Man City v Saints - Full time chat

Great performance by the lads and shows a few of our resident mongs who keep banging on about it being boring in the pl are talking ****e as normal.

If we play like that every week we will be alright. They had an offside goal and we should of had a defo penalty. The ref was **** today I felt. Every 50-50 decision went their way and too many legal jostles were given as free kicks to them. If it was the other way around sure Mancini would of said it was a poor display by the officials.

My only concerns were Guly and Kelvin. Kelvin had a poor game other then the penalty save. Too many punts out of play and flaps at the ball which on another day would of been punished for. He could of come for the cross that fox headed as was in the 6 yard box.

Needs to show a bit more confidence in the area. In the PL you make mistakes you get punished.

Guly to his credit ran around pretty much non stop. He put in a huge effort and should be praised for that. But he isn't a Drogba style player, he can't get high balls and keep it down then bring others into the game. Until Lambert came on I don't think we looked as though we would score. So not really a dig at Guly more of a dig at where he was asked to play. Hopefully it shows Adkins that a bit more positivity will mean we can get goals in this league. Citeh only had 12 goals against them at home all last year.

I think if anything this shows to the chairman that with a few additions we could be a decent side. Add Phillips and Ramirez then a CB and a few cover positions and we should stay up more comfortably. I hope we get those guys in as it will help us to keep the ball a bit better imo.

Absolutely brilliant, really proud of our team. First game back in the prem against the champions and we gave them a real fight. Ward-Prowse looks like a prospect and impressed with Clyne. Davis looked impressive and Lambo can do it in the top flight.

A couple more signings (fingers crossed for Ramirez) and we will give anyone a run for their money!

Happy day even though we lost!

I am also very proud of our performance, albeit that we did lose the game. City should have been well clear before our equaliser. But i am choosing to focus on the positives, of which there were many. A word for Fonte, who i thought was excellent today. Sure, he made a couple of mistakes, but he was playing against one of the most expensive attacking forces ever assembled in football. In this context, i thought he was fantastic.

Well done saints...but let's not be too content with a credible defeat. Bring on Wigan.

We made them look good today, our defence was all over the place.

Thought their fans were ****s the way they reacted to Segio's injury, cheering when it happened/booing when he was stretchered off.

And the "where were you when you were ****" garbage

Why do these medium sized, mid table teams sing ****e like that?

Cheers.

Pleased with that (if you can be pleased with a loss). Thought we rode our luck at times but didn't look to bad in fact I think we gave them a bit of a scare. JWP will be a name to watch methinks. Thought Fonte looked the best of the CB's but Jos wasn't that far behind (penalty aside). Kelvin worries me a bit at times. Jay Rod huffed and puffed a bit. AL looked a bit rusty but only a little. SRL quality as always. Support sounded good and NA comes through his first prem game with a few plaudits and rightly so. Bring on Wigan.

Ok, who else has re-wound their Sky+ recording to watch the goals, again....and again? I didn't think I'd be doing that today if I'm honest.

Lamberts finish is just stunning, the mark of a natural goal scorer at any level. The 2nd goal was brilliant to, such clever movement and pass selection. That wasn't luck.

Because while he was far from perfect, Punch gave him alot more cover.

Sorry, just don't accept this argument. Fox's biggest calamity resulted in their winner, it had nothing to do with midfielders providing cover, it was just **** poor positioning and decision making. Fox was caught out before hand so many times, you cannot always blame that on the wide player in front of him. Sorry, but I thought it last year and I am not convinced that Fox is good enough. It seems like I am not the only one either, since we are clearly planning for a new first choice LB.

Some of them however seem to forget they spent most of the last 30 years WAY behind us (glory-hunting however stops them from knowing anything about their club's past, let alone that of other clubs) and certainly a world away from their current challengers.

I am always amazed when anyone can write a player off when they have spent the best part of 80 mins defending against, Silva, Tevez, Aguero, Nasri, Toure, Balotelli...and did so very well in large parts and were dead on their feet.....just stunned how people can say.."he screwed up against nasri, so he is shyt"

fox, like all the players, put in a monumentous shift today and I think deserves to be judged after a few games rather than being written off against (and this is from adkins) the best forward line these players have collectively faced in their lives to date

This is how I expected to set up and play from all the previous talk from Adkins, exactly what was required against City and so nearly worked. So proud of the players and the performance but in reality. still not sure how many points we will have on the board after 6 games? It's how we play against the lesser to mid teams that will decide our fate. We rode our luck at times, defended well and lulled City into a false sense of security, but I always thought they would get at least a point from the game.

