Ian the Red Posted 17 August, 2012 Posted 17 August, 2012 Was told early this morning that we would be signing Phillips, Butner and Ramirez today. Didnt think too much of it, although the source was right about Jrod and Clyne. Now that it is being reported on Sky that Ramirez is going to sign, thought I'd post this........
The9 Posted 17 August, 2012 Posted 17 August, 2012 Need to sign anyone by noon for them to be eligible for Sunday (not that we usually do things like that).
itchen_dan Posted 17 August, 2012 Posted 17 August, 2012 I can see Phillips and Ramirez if anyone but I've got a feeling Buttner may again drag right on until the deadline. Hope I'm wrong though.
Honk Kong Phooey Posted 17 August, 2012 Posted 17 August, 2012 If true we are spending £21m today. £12m Ramirez £6m Phillips £3m Buttner and CBs still to come?
Turkish Posted 17 August, 2012 Posted 17 August, 2012 If true we are spending £21m today. £12m Ramirez £6m Phillips £3m Buttner and CBs still to come? I dont think we'll sign Philips and Ramirez.
fish fingers Posted 17 August, 2012 Posted 17 August, 2012 Need to sign anyone by noon for them to be eligible for Sunday (not that we usually do things like that). Not that fussed about Sunday, we'll lose regardless. The season starts next Saturday, get everyone in for the Wigan game.
Thedelldays Posted 17 August, 2012 Posted 17 August, 2012 I dont think we'll sign Philips and Ramirez. if we did...surely that would be de ridder and puncheon out of the door
The Kraken Posted 17 August, 2012 Posted 17 August, 2012 if we did...surely that would be de ridder and puncheon out of the door That's no bad thing; neither have looked like they'll be good enough for anything more than relegation. Swap deal for Phillips with Puncheon maybe.....
Dr Who? Posted 17 August, 2012 Posted 17 August, 2012 http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11700/7997121/Saints-agree-record-deal one down.

Made in Southampton Posted 17 August, 2012 Posted 17 August, 2012 http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11700/7997121/Saints-agree-record-deal one down. Holy sheet.
Sour Mash Posted 17 August, 2012 Posted 17 August, 2012 http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11700/7997121/Saints-agree-record-deal one down. Quality. Going on those quotes I'd guess we're paying him £50k per week or more?
The9 Posted 17 August, 2012 Posted 17 August, 2012 Um, apart from the fact that link is already in the Gaston Ramirez thread, that just says he's headed to Southampton to agree terms. We already know we've agreed a fee. The fact that he's done an interview saying how much we're paying him and is pleased with it is a very good sign, but he still has to sign the deal.
Ken Tone Posted 17 August, 2012 Posted 17 August, 2012 Need to sign anyone by noon for them to be eligible for Sunday (not that we usually do things like that). Genuine question -- is the deadline not later because it's a sunday ko rather than a saturday ko?
The9 Posted 17 August, 2012 Posted 17 August, 2012 Quality. Going on those quotes I'd guess we're paying him £50k per week or more? Ramirez has done an interview already : Ramirez told Corriere Dello Sport: "They believe in me in every way... and above all I have said that they are going to grow. Southampton is a newly promoted team in the English top flight, but they have the means to stand tall in a few years. And with me they are going to build. It's all very stimulating. Even if it is a little strange." The 21-year-old scored eight goals in 28 apperances in Serie A last season and revealed that he was offered a deal that was too hard to refuse. "The truth? I think so, yes, this time," he said when asked if he was about to leave. "Bologna have reached an economic agreement with Southampton. There are only a few details to sort out, but they have found the agreement in principle, and the English club have reached an agreement with me. "It is an offer that you cannot refuse. They will give me so much money (€2 million net per year and more than €1 million signing-on fee)." Nicola Cortese, executive chairman of Southampton, is believed to have been key in bringing the youngster to the club from Italy. DrunkenSaint Posted 17 August, 2012 Posted 17 August, 2012 I dont think we'll sign Philips and Ramirez. i cant see why not, both can play on either side both have pace both like to take on defenders all which we miss and it means we wont be wasting a striker on the left. Would cause a bit of a headache keeping all the strikers happy though.

