Joesaint Posted 15 August, 2012 Posted 15 August, 2012 MLT is a top bloke, and I really hope this works - I'm sure it will, when players get good enough I hope saints to get him to help our lot.

Thanks for posting that, it's a really good article. I am really happy to see Matt doing something in football beyond punditry, he has a unique insight and perspective as a sublimely talented player who hated the confines of traditional coaching and training. And let's face it, it can't hurt to try something different given the lack of English talent coming through. I look forward to seeing how this goes.
Toomer Posted 16 August, 2012 Posted 16 August, 2012 (edited) Adkins might think about sending some our players round to him so they can be taught how to take corners and dead ball kicks. Edited 16 August, 2012 by Toomer
OldNick Posted 16 August, 2012 Posted 16 August, 2012 coaching the art of eating a mars bar while taking a swig of coca cola. I doubt you can teach players MLT's skill, I hope he has an insight into the game that can be taught
Bucks Saint Posted 16 August, 2012 Posted 16 August, 2012 Adkins might think about sending some our players round to him so they can be taught how to take corners and dead ball kicks. This. Never understood why England don't use him for the two weeks before tournaments, to coach penalty taking at least

Webby Posted 16 August, 2012 Posted 16 August, 2012 I'm not sure what I make of this. For one, you can't teach what Matt had; that was just genius. You also can't teach penalty taking like he did. If you could, then he'd be sought after by most international teams come tournament time. His talent is mostly down to the way he could strike the ball and you can't teach that. Some might say he was lazy on the pitch. His reluctance to go through the 'boredom' of the coaching badges would suggest he's lazy off it too. Don't get me wrong, he's a legend and I'm priviledged to have been able to watch him from start to finish at Saints, but I'm not sure if this is gonna work out, but I hope it does. Good luck Matt.
