England Stars

Ward-Prowse needs to get into the under-21s before he can be considered for the full squad. As good a prospect as he is, we looked better with Davis on the pitch.

Clyne perhaps has the best chance; young, quick, and England are not exactly over-run with quality right-backs who can actually defend as well as get forward well.

Lallana is miles away from the national side.

Don't see how even his biggest critic could say this. Hugely talented player who can play in a number of positions and has the composure and technique so many lack. He'll get his chance.

I disagree. I think he is nowhere near the best England has in midfield and hasn't proven himself at the highest level yet.

I'm not a critic of him at all. I just don't think he'll make the step up to international level, its a huge leap. I'm confident he'll do well at Premier League level (though I don't think he'll score anywhere near as many goals as he did in the lower leagues), but I don't see an England role for him.

He didn't have his best game today, but any English keeper playing week in week out in the PL stands a fair chance of making an England squad, though it won't be as first choice.

I assume you mean Kelvin? In which case I'd say no chance at all. Joe Hart is a very young and very well established number 1 keeper. Jack Butland seems to be being fast tracked. Rob Green is playing top flight football again, but I see that the ngland squad are looking for younger players, hence the call up of John Ruddy. Allied to the fact that Kelvin just isn't anywhere good enough at international level, I'd simply be astonished if he got anywhere near the squad.

Clyne has a chance with a good run of form and I'm sure one day he'll get a few caps. Lallana only needs to score a couple of goals and get some assists at this level to get into the England setup. Look at the players who have played in his position for England in the last couple of years Downing, Jarvis etc.

..even as an ardent 50 year fan, I'd agree entirely. Good loyal, club man YES. Nice Guy YES but England keeper .?????

He seemed the most nervous yesterday, but the penalty save (even if it was a bit soft) would have helped his confidence, and he may be "back to normal "soon , but we need another class keeper as cover / back-up / challenger (call it what you will). Gazza...is a good prospect, but I dread to think what might have happened if KD had been unavailable.

Clyne did well - didn't he ? some people made him Saints best player. Lallana will look better when played in his natural position on the left.

If Saints can maintain a good mid-table spot, I can see Roy Hodgson becoming a regular visitor to Saints' games. He is new as manager and obviously has to experiment with new faces before the next World Cup.

England is going through a generation change. Gerrard, Terry, Lampard have all been good international servants, but their time is running out and their are no obvious successors, and their present " shadows " don't impress in internationals, regardless of what they do in their club sides.

We can't forget that Jack Cork may well get a look-in too, when he re-establishes himself in the side. It maybe a few years away, but Ward-Prowse showed good composure v. MC and will surely feature in future U21 games, before developing into someone capable of gaining a full cap. The real excitement will be in Luke Shaw's first few games...we shall see.
