the squad as the long term replacement for Lambert but is being used wide on the left until we have a proper winger.
The Kraken Posted 20 August, 2012 Posted 20 August, 2012 Out of position for me. I think he's been added to the squad as the long term replacement for Lambert but is being used wide on the left until we have a proper winger. Agree with this. The other settling in factors are also relevant but it makes it doubly difficult for him to do so while being played out on the left. Shouldn't judge too much from his performance in yesterday's game but it's quite telling that we started with Guly up front and Rodriguez left rather than the other way round. Makes you wonder what'll happen if we do sign Ramirez and Phillips as planned, £7M seems like an awful lot for a club like us to spend on someone who may sit on the bench.
Mowgli Posted 20 August, 2012 Posted 20 August, 2012 Best game so far. Needs better understanding with Fox but that will come.

Maybe my eyes were deceiving me but I thought Jayrod started up top then switched positions with Guly.
Saint Charlie Posted 20 August, 2012 Posted 20 August, 2012 You could tell his touch was class. He is a striker who can play out wide - Im sure he would rather play there than be on the bench.
The9 Posted 20 August, 2012 Posted 20 August, 2012 Out of his depth,or just playing out of position ? we are yet to see the best of him,in pre season or yesterday. Did a fantastic job yesterday playing left back...
The9 Posted 20 August, 2012 Posted 20 August, 2012 Maybe my eyes were deceiving me but I thought Jayrod started up top then switched positions with Guly. He wasn't up there for long.
doddisalegend Posted 20 August, 2012 Posted 20 August, 2012 They said on solent yesterday that J-rod played left wing as a youth player and that this might be a temporery measure until we get a proper winger in. I assumed we bought him to be a striker so it's hard to judge him playing out wide at the moment.
Aardvark Posted 20 August, 2012 Posted 20 August, 2012 Best game so far. Needs better understanding with Fox but that will come. Exactly. Some people will complain about anything.
Wade Garrett Posted 20 August, 2012 Posted 20 August, 2012 I reckon we'll play 4-4-2 a lot, especially at home. Jay wil get his chance up front, he does have a lot of competition though.
rick1976.4.38 Posted 20 August, 2012 Posted 20 August, 2012 had a good game and at times was better as a defender.give him time and his right position. one thing from yesterday, our players were a bit light weight.when nudged,as is the norm in the prem nowadays,go down and get the foul
sotonist Posted 6 October, 2012 Posted 6 October, 2012 He's traditionally a slow starter anyway, but it looks like we signed the wrong Burnley striker.
Turkish Posted 6 October, 2012 Posted 6 October, 2012 He's traditionally a slow starter anyway, but it looks like we signed the wrong Burnley striker. What are you on about? Danny Inngs is not a premier league player FFS
the saint in winchester Posted 6 October, 2012 Posted 6 October, 2012 I presume he means Charlie Austin. Well, that ship has sailed. Dave Merrington tells the story that he recommended Austin be looked at while he was still at Poole, but the club didn't go have a look. Swindon did ... and you know what happened next.

Well like the club would listen to Merrington about a young player !! I mean he only bought through Le Tissier, Shearer, the Wallaces.........
miserableoldgit Posted 6 October, 2012 Posted 6 October, 2012 He's traditionally a slow starter anyway, but it looks like we signed the wrong Burnley striker. TBF I will trust NA`s opinion rather than yours.
Bucks Saint Posted 6 October, 2012 Posted 6 October, 2012 I rate him, even though based on limited time up front against Arsenal. He will deliver
sotonist Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 lamberts long term replacement. He'll need to start scoring before late november then tbh. He's never scored more than three league goals until then.
david in sweden Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 lamberts long term replacement. YES . ..you have to give him time ......Recall that James Beattie had a miserable two years after he signed - before he found some real form.........
Dig Dig Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 Hope he takes his chance today. Is he starting?
S-Clarke Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 Is he starting? That's what I've heard anyway, prob bull****..! But Gaston is out, Morgan is out, Clyne is out, Mayuka is touch and go, Cork is out - "apparently". So we're down to pretty much the bare bones. Bit worrying cause I don't think we can afford to lose that group, as we don't have equal replacements for them. Guess we'll find out in about an hour or so!

