Guly was excellent today but the haters will never change their tune because that would be admitting they are wrong.

I wouldn't say he was excellent. He put in a great shift and worked really hard for the team; but he never really looked a threat in front of goal. When Rickie came on he looked much more the genuine article up front, his link up play and deft touches really are quite sublime and he made and took his chance absolutely brilliantly. I also thought Guly and teh team in general were better when Rickie came on and he moved away from the main striking role.

The formation in general worked well, but in future I think I'd prefer to see Rickie in the striker's role and Guly in midfield. I thought JRod looked lost out on the left and didn't get in the game at all.

Ottery

Give me time. I have already spent my entire morning watching the game. I appreciate your efforts with min/sec and will get back to the thread when the replay hits the TV this evening.

Get lots of pizza and beer in....Lots more to come....will take several hours of your time:rolleyes:

Or you could trust me when I say like the rest he did a good job for his Manager, the team and the supporters..:)

I am not a fan of Guly and was surprised as anyone....Good squad player and on his day a good team player...

May struggle to get in the starting eleven when Ramirez , Phillips etc join a fit Davis , Lallana , Morgan and a rapidly rising star in JWP...

Today...Guly did alright as did the whole side....:)

Ignore the times I posted above......just joshing with you toe_punt...:p

Guly had a ****ing good game today.

He appears a little lazy because of his naturally languid, leggy stride.

Lambert wouldn't have done anything more in the first half than Guly. We simply couldn't see enough of the ball to do anything.

Bringing Lambert on as an impact sub worked brilliantly; City were taken by surprise and couldn't adjust to him quick enough.

Lambert being on the bench will be the exception rather than the norm of course. Clever little tactics by Adkins which did pay off.

IMHO you're as ignorant as he is for carrying on with the ridiculous racism accusations.

When a player does as well as Guly did today, and almost everyone recognises it (including people who are not his biggest fans), and then someone comes on and says we were playing with 10 men with Guly in the team, you have to admit that either that person is a blind idiot, or has some other kind of agenda. And for me, it is difficult to believe someone could be so idiotic, so the possibility of some other agenda comes into play.

You are either naive or ignorant if you think that racism isn't something to do with some fans' negative views of Guly. Or xenophobia at the very least.

Carry on with that nonsense if you wish. Guly is the type of player that will divide opinion. Calling people a racist just because they don't ascribe to your view of him is childish and silly.

How did Clyne get on today? I suppose all the racists are out in force saying how poor he was.

Out of interest how many of the people commenting on here were actually at the game I had the unfortunate pleasure of sitting in the gods with city supporters. Yes he ran round a lot and put a good shift in but for premier league standards that doesnt mean he had a good game he was actually woeful at holding the ball up - Your having a laugh if he scared lescott and kompany - lambert transformed our attacking effectiveness holding the ball up and creating chances - he was 100% more effective than guly and no Im not a guly hater

Guly was great today. Worried the defence with his movement when up top, made some sizzling runs down the flanks when he switched out wide and held the ball well in midfield. People often criticise him for his lack of effort, but I thought he really bust a gut for this team today.

Lambert was more effective as a striker, sure, but Guly was a key man for us today. Thought Puncheon was a bit rubbish, didn't keep the ball well, outmuscled too easily on a number of occasions when holding the ball up and left way too much space out wide for City to attack in, especially in the second half.

Don't want to be overly negative on players though as they gave a great team performance - very proud to be a Saints fan tonight.

Have to say i agree with Miltonroader07 how does he start ahead of Sharp and Lambo who last season towards the end were better players, however he had a good 1st half but 2nd half specially last 20 him and JP were awful, we needed work rate once we went 2-1 up guly is a luxury player we cant afford to have vs top 7/8 teams, if we sign GR whos gonna be droped for him ? for me it will have to be Guly.

The OP has clearly gone well OTT with this "ten men" nonsense, but those who habitually rush to Guly's defence every time someone dares criticize him seem equally in error. To describe yesterdays workmanlike performance as "Brilliant" or "Great" is a gross exaggeration of the truth that verges of the ridiculous. Having watched the game carefully I saw precious little evidence of brilliance or greatness from this player, only a honest footballer putting in a decent enough shift.

One suspects that in their heart of hearts many members of the Guly Defence League do actualy know that this player isn't really good enough to make very much of a impact on the Premier League and that we (urgently) need to sign someone better. I don't however expect many of them to admit this.

I wasn't there but it was clear from watching on tv that the runs Guly was making were making space for others by pulling people out of position. By the time Lambert came on, the defence had been given the runaround and were tired thanks to the work of Jrod, Puncheon & Guly. I'm not a fan of Gary Neville but if an ex-England international defender who has got a shed load of medals and is also at the game takes the time to point out the intelligence of Guly's running, then I'm more inclined to take his word for it.

You missed something today for sure. Worked his socks off today, Gary Neville said on Sky that he was making intellignet runs in behind their centre backs but wasn't being picked out by our players.

If you must have a go at him at least pick a game where he is poor, not today !

This. He is poor often but was OK today. That's the problem though. He'll probably be gash against Wigan.
