Was told early this morning that we would be signing Phillips, Butner and Ramirez today. Didnt think too much of it, although the source was right about Jrod and Clyne. Now that it is being reported on Sky that Ramirez is going to sign, thought I'd post this........

Um, apart from the fact that link is already in the Gaston Ramirez thread, that just says he's headed to Southampton to agree terms. We already know we've agreed a fee. The fact that he's done an interview saying how much we're paying him and is pleased with it is a very good sign, but he still has to sign the deal.

Quality. Going on those quotes I'd guess we're paying him £50k per week or more?

Ramirez has done an interview already :

Ramirez told Corriere Dello Sport: "They believe in me in every way... and above all I have said that they are going to grow. Southampton is a newly promoted team in the English top flight, but they have the means to stand tall in a few years. And with me they are going to build. It's all very stimulating. Even if it is a little strange."

The 21-year-old scored eight goals in 28 apperances in Serie A last season and revealed that he was offered a deal that was too hard to refuse.

"The truth? I think so, yes, this time," he said when asked if he was about to leave. "Bologna have reached an economic agreement with Southampton. There are only a few details to sort out, but they have found the agreement in principle, and the English club have reached an agreement with me.

"It is an offer that you cannot refuse. They will give me so much money (€2 million net per year and more than €1 million signing-on fee)."

Nicola Cortese, executive chairman of Southampton, is believed to have been key in bringing the youngster to the club from Italy.

I dont think we'll sign Philips and Ramirez.

i cant see why not, both can play on either side both have pace both like to take on defenders all which we miss and it means we wont be wasting a striker on the left. Would cause a bit of a headache keeping all the strikers happy though.

Yes, that was the quote I was referring to in my post, which was in the skysports page that I had quoted - hence my point that we must be offering him pretty serious money. Actualyl, I see in your ESPN link they've added in his wages/signing on fee - similar to my guess of £50k per week I think.

Not that fussed about Sunday, we'll lose regardless. The season starts next Saturday, get everyone in for the Wigan game.

Don't be so sure my friend. Saints will win 2-0 and confound that wee moanin' minnie on MotD.

Lee Dixon has had the good sense to jump ship rather that sit alongside him and that useless geordie goon.

You think both of them could play and Lallana, plus a "striker"?

Surely 2 million euros a year is more like £30k a week?

Interesting to see he says 'net' though. Bloody footballers expect clubs to pay their tax for them, and all these obscenely high wages we see quoted are after tax is deducted (or not in the case of Portsmouth).

Err, so just how many of the 25 places in the squad have been taken up now?

Davis, Gazza

Clyne, Richardson, Fonte, Seaborne, Joss, Fox, Shaw (Buttner)

Morgan, Guly, Davis, Hammond, Lallana, Chaplow, (Phillips)

(Ramirez), Punch, Sharp, Lambert, Lee, JayRod

I make that 22 or 23 if you include Buttner per the rumours? Who have I missed (nippers don't count)? If correct that leaves 2 spaces for CB's?

wowo I'm in there before MLG.....ready... You don't have to count under 21 players in the squad of 25. Or something like that MLG will be along later to clear it up.

Far better he trains and works out with the squad than being rushed into playing and ending up injured. There is a long, tough season ahead and a fully familiarised and prepared player is better to us in the long run. The British game will take some getting used to besides settling in and moving to the area.

I just hope that Ramirez will not upset the team spirit of the team if he signs. I mean it sounds like he will be on massive wages compared to the speculated wages of the rest of the team.

I know what ŷou mean, but how do you progress? Sooner or later, lambert and fonten won't be first choice players

Subtract Puncheon from that if you're including Phillips - gives another spare spot.