Are these FACTS or what you've heard? Name your source FFS.
Dig Dig Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 Proof? Where is th proof? Are these FACTS or what you've heard? Name your source FFS. It's fine, I got a PM. I'm one of his e-friends.
mickyp Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 out of his depth not ready for the prem! 7million phaw! Burnley laughing as Austin scoring for fun!
david in sweden Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 (edited) Proof? Where is th proof? Are these FACTS or what you've heard? Name your source FFS. now now Turkish, he wasn't so far out - was he? Morgan played, but he was supposed to be out for some time, so maybe he wasn't 100% - but he played anyway. The rest seemed an OK call. ANYWAY.....this thread is supposed to be about Jay Rod...and he's on a learning curve....like everyone else in the squad who hasn't played in the Prem. before ........... Edited 7 October, 2012 by david in sweden
adrian lord Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 Not seen anything to justify his price tag so far.
doggface Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 Did ok nothing more nothing less. Should have scored a prem goal by now and needs one bad. Don't bother playing him left tho.
saint1977 Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 I didn't think he was that bad overall but desperately short of confidence and needs one to go in off his shin or backside to get up and running. Didn't know Mayuka was still short of full fitness so explains the reluctance to play him but should be featuring at West Ham if fully fit. It's the money we paid for J Rod - I can see good potential there but we needed a 2nd CB or LB more urgently and we didn't need a world-beating one either, solid would have done.
Golden Balls Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 Did well today I thought. Should have scored though
S-Clarke Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 No worse than Lambert. He's got great movement, but his touch let him down on a couple of occasions today. He'll come good.
lordswoodsaints Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 Just not good enough at the moment and not sure we can afford the luxury of letting him gain enough experience to get him upto standard.....far too many championship standard players already in our squad I'm afraid.
Avenue Saint Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 No worse than Lambert. He's got great movement, but his touch let him down on a couple of occasions today. He'll come good. Hope so. Looks to be shot of confidence...
Saint Garrett Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 Thought he played pretty well today, needs a goal though
The Kraken Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 No worse than Lambert. He's got great movement, but his touch let him down on a couple of occasions today. He'll come good. Disagree. Lambert had a fairly off day but he at least created chances and looked like he could hold it up and cause problems. He was the only player we had who looked like he could hold his own against haangeland, who was immense against JRod and gave him absolutely nothing.
kpturner Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 Hope so. Looks to be shot of confidence...Nonsense
kpturner Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 out of his depth not ready for the prem! 7million phaw! Burnley laughing as Austin scoring for fun!Played pretty well today - certainly not out of his depth.
The Kraken Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 Played pretty well today - certainly not out of his depth. Did you really think so? I (and everyone I was with) thought he was poor.
Saint Garrett Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 Thought he played pretty well today, needs a goal though for his own good. Was one moment where he should have probably gone on his own and passed to Rickie.
Saint_Mabes Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 I thought he was poor and was gob smacked he played 90 mins. Well actually I thought he was ok first 20-30 mins but then poor. I was crying out for a straight swap for mayuka.
The Kraken Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 I thought he was poor and was gob smacked he played 90 mins. Well actually I thought he was ok first 20-30 mins but then poor. I was crying out for a straight swap for mayuka. Totally agree. That Mayuka didn't come on for Puncheon was quite odd. That he didn't come on for JRod was a poor decision IMO; even Guly for JRod would have made more sense than hauling Lambert off.
sfc4prem Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 He was pretty good today. One run and cut-back he did in the first half should've resulted in a Lambert goal but he somehow contrived to slot it past the post.
kpturner Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 Did you really think so? I (and everyone I was with) thought he was poor. Then you (and everyone you were with) are a fairly clueless bunch then aren't you
