Matt Phillips £6m official bid

Although they're both wingers' date=' I think it depends what you're after. Ince is left footed and, whilst it appears to me that he has a bit of pace, he is more about trickery and would be more like a poorer version of Ramirez IMO. Phillips, on the other hand, is more about pace and power, is more explosive, is right footed and would presumably play where Jay Rod is failing on the left, cutting in on his right foot. If we do get Ramirez and we can get a Blackpool winger, I think we're making the right choice for our requirements.[/quote']

totally agree and this is how I explained it to a mate of mine earlier in the week.

We might be in for Mayuka instead for the pace element.

Is Arjan De Zeuuw still knocking about? He would add some passion alongside Hooiveld and we can send Fonte to the knackers yard.

De Zeuuw is now a detective in his native Holland. If Sol campbell is still unattached though, surely worth a 1 year deal?

QPR supposedly in for Mayuka with a bid of £3.5m - illustrates just how overrated and overpriced British players are. Def HCDAJFU. Very unlike QPR though.

Attracting Phillips isn't the problem. We've already tapped him up, offered him a wage he fancies and he's put a transfer request in. Championship Blackpool's wages are tiny, so no prizes for guessing why he fancied the move. The question is, how much will it cost us. I'd guess at over £8m. That is a hell of a lot when you consider the premiership proven Lee Chung-yong is available for less.

How much would Ince cost? He looks a class act to me.

Blackpool just seem a nightmare to deal with. We've offered good money but they just refuse to answer any correspondence from us. As far as I'm concerned this one is dead.

Ince basically isn't for sale, I read somewhere that it would take upwards of £10m to tempt them to sell, as Liverpool have a 50% clause on any future transfer.

Why are they a nightmare? Operating pretty shrewdly as far as I can tell. You want them to spread their legs and for a white flag to pop out?

Sol Campbell retired, for a good reason... Having him about would be a bit like having Gallas about, throwing money into the wind because we can (the lest bling status symbol known to man)

the low wages up there mean players will always be `available'. They may be tied to contracts, but you can't hold onto players when they can double their incomes with a move. If players feel the right sort of transfer fee has been offered, but it has been turned down they very quickly become unhappy and then you have lost them. I don't think the deal is dead at all, we just need to increase the offer.

I've been told Phillips is "only" on £7k a week.

Intrigued to know how you would know that they refuse to answer any correspondence "from us" - assuming you mean SFC and not letters or emails that you have sent personally. It seems quite clear to me that they have been in correspondence already, perhaps not with Oyston, but with their Chief Exec, as Holloway has stated, so doesn't seem that much of a problem to me. They are only being difficult in the sense that they want to keep what they have and don't want or apparently need to sell. On the other hand Philips is clearly not as crucial to them as many believe, after all they managed to win 6-0 on Saturday without him in the starting XI, they were already 5-0 up when he came on. I think they are probably working on the basis that he will be gone soon, one way or another. Must admit in my view, Ince would have been the better target, he really does look the dogs dangly bits, but would just be concerned long term that his old man would try to get him into one of his spiritual home teams.

@MarkyBryans is Philips still an option for saints?

@dankiz1 certainly. The 'wide player' referred to I think hints to Philips still being on the list of names Adkins has.

@ChrisHamerton @dankiz1 I think Zaha would cost more, but fits in with Adkins' ethos of wanting young, hungry, dynamic players.

@ChrisHamerton @dankiz1 Blackpool have Ince (a better player IMO) so maybe could be moved on Philips, £+player even?

Been saying for a while that I think we will end up going for him again in January and this article suggests so. Right bid and he will come, no question.

So long as he is behind a couple of defenders and a holding midfielder in the queue that's ok. Don't see why we need him though to be honest.

Doesn't really excite me to be honest, money could be spent much better elsewhere.

WHY ON EARTH are we looking at championship players? why dont we get some prem expirance in the team like we should of done a few months ago?

QPR did that and it's really worked out for them ... oh!

I thought Oyston had reported our "evil, self obsessed, diminutive, just as bad as the skates at paying bills" chairman for an illegal approach back in August?

Hardly likely to do business with such a disreputable club you would imagine.

As I said at the time, the tapping up thing was nothing to do with us and in no way our fault.

Agree, but I think his dad might end up deciding his destination especially as liverpool are interested.

And Man U Apparantly. He was at Liverpool before so doubt he'll go back there. I think he moved to Blackpool so he'd play, if that is what he wants then we might have a chance.

Liverpool probably would play him though, they have been playing Suso regularly on the wing as well as Sterling.

Phillips is hardly setting the CCC alight, why we think he would the PL

Fair point - he did look very good last season and has good attributes.

Just before Holloway left for Palace he did an interview saying that Phillips was very upset at not being allowed to move here in the summer and it had affected him so far this season.

He said that perhaps Blackpool had been wrong to force him to stay as they always told their players that they wouldn't stand in the way of a good career move.

IOn short - he hasn't become a bad player overnight, and IMO would give us the blistering pace we lack - but obviously a centre back should be priority 1.
