Fox was just fooked like all the rest of them. Kelvin made more mistakes

Let's see how fox gets on next week before writing him off

Agreed - they crowded Fox's wing and it was difficult for him but he was better than he's being painted...Like all here - very proud, very hoarse and happier looking ahead!

Great performance but dissappointed we didn't go for City's throat when we were 2-1 up and looked like we could open them up with ease. A point dropped in the end.

Still, heads held high and a performance like that must surely give them the belief that they can mix it with the best.

Disagree, it's just a symptom of the way we play, our full backs will be a little exposed and he had very little support.

He did some excellent touches and contributed well today, all of our players can hold their heads high tonight.

If that's the case why was Clyne probably our best player. Sorry, fact is that Fox was shown to be very poor today, hence why we have been trying to sign a LB, and left the #3 shirt vacant. He is OK going forward but lightweight in defence. The only other areas where we were shown up today sadly was with good old Kelvin, for the most experienced player on the pitch his nervousness was infectious. We really need to put sentiment aside and sign a proper #1.

But well played to everyone, with Chun back and hopefully Ramirez and Phillips to come we look reasonably good, given we need a good CB as well. Fonte was good today, it was Jos who looked dodgy if anything.

Davis was a bit iffy when called upon, but we did protect him well. I thought on the whole Fonte and Jos did a very good job today, kept a good line and squeezed up well. Fonte was turned by Tevez for the opener, but it was marginal offside anyway - so I don't think either did too bad.

I thought Lallana was excellent too, not much talk about him. But he was always available for the ball and was always positive with it, he was involved in the buildup to both goals and is such a good link between the midfield and the attack. Playing him where we did gives him so much more time on the ball and that's only to our benifit.

I don't really need to say much more about Ward-Prowse. He's destined for the top of the game. End of.

I think our MOTM was Clyne though, I thought he was terrific. Defensively outstanding, composed when on the ball and an excellent attacking threat. We have some palyer there by the way, very excited.

That's what I love about this saints team, it's so young and it's got a chance to grow together over the years and we're linked with even more young players to add to it. I think the way we set out to play is exciting, brave and adverturous. It's a damn site better than sitting back and defending for your lives which a fair few teams would have done at City.

We were brave today both on the pitch and in the dugout and that bodes well for the season to come.

Brillaint performance, first game of the season and JUST losing to the best team in the country with a solid performance was fine for me.

I felt fox played ok but im sure he will work on problems in training. ward prowse looked abit panicky to me today but he played ok. Puncheon had his moments but he also had an OK game.

fair play to those big lads when we scored our 2nd goal on the tv, think Ive got the picture somewhere....

Once we sort out the flanks we will get better.

Got caught out a few times, JayRod made a few bad choices first half, and our midfeild needs to work out where to stand at corners ( Nasri andTroare for the last 2 )

Played very well though. If we can add the 2 wingers and some CB's we should do OK.

Yeah got to react quicker in the box. Looked like we were marking zonally too.

Davis: Looked nervous at times, made the odd decision and got beaten at his near post for the first. Penalty save was easy. 6

Clyne: Looked excellent, especially in the first half. Bombed forward and was quick to get back, The odd mistake though but a promising start. 8

Jose: Played quite well, wanted to get forward at the end, but it's simple to see he can be upgraded if the right player becomes avaiable. Will still do a job for us this season. 6

Jos: Fairly solid given the circumstances, not his best game ever. 6

Fox: A real liability. Worst performance on the pitch. With a youngster as the only cover, it seems we do need a new left back brought in. 4

Punch: Played well in the second half but was largely invisible in the first. A useful player to have if he's in the right frame of mind.7

Morgan: Far from his best game, will need to improve at this level. 6

JWP: For a 17 year old against the Champions, that was a very solid start. Passing was good, but had a tendancy to panic unnecessarily. 7

Adam: Set up the second cleverly. Good to see him as captain. Will do well in the Premier League.7

Guly: Very impressed. His decision making sometimes lacks a tad but he worked his socks off today IMO. 8

JRod: Not a great performance in a position he didn't look too comfortable in. I wonder whether Adkins will stick to this formation... 5

Subs: Lambert: What more can be said about this man. Premier League quality already! Should have started? 7

Davis: Lovely goal, which I'm sure wasn't the plan when Adkins brought him on! Looking forward to seeing more of him. 7

Sharp: A good decision to bring him on, but barring a few crosses did little. 6

Inclyned to agree with nearly all of this...

