Pugwash Posted 16 August, 2012 Posted 16 August, 2012 Just watched this on BBC2, all about the pioneering work of a Jewish-German doctor in treating spinal injuries at Stoke Mandeville Hospital during the war, which started the paralympics movement. Sometimes sad and desperate, occasionally angers, but ultimately truly uplifting. Excellent drama of a true story that needed to be told. Get it on catch up if you haven't seen it.
anothersaintinsouthsea Posted 17 August, 2012 Posted 17 August, 2012 Agreed. Missus wanted to watch it and was glad we did.
Frank's cousin Posted 17 August, 2012 Posted 17 August, 2012 Had a watch after your recommendation - really good. Quite moving as well and the sort of thing teh BBC does really well. Still on IPayer for next 6 days
bridge too far Posted 17 August, 2012 Posted 17 August, 2012 Bugger - missed it I had quite a lot to do with Stoke Mandeville Spinal Injuries unit many years ago (via Jimmy Saville) and I was amazed, humbled and sometimes sad when I visited.

jjsaint Posted 17 August, 2012 Posted 17 August, 2012 We taped this & will watch soon. Looking forward to it.
bridge too far Posted 18 August, 2012 Posted 18 August, 2012 OK we've just watched it and I'm still in bits. Brilliant, just brilliant and it brought back memories of my (very small) involvement with Stoke Mandeville (which was and still is nowhere near as pretty as shown in the film). That film deserves an award and jeez what an amazing man he was.
