Glasgow_Saint Posted 19 August, 2012 Posted 19 August, 2012 Id start Gazzaniga in the next one......davis was the weak link today

The Kraken Posted 19 August, 2012 Posted 19 August, 2012 Davis - 4; very shaky, distribution very hit and miss. Clyne - 8; rarely beaten and got forward well, worked well with Puncheon. Fox - 4; gave the goal away, although didn't get a huge amount of support from Rodriguez. Distribution not brilliant and didn't get forward as much as would have liked. Fonte - 7; did what he had to, strong in the air and well composed. Hooiveld - 5; poor penalty to give away and I didn't feel confident with him at all. Schneiderlin - 5; kept it simple but needs to keep posession much better, was brushed off the ball at least 2 or 3 times. JWP - 7; really promising performance, a few rushed moments but otherwise he was always looking to play and support the attack. Good range of passing. Lallana - 6; often seemed to lose control of the football at the vital moment. Playing in the centre will suit him but his touch looked off on occasions. Puncheon - 6; put in a good shift but rarely offered a threat going forward. Too predictable with cutting in, would have liked to have seen him attack the full back more. Rodriguez - 5; never really got in the game at all and looks well out of position at left wing. Didn't do much going forward, didn't help out Fox as much as he could. Guly - 6; put in a decent shift but never really looked like he was going to threaten. Subs: Lambert - 8; what an impact. Such a classy player with his touch and deft flicks. Great finish for the goal. Davis - 8; looks like a classy player, when he's fit he'll give us a lot at CM. I wonder if JWP or Schneiderlin will make way for him, on this showing its up for grabs. Sharp - 5; not long enough to make an impact.
Colinjb Posted 19 August, 2012 Posted 19 August, 2012 Everyone 8s except Puncheon - 4 Really? He had a great game for me, showed a little of his usual tendancy to lack end product but worked tirelessly.
sammysaint Posted 19 August, 2012 Posted 19 August, 2012 Am i only one who thinks guly was crap and puncheon was better out of the 2, not that it was hard. Deffo need a CB and hopefully a Winger better then guly and puncheon and were be fine.

Deffo need a CB and hopefully a Winger better then guly and puncheon and were be fine. The thing is people forget that players like Guly are given a specific job to do by the manager which is not necessarily what they do best, and for 45 mins he did a good job. Early 2nd half he started to look frustrated as nothing came his way, but when SRL came on he perked up and showed more appetite wide rather than a forlorn figure in the middle. He will be a key member of the team - get off his back.
Crab Lungs Posted 19 August, 2012 Posted 19 August, 2012 Hart 7, Zabaleta 8, Kompany 6, Lescott 6, Clichy 7, Y Toure 7, Rodwell 5, Silva 6 (Balotelli 6), Nasri 8 Aguero 6 (Dzeko 7), Tevez 7 (Kolarov 6), Webb 9*.
david in sweden Posted 19 August, 2012 Posted 19 August, 2012 JayRod played a wide one man up (against their defence and an England CH). and Guly had a specific job to do. I wouldn't like to (mis)judge them on this performance against this opposition. Rickie must be well-pleased....scoring against Hart ! ........and Steve Davis scoerd even quicker when coming on. However, it did highlight our ongoing problems at the back. We MUST have a regular no.2 goalie to challenge / stand-in for KD, and don't say Gazza everyone. The CB problem was painfully obvious today. Jos' tackle for the penalty was clumsy but Tevez made the most of it, and the guy was marginally offside when he raced past Fonte and scored.