A bit harsh with Fox (as nearly everyone seems to be) I think he will prove to be a good squad member throughout the season. I'd give him a 5...

Fox was ok for the start of the match when JRod and Lallana were covering more, but City definitely exploited the right side. Felt JRod had been given the covering job specifically, not his normal position I would hope. Can see him doing well, had some nice touches.

Didn't know Puncheon was on the pitch first half but pleased with his 2nd half display.

Nice to see Guly get some praise.

Adkins - Excellent.

Nice to see so many positive responses on here considering we lost. Hope this can continue!!!

(Can we stop the 'if we play like that this season we will be fine' phrase though please?! Heard it too much the last time we were in the prem!!

A few additions here and there and we've got a team capable of mid table.

immensely proud of the team, keep playing like we did in the second half and we would have no problems staying up!

our midfield looked solid with maybe the slight exception of schneiderlin in his defensive role, NA will have a tough time choosing from lallana jwp and davies who all looked fantastic!

lambert should probably start against wigan being a home game and all, really lifted the team and brought a sense of belief to the team that we could get something out of this game.

overall, fantastic display and I'm already lookin forward to the next game! (with Phillips and Ramirez strengthening the team :p)

Denied a cert pen, Man C goal offside, Webb bottled out of booking two City players in the opening minutes. Pass of the day? Header from Fox for third city goal. We played really well (after our rocky start). Feel really disappointed, considering I thought we would lose 3-0!

I don't entirely agree with JWP being panicky. One instance he had the ball somewhat unexpectedly, he turned a full 180 degrees and saw no good option for a pass, so he just booted it way upfield. That was good composure and safe play. You can't keep possession 100% of the time.

Excellent shift from ALL the team today.

Big shout out to Guly

Was given a job in t the 1st half and did it well and then even though he must have been knackered he still played in 2 other positions. Dxb Saints in the pub loved the 1st half moment where he skinned Kompany.

Lambert - PL quality finisher showed the ability to hold the ball up

Puncheon - wasn't his best in the 1st half & got in th wrong place a coulple of times 2nd but put in a good stint & got past the defender

JRod great start to the game faded

Adam - when he learns he can only get one touch in the pL he will be lethal could have had a couple IF ONLY he didn't take the 2nd touch

Jos & Jose - Immense well done boys

Clyne & Fox - great effort from both, Fox especially as JRod faded in 1st half he had so many 2 on 1's from some of the PL's finest, shame he messed the defensive header up

KD couple of cracking saves, beaten on the near post though hmm heard that one before

JWP. Couple of mistakes but what a debut

Morgan. What we always knew - PL quality WHEN he learns to shoot

Davis? Legend what an introduction.

Sharp & Guly in CM at the end.,..

Well done Nige you scared the Krap out of them and suddenly EVERYONE knows who we are.

Best defeat I've watched since the FA Cup defeat to Man Ure while in L1

Bring in some quality and this team could scare a lot of teams

This, cautious opening, suck out the sting, bring Lambert on for the final 30, Bring on two scoring subs, open the game up when they are tiring!

So proud Guly, Lambert, Cline every one of them in a red shirt magic!

This is how I expected to set up and play from all the previous talk from Adkins, exactly what was required against City and so nearly worked. So proud of the players and the performance but in reality. still not sure how many points we will have on the board after 6 games? It's how we play against the lesser to mid teams that will decide our fate. We rode our luck at times, defended well and lulled City into a false sense of security, but I always thought they would get at least a point from the game.

The crunch will come against someone like Wigan at home where we don't lap up all the pressure in the first half and expose the defence to get forward instead. Clyne looks a bargain already with others able to do a job in the Premier, but I am wary this will work with a committed attacking style in the Premier.

Too many balls in defence were recycled into our danger area, Kelvin and Fox the biggest culprits with others adding cameo roles. Get the ball out of danger even if that means giving away a corner.

I was watching in a pub in Edinburgh and hugged a random Scottish Man Utd fan when Lambo scored. After the second goal he legged it down the length of the pub to have another one. Shame we couldn't hold on but proud of the lads. Guly and Cyne were class.

Because while he was far from perfect, Punch gave him alot more cover.
