rhsfc Posted 19 August, 2012 Share Posted 19 August, 2012 I was surprised to see who was on our bench today! besides the obvious, Lambert (which I was shocked at, but as ever 'In Nigel we trust') But how did Seabourne get himself a spot, and to a certain extent both Shaw AND Richardson get places? Where was Chaplow, Hammond, Lee (ok, maybe not match fit), De Ridder? Am I just being an idiot and they are all just carrying knocks? Enlighten me someone.... Saint Charlie Posted 19 August, 2012 Share Posted 19 August, 2012 Shaw covers whole of left side. Seaborne clearly to cover Jose and Jos. Hammond not good enough and we had Davis to cover CM.
VectisSaint Posted 19 August, 2012 Share Posted 19 August, 2012 But how did Seabourne get himself a spot, and to a certain extent both Shaw AND Richardson get places? Who did you expect to be on the bench as defensive cover? Apart from Stephens there were not too many options. BTW it Seaborne. Thought he had been a Saints player long enough now that people could spell his name.
Matthew Le God Posted 19 August, 2012 Share Posted 19 August, 2012 But how did Seabourne get himself a spot He is our 3rd choice centre back. Had Fonte or Hooiveld been injured who would you have put at centre back? and to a certain extent both Shaw AND Richardson get places? We were always going to play relatively defensively today. If Fox or Clyne were injured the defence would have been a mess if we didn't have Richardson or Shaw on the bench, they are the second choice fullbacks. Where was Chaplow, Hammond Hammond and Chaplow are 6th and 7th choice for central midfield. They are squad players this season and won't make the matchday 18 very often unless an injury crisis. Lee (ok, maybe not match fit) Answered your own question. De Ridder He is low on the pecking order. Guly Do Prado, Jay Rodriguez and Jason Puncheon ahead of him for wide positions. With the three of them playing it allowed for Lambert and Sharp as strikers to be on the bench. We are even looking to bring in one or two new wide players which will put De Ridder even further down the list.
david in sweden Posted 20 August, 2012 Share Posted 20 August, 2012 (edited) I was surprised to see who was on our bench today! besides the obvious, Lambert (which I was shocked at, but as ever 'In Nigel we trust') But how did Seabourne get himself a spot, and to a certain extent both Shaw AND Richardson get places? Where was Chaplow, Hammond, Lee (ok, maybe not match fit), De Ridder? Am I just being an idiot and they are all just carrying knocks? Enlighten me someone.... Regardless of Dan Seaborne's future status, he was the only other established CB in the club....and Luke Shaw is the (at present) the only player able to be considered aa LB. (Harding has gone and Dickson exiled). Clyne is a headline signing and what better place to show your paces (didn't he do well?). We will certainly see Richardson again - at some later date. I don't think this was Lee's type of game. He's an attacking winger and we played with a packed midfield v.MC. He will become a fan favourite at SMS if he can score more like his goal v. Derby. BUT I also noted the absence of the other you mentioned; Chaplow. Hammond and De Ridder. My own take on this is ; Chaplow, sadly...has not looked like regaining the fantastic form he showed last Autumn when he got a regular spot and his injury set him back a lot. Hammond : goes back to our first L1 season. A good captain then, he is a bit too close to 30 to re-establish himself against other contenders, but i expect to see him play out his contract. De Ridder, seemed to be a permanent bench contender last season (29 times ) may never become more than that, if he stays we may well see him back as an impact player in the last half of games. Golden Balls Posted 20 August, 2012 Share Posted 20 August, 2012 I'd be very surprised if De Ridder plays much this season. Really don't rate him
Bucks Saint Posted 20 August, 2012 Share Posted 20 August, 2012 I'd be very surprised if De Ridder plays much this season. Really don't rate him I would be surprised to see him on the bench very much this season, much less play. If we land the couple more players we are chasing, it would take one hell of an injury crisis for De Ridder, or Hammond, to be a sub.

If we sign a couple more players then maybe we'll send them out on short term loans.
rhsfc Posted 21 August, 2012 Author Share Posted 21 August, 2012 I see, thanks to those who answered my questions in a nice manner! Didn't realise select people on here have to be so patronising when answering, won't be starting another thread...
The Kraken Posted 21 August, 2012 Share Posted 21 August, 2012 Didn't see much patronising from folk, to be fair. You asked a question, slightly controversially (and without any substance of the bench you would have put out) and got it answered fairly.
