Gemmel Posted 19 August, 2012 Share Posted 19 August, 2012 Been doing this for too long now, but one of my favorite away games ever. Something horribly English about celebrating defeat, but today, I am going to indulge. Mancinini tactically butt fooked by Adkins on national tv. Saints fans were pure quality and the lamberts goal was as mental a celebration as I can remember. Toe to toe with Champions and their arses were squeaking. Watching Kompany (one of the worlds best centre halfs) hoofing the ball into nowhere as Sharp came steaming in was quality. We are back, we mean business and enjoy. Barry the Badger Posted 20 August, 2012 Share Posted 20 August, 2012 My head hurts, not seen a bunch of fans look so proud and happy after a defeat. The lads erased any doubts that they can compete at this level. We were about four rows from the front, when Lambo scored the place erupted and I emerged from the carnage to realise Ricky was celebrating right in front of us! Quality. ladysaint Posted 20 August, 2012 Share Posted 20 August, 2012 After travelling away for over 40 years I also agree this was one of the best days out ever, cant talk today but who cares. The lads gave it everything and I am not one of Guly's greatest fans but credit where credit is due he did well. My MOM was Clyne what an amazing buy but everyone of them did us proud. Saints fans are the best and when City fans said to us after the game not many teams or fans come here and do what you did it means a lot. Cant wait for Saturday now. Papa Shango Posted 20 August, 2012 Share Posted 20 August, 2012 Proud of all the lads, great showing. Was expecting a hammering after the 1st went in. Never fully allowed myself to believe we would win, even when it went 2-1, so I wasn't really that gutted when they went ahead again. Still, the celebrations were class. Loved doing the Poznan right next to the gobby City fans after both goals.
The Cat Posted 20 August, 2012 Share Posted 20 August, 2012 It was bedlam celebrating the second goal. I'm not sure I could have coped with a third if we'd scored again! Echoing the above, it's now one of my favourite away games ever. The team, to a man, were magnificent and so were our fans. Oh, and considering the media are currently comparing football to the Olympics I'll add this to the discussion: the pure adrenalin rush and release of joy when we scored yesterday, well you just don't get that at the Olympics. You can keep your 3 gold medals in 45 minutes or whatever it was, I'll take dancing down the steps and leaping around by the advertising hoardings of the away end after going 2-1 up at the Etihad anyday. The9 Posted 20 August, 2012 Share Posted 20 August, 2012 I enjoyed the second goal, had some rows of empty seats ahead of us second half and I just staggered and stumbled and fell and leaned and plummeted over a couple of rows of them. Absolutely brilliant. Then tried to get a chorus of "we're not really here" started for the lolz.
View From The Top Posted 20 August, 2012 Share Posted 20 August, 2012 The goal celebrations were mental & it was worth the outrageous cost of the tickets to go nuts like that. Nipper has cracking seat scuffs on both shin & calf!
This Charming Man Posted 20 August, 2012 Share Posted 20 August, 2012 I rolled back in at midnight last night and first thing I did was watch our goals over and over again for about 20mins. Was strange leaving a game buzzing like that and having lost! Was worth the travel and the cost just for our 2 goal celebrations - pure mayhem. Absolutely brilliant. Then tried to get a chorus of "we're not really here" started for the lolz. Lucky you weren't at the front of the upper tier then!! We were in row B and I thought the guys in the front row were going to throw themselves over after the second goal! brilliant day out - talked to loads of city fans on walk back to station and waiting for the train and to be fair they were all really surprised with how well we played. What a stadium - this is what being Premier League is all about. Really loved our two years in L1 with trips to Rochdale, Hartlepool etc - but you can't beat going to the top grounds. To be honest I went into yesterdays game dreading the worst, but came out really so proud to be a saints fan. I wouldn't criticise any of our players. When the team sheets came out there were a lot of perplexed faces around that Lambert wasn't starting - mine included - I thought it looked like being an ultra cautious line up from Adkins - but I think he got it spot on. And unlike the other thread about Rodrigues, I was really impressed with him I thought he looked really useful - excellent first touch and made some good passes and lay offs. It was clear that he was meant to play deep - we had 10 men being the ball most of the time. First time I've seen Davies too - ho looked more than useful when he came on and took his goal so cooly. We went to the Museum of Football before the game - as did quite a few Saints fans - I thought it was rally excellent - especially as it's free. Much more positive about the existing squad on that performance, sensible use of Lambert too. I'm saving the Museum of Football for Man U in late January. I thought Rodriguez tracked back and worked hard to do the necessary, Lallana too, it wasn't a game for being showbiz, it was one for organisation and defensive structure, was great to see everyone (and I do mean everyone, Guly baiters) playing their part. We were in Row C in the first half right near Gemmel, and the back of the lower tier next to the home fans in the second half. A mong in front of us got chucked out for arguing about standing and throwing a punch at a steward at 1-0. What a tit. Would have thought those of us there would have mostly been keen to make some noise but seemed that the majority were happy to remain pretty quiet. I can't speak for the upper tier, but the lower tier was bloody brilliant, with pretty much everyone singing. Shame about the empty seats, but I think we more than made up for it with noise. The fact that having just watched the highlights on TV, you can hear less than 2,000 Saints fans outsinging 45,000 City fans who have just been crowned Champions says something. First time in a long time I've woken up with sore hands and a saw throat after football. The goal celebrations were great. And the penalty save was a good warm up too... ladysaint Posted 20 August, 2012 Share Posted 20 August, 2012 I thought we made a lot of noise in the lower stand though there were big gaps in the middle section. Really really get peed off with all the Pompey songs though, and that was also evident with all the fans around us, cant we just forget about them and come out with something more original. We were in the lower tier towards the corner and a few rows from the front and it seemed really hard work to get any songs going. I don't think "pretty much everyone singing" was the case for much of the game at all. A lot more people joined in when we were 2-1 up etc, but as far as away sing songs go it wasn't up there with the best and I thought it would have been tbh. I just thought there would be more chants when it felt like everybody was singing as opposed to just a few groups singing. The upper tier was laughable. They were all sat down and didn't seem to get involved at all until we were 2-1 up.