The crunch will come against someone like Wigan at home where we don't lap up all the pressure in the first half and expose the defence to get forward instead. Clyne looks a bargain already with others able to do a job in the Premier, but I am wary this will work with a committed attacking style in the Premier.

Too many balls in defence were recycled into our danger area, Kelvin and Fox the biggest culprits with others adding cameo roles. Get the ball out of danger even if that means giving away a corner.

I'VE BEEN SAYING THIS SINCE THE FIXTURE LIST CAME OUT.

Sorry didn't mean to shout Caps button stuck!!

Everybody realistically mentally pictured defeats against MC, MU and Arse so a plucky defeat becomes acceptable - Wigan is to me more of a key game, a) 6 pointer against a potential bottom / mid table club - anything but a win suddenly becomes a total disaster and prof we are going down!!

PRESSURE GAME or what?

It'll be back to 442 next week, but the 4231 will reappear every now and then, I'm sure

Hope not but im sure we'll keep this type of formation for all of the season since we've been practising it alot and we have a good midfield with 3 in the centre just need to stop playing Rod out on the left he's wasted there, Ramirez would fit in there nicely or Philips but i cant wait til Lee is back, imagine Ramirez and Lee working together.....wow

Just back from the game, that was a very promising performance way beyond expectation. Play like that every week we will be ok. Yes we were pushed back at times but only to be expected, but we attacked in force, alwayys looked to play the right way & came up with two great strikes. I thought Clyne was outstanding today, Gully ran his socks off and never let the city back line have it easy. I was concerned that Fonte & Jos may be ripped apart today but Fonte looked like the player we all know he can be today, put in one outstanding tackle in the first half when it looked like they had broken through.

Can Lambert do it at this level, bet your ass he can what a great strike. don't know how I kept quite sat in the main stand.

The midfield held their own against a very good city side. All in all a good first outing & will boost their confidence that they can compete at this level.

Steven Davis is going to be magnificent for us, hopefully he's the midfielder who can get 8-10goals a season that we have been missing, but then again Deano got my hopes up first game last season. Delighted for Adz to get the armband too, absolute legend.

Rickie's had a lot of moments with us, that was one of his best. Was it his first touch in the PL?

As he came on a skate friend of mine bet me 200 quid he wouldn't reach 10 goals this season. Then just as we shook on it Lambo had it in the back of the net :D

9 to go ;)

Don't get me wrong, I am made up about our performance as a team today, but...

It isn't just writing a player off after one game defending against some of the best attacking talent in the world. Fox was a liability at the back last season too. He is the weak link in the team for me, good delivery most of the time I agree, but that's it. Poor positioning, failed Hollywood balls and defensive errors... not just today, but in the league below against far worse players.

Watched it on sky and thought we were brilliant. When we went 2-1 up I didn't care what happened after that, I was just so happy and encouraged by the performance. Play like that against Wigan and we'll win.

Great to see Lambert get off the mark straight away and Steven Davis on his league debut.

Only concern for me is KD, I'm not convinced he is good enough at this level. I think we should see how he does until January and then buy a better keeper if necessary. His distribution and command of his area just aren't good enough and at this level it is just going to get found out. Still, he more than deserves a chance in the PL and barring a complete disaster I'm happy to back him as our number 1 for now.

completely missed todays game due to a prior committment, but would have been too nervous to tune-in anyway.

Seen the result

Seen the circumstances of the defeat.

Proud as f**k of my club, and very impressed at their performance and resillience. Keep this up and we should be comfortably safe.

Understand now why NA was looking at new LB options.

Great performance today and proud as **** to be a Saints fan. Love the fact that loads of people in the media/from other clubs were really impressed too.

Never thought I would be typing this today, but I am gutted that we didn't get anything out of the game.

Play like that and we will be fine this season! COYR!!