Actualyl, I see in your ESPN link they've added in his wages/signing on fee - similar to my guess of £50k per week I think.
Charlie Wayman Posted 17 August, 2012 Posted 17 August, 2012 Not that fussed about Sunday, we'll lose regardless. The season starts next Saturday, get everyone in for the Wigan game. Don't be so sure my friend. Saints will win 2-0 and confound that wee moanin' minnie on MotD. Lee Dixon has had the good sense to jump ship rather that sit alongside him and that useless geordie goon.
alpine_saint Posted 17 August, 2012 Posted 17 August, 2012 f-CK ME - That's one in the eye for the knockers who said we were finished! NOBODY said we were finished.

Interesting to see he says 'net' though. Bloody footballers expect clubs to pay their tax for them, and all these obscenely high wages we see quoted are after tax is deducted (or not in the case of Portsmouth).
mightysaints Posted 17 August, 2012 Posted 17 August, 2012 Sat by pool in bulgaria and have told the wife if this goes ahead I will run round the pool naked
Saint Fan CaM Posted 17 August, 2012 Posted 17 August, 2012 Err, so just how many of the 25 places in the squad have been taken up now? Davis, Gazza Clyne, Richardson, Fonte, Seaborne, Joss, Fox, Shaw (Buttner) Morgan, Guly, Davis, Hammond, Lallana, Chaplow, (Phillips) (Ramirez), Punch, Sharp, Lambert, Lee, JayRod I make that 22 or 23 if you include Buttner per the rumours? Who have I missed (nippers don't count)? If correct that leaves 2 spaces for CB's?

Or something like that MLG will be along later to clear it up.

Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 17 August, 2012 Posted 17 August, 2012 You missed out Cork and ward prowse. Seabourne won't be in the 25. Ward Prowse won't be either.

Viking Warrior Posted 17 August, 2012 Posted 17 August, 2012 why does the bbc text still show the buttner deal is still on. dont they ever look at whats on there.its been on for weeks.
mattyd Posted 17 August, 2012 Posted 17 August, 2012 if we make the 12 noon deadline i am not sure international clearance will come through in time for Sunday. Did we not have a hell of a wait when we last had to go through the Italian FA?
Saint Garrett Posted 17 August, 2012 Posted 17 August, 2012 As long as he can train with us and play vs Wigan, I'm not fussed if he can play vs City.
itchen_dan Posted 17 August, 2012 Posted 17 August, 2012 As long as he can train with us and play vs Wigan, I'm not fussed if he can play vs City. Agree. It would've been nice but give him a weeks training with us and then throw him in against Wigan, infront of a home support, in a much more important game.
ART Posted 17 August, 2012 Posted 17 August, 2012 Far better he trains and works out with the squad than being rushed into playing and ending up injured. There is a long, tough season ahead and a fully familiarised and prepared player is better to us in the long run. The British game will take some getting used to besides settling in and moving to the area.
Saint J 77 Posted 17 August, 2012 Posted 17 August, 2012 I just hope that Ramirez will not upset the team spirit of the team if he signs. I mean it sounds like he will be on massive wages compared to the speculated wages of the rest of the team.

Sooner or later, lambert and fonten won't be first choice players

Sooner or later, lambert and fonten won't be first choice players This, and they should welcome quality additions. This kind of stuff clearly gets talked about amonst the players - they must be buzzing about it.
eelpie Posted 17 August, 2012 Posted 17 August, 2012 We need at least one cb!!! A toughie like Jaidi was when he played in the Prem
pangy Posted 17 August, 2012 Posted 17 August, 2012 Why do we have to show anyone the door? It will be a long season for us and we will no doubt need a fill squad to get us through it,you will have injuries all over the place
lizardking365 Posted 17 August, 2012 Posted 17 August, 2012 f-CK ME - That's one in the eye for the knockers who said we were finished! haha. This.
Smirking_Saint Posted 17 August, 2012 Posted 17 August, 2012 Not sure if Ramirez or Phillips have to be included IF they sign either as they are 21
Gambol2K9 Posted 17 August, 2012 Posted 17 August, 2012 Nope, I thought that too, but van Persie has to sign by noon too, and Man U are playing on Monday night. It's cos it has to be done one working day prior.
SW11_Saint Posted 17 August, 2012 Posted 17 August, 2012 Would be great, but we still need those centre-backs.