Bensfcno1 Posted 20 August, 2012 Share Posted 20 August, 2012 I was in lower tier, my mates were in upper tier. It was hard with only half seats sold in the lower tier and the stadium generally isn't good for atmosphere as it I made for athletics and sound from top tier just disappears and doesn't travel to the lower. On MOTD2 it looked amazing in the stands when we scored!

dannysfc Posted 20 August, 2012 Share Posted 20 August, 2012 Am back home now as I got back at 4 this afternoon as I stayed at my brothers flat in London as it all started by getting the train up to London to meet my brother at Euston to get the train to Manchester on Virgin trains which was nice as I ended up meeting another Saints fan at Euston who was also going to the game who came over from Australia so me and my brother sat with him and a Man City fan who was one of the nicest City fans who I have met and that was then followed by a drink at one of the pubs before making our way to the ground and what a game that was as yes even though we lost I still enjoyed it and was so funny doing the Poznan when we scored both goals which were sublime and like I stated in my earlier topic it felt like a draw come FT seeing as we came so close But will take that seeing as we are Not bottom which is Good so all in all was a Top day!!! Roll on Wigan next!!! COYR!!!

Really really get peed off with all the Pompey songs though, and that was also evident with all the fans around us, cant we just forget about them and come out with something more original. We were in the main stand, doing corporate, so had a good view of the away end. There was a horrible band of empty seats separating the front and rear rows of the lower tier in the first half, but in the second half it wasn't as bad as people from the back seemed to fill in the empties and it didn't look so bad. It must surely have been our ticket office that was responsible for selling the seats in that order. Our seats were quality, by the way:
SparkySaint Posted 20 August, 2012 Share Posted 20 August, 2012 Best away game i've ever been to. It was good while it lasted and we certainly gave them a game. At half time I just wanted us to draw the second half and thats exactly what we did. Much to be excited about. What a team we have now and dangerous all over the pitch. The9 Posted 21 August, 2012 Share Posted 21 August, 2012 Essruu, apart from the fact you can see the players shaking hands on the big screen, you can tell that pic was taken in the first half because there's no one remotely near the segregation. We were near the back right next to the band of stewards second half and there was a block of about 10 rows empty by 10 seats wide slap bang in front of me. Of course we were enjoying ourselves rubbing it in at 2-1 by trying to act as disbelieving as possible next to the City fans. Was bloody funny doing fake "OMFG" faces. The9 Posted 21 August, 2012 Share Posted 21 August, 2012 Any videos from those that were there...especially a celebration one The missus has a few, including our second goal in full from the half way line (though only about a second of celebration). She also has the 1-2 with Lescott for the first Saints goal, with a gap of about 4 seconds between that and the following video and then a mental jumping around video rotated through about 360 degrees which ends up completely black but with sound for the last 10 seconds. Gutted she missed the actual goal because as Lambert hit it a mate of ours said "we haven't had a shot on target yet".

shurlock Posted 21 August, 2012 Share Posted 21 August, 2012 Had reservations about the bottom-tier -£50 to see f**k all, esp as there's usually quite a price difference between the bottom and top tiers at the Etihad - it was only a couple quid on Sunday. In effect, you were overpaying to go in the bottom tier. Fortunately we didn't fill it, so was able to go stand near the disabled section where things were better. Otherwise, given the choice between standing and getting a better view, its a no brainer. The latter everytime.