What are you basing this on?
Bearsy Posted 19 August, 2012 Posted 19 August, 2012 KD did hoof it out of play a few times which is a bit of a ball-ache when you're struggling to get the ball back. Ain't distribution sposed to be G-Niggas strong suit?
eurosaint Posted 19 August, 2012 Posted 19 August, 2012 To be fair to Kelvin he did save a penalty and I reckon that although he may have been at fault for the Tevez goal (near post!) but he was blameless for the other 2 !
saintchris23 Posted 19 August, 2012 Posted 19 August, 2012 Am i only one who thinks guly was crap and puncheon was better out of the 2, not that it was hard. - What a lot of rubbish. Guly played well today, working hard to close the ball down and played up front on his own, trying to hold the ball up as much as possible. Sure he gave the ball away a couple of times, but who wouldn't under such pressure from the league champions?! I'm a fan of Puncheon but today he showed absolutely zero intent to take his oppo on and frustrated us all that were at the game. Fox - 4; gave the goal away, although didn't get a huge amount of support from Rodriguez. Distribution not brilliant and didn't get forward as much as would have liked. Didn't get a huge amount of support from JROD? Were you even at the game?! JRod worked his socks off to cover the defensive positions and on at least three occasions he was the last defensive player down that side. Fox was just poor at getting forward today but maybe that was the order from Adkins? Who knows.
Alain Perrin Posted 19 August, 2012 Posted 19 August, 2012 Jesus wept. Saves a penalty and you give him a four. Guly haters need to to go to Specsavers. The team played well against the best team in the Premiership last year - and certainly the most expensive. Today gave me some faith. We showed we can mix it with the big boys and should take heart from that.
toe_punt Posted 19 August, 2012 Posted 19 August, 2012 It's hard to give points, but: excellent: Clyne,Lambert,J-Rod Good: S.Davis,Punch,Jos, Fonte(surprisingly) Average: JWP,Lallana,Kelv, Schneiderlein Poor: Guly, No rating:Sharp (due to 5 mins only)
yorkiesaint Posted 19 August, 2012 Posted 19 August, 2012 I would say: Davis 4: some good moments, some bad. Should have closed down Tevez for the 1st goal. Clyne 7: promising debut, did really well, mistake led to city's 2nd. Fonte 7: great in the air Hooiveld 6: will improve Fox 6: not helped by Rodriguez. Mistake led to third goal Ward-Prowse 7: great game for the 17 year old. Saints improved when he went off though Lallana 7: solid good passing Puncheon: 7 did his job well, a threat when he had the ball near the box Guly 8: showed his versatility, great performance for the team Rodriguez 5: not his fault, Adkins takes responsibility Schneiderlin 7: defended well Lambert 9: changed the game. Presumably not fit enough for 90 mins S Davis: 8: improvement on JWP Sharp not enough time, but the right move to put him on. Adkins 8: starting line up a compromise, planned a strong finish and got one. Need Ramirez on the left!
AussieDog Posted 19 August, 2012 Posted 19 August, 2012 Davis 6 - he did save a penalty! -but he shouldn't have been beaten on his near post (and Tevez was offside!) Clyne 8 - thought he looked excellent and would have been by MOM if he hadn't rushed off his line so quickly, and ignoring the guy to his right for the 2nd goal Fonte 7 - would have been a 10 if he'd converted that knockdown for SRL! Very pleasantly surprised today by his showing Hooiveld 7 - unlucky with the penalty (but it WAS a penalty) Fox 5 - failed to give much going forward and poor attempted clearance for their 3rd Ward-Prowse 7 First half good but ran out of steam 2nd half Lallana 6.5 Probably a touch low on the mark, but I was hoping for more. Puncheon 7 I hate the guy - but I thought he did OK Guly 7 No real penetration going forward but thought he found space well and linked up well with the players around him Rodriguez 6 Tough 1st game and I can't remember him getting a shot in, but didn't look out of place Schneiderlin 6.5 Lost the ball a little too easily a few times but didn't look out of place. Lambert 8.5 Great start, great goal, great lay-off to Fonte - if only it had fallen to Billy Sharp! S.Davis 8 Great goal. seemed very assured. Taking into account the quality of the opposition (and the history books) I thought it was a pretty good showing. I was hoping for a draw but expecting a 2-0 loss, so all in all, not too dispirited.
Foxstone Posted 20 August, 2012 Posted 20 August, 2012 Clyne MOTM for me but Jose not far behind him...
