melmacian_saint Posted 19 August, 2012 Posted 19 August, 2012 So after an afternoon where I think most of us will be proud of the way we shook the Plastic King of the Prom (because using Yank stereotypes is sooo awesome), right now I can't help but worrying about the Wigan game. The main reasons are as follows: 1.Wigan represents 75%, if not more, of what we can expect from our survival challengers. 2. They will put on a much more focused performance that what Man City did at times during the game. 3. They will play more direct football and also try to close our players out faster; 4. They've got the experience of this battle well into the mentality of the players, hence now how to deal with the situation better on paper; 5. We saw some naive mistakes which will gain dimension in those games, as potential result-defining moments; 6. Given Man City's potential there was more to be motivated about than real pressure for the squad. Want to think they'll deliver and Adkins will keep any possible overheating out of the changing room, but for many of these players being under pressure to achieve a result in the Prem is a new thing; So really, while today showed us how we want to play, Wigan's game will possibly show more about where we are actually going this season. But who knows really? Still I'm optimistic and believe we will cope with that challenge as well as we did with today, and with a good result in the end.
S-Clarke Posted 19 August, 2012 Posted 19 August, 2012 Wigan will likely be without Maloney and Moses (who is set to Join chelski this week). They're not a direct side, never have been. They're neat and tidy through the middle, they have some good Cm's there, but are incredibly blunt up front - and will be even more so without those 2 above. I think Ramis got a rude awakening today...but he's not a bad CB by any means. I think, and hope, we play with the same intensity as we did for periods in the 2nd half today, if we do that I don't think Wigan will contain us for 90mins. That's my honest opinion.
Thedelldays Posted 19 August, 2012 Posted 19 August, 2012 Got 0-1 Wigan written all over it! haha..yeah so many are expecting us to beat them.....we really need to
hypochondriac Posted 19 August, 2012 Posted 19 August, 2012 haha..yeah so many are expecting us to beat them.....we really need to Knowing saints we will get humped then beat United...
Didcot Saint Posted 19 August, 2012 Posted 19 August, 2012 We will win comfortably. Alot of lower to mid table PL sides are very overrated.
Saint Charlie Posted 19 August, 2012 Posted 19 August, 2012 Apparently Moses not now going to Chelsea according to Martinez they have dropped their interest. He will be a big threat. Maloney being kept out would be good for us.
david in sweden Posted 20 August, 2012 Posted 20 August, 2012 This will be one of the seasons big games for Nigel Adkins. Despite the fact that it's long ago, it was his last club (as a player) and he'll relish a victory against them.
sussexsaint Posted 29 August, 2012 Posted 29 August, 2012 Knowing saints we will get humped then beat United... !
