Adkins Favourite for the Chop

Dig Dig

Recommended Posts

Paddy Power on Talk Sport now. NA is favourite to be first manager to get sacked in the PL this season at 4/1. BFS second at 7's.

Nice positive way to start the season.

To put it into perspective though, Pardew was favourite this time last year so could be a good omen!

Only a complete fool would sack Adkins even if we go down. You have to wonder why he is favourite, in theory he should have one of the safest jobs in the country.

Not really.

Hasn't done any impressive business in the transfer window (so far), has an ambitious chairman who has stated his rather optimistic ambitions for the club in public and has also proven in the past that he's not afraid to sack a popular manager. I'd say on paper he probably is one of the favourites to go. The only reason Big Sam isn't ahead of him is because WHU owners showed loyalty to him last season when he was under pressure.

Given the start we have, and the lack of quality proven signings, it would hardly be a shock to see him gone by Christmas/New Year. As things stand we're only a couple of injuries away from being spanked out of sight as opposed to just the standard humiliation. He may well pull off a roy of the rovers style season, and of course I hope he does, but it's hard to find three clubs to finish below us in truth.

How can you say he hasn't made good signings when we havn't even kicked a ball yet this season - bizarre!

We could have Sir Alex in charge this season and still go down. Adkin's record is outstanding.

I was putting the bookies odds into context. As we haven't kicked a ball, you have to go with what's on paper. Our signings aren't going to worry anyone. Nobody is going to look at us and say that we've really strengthened and are a force to be reckoned with. Plenty of managers have done well in getting their team to the Premiership and have then been sacked. Phil Brown and Neil Warnock for instance, both victims of their own success.

Adkins is IMO the best manager we have had. Articulate, intelligent, forward thinking, loyal , not afraid to change things when it's going wrong, has obviously created a great team spirit on and off the pitch, and got us promoted twicein fact he could turn out to be an epic manager. FFS give the bloke a break, if Cortese sacks him then the bloke is a deluded bigot.

FFS what a joke !!. We have one of the best up and coming managers in the country. He was god in May and hasnt had a competitive game since. He had an amazing work ethic and after what is a tricky start he'll be marked as a success at the end of the season. Yet were talking about Redt*at coming back. Jeez.

Calm down, dear. No one is saying he should be sacked, just merely giving reason to the bookies odds.

Oh and do you even know what bigot means?

At least with Redknapp we'd stop trying to sign the whole NPC Team of the Season 11/12.

Would suit Redknapp now, only failed here because the chairman at the time was a ****. It is close to his home has now got ambitious chairman . . You heard it here first.

Though to be truthful im more "in the pub" than "in the know"

'Only failed because of the chairman at the time' that's a laugh. Were you unfortunate enough to see the complete rubbish we played under Redknapp?? Were you there to see the complete fraud of a pay day he gave his over the hill son who was completely past it? Were you there to watch our relegation that followed his non existent tactics? Were you there when he left our floundering relegated ship for his 'Spiritual Home'. He failed because he was not up to bringing on a team that didn't have 100m to spend and we still don't! The guy is full of flannel and nothing else - old man with old ideas who would not embrace the modern thinking of our current philosophy. He failed because he was not up to it.......

I think in the context of Didcot Saint's post, the word bigot could be deemed appropriate, and I know what it means, perhaps you dont?

Since Redknapp lost his job at Totteringham I've had an inkling he'd end up back at Saints as Director of Football. Then again, his dodgy dealing reputation would probably make him "persona non grata" in Nicola's eyes. Nicola has more respect for the likes of Silvio Berlusconi :)

I've already said I reckon this will be Nigels last season with us if he does well he'll be gone (to a bigger established PL team) if he doesn't do well NC will wield the axe. After all last time NC sacked the manager things worked out very well...............and then their was that interview the day we got promoted:suspicious:

Don't agree with this but not surprised by it. Even on here we can't make up our mind about the rumours on a break down in the relationship between NA and NC. We're seen as an easy target as a newly promoted team with very little PL experience and the tabloid press knows Cortese is pretty ruthless, so it don't take much to put 2 an 2 together to make 5.

Wigan, Norwich, Swansea imo this season going down as squads stand.

Norwich won't. Wigan will. Swansea might. I still think we're relegation fodder as it stands. What we need is two or three other clubs to start badly. As good as Lambert is, I actually think his move to Villa is downgrading. I can see Villa struggling. There's always one bigger team that slips down. People say QPR are going to be fine this seasono because of the players they've signed but I think that they're largely average, past it players. Their team is also cluttered. It could be them.

No way would NC and Redknapp get on. NC would desperately be trying to do business "the right way" whilst Redknapp is hanging out of his car window spilling the beans to anyone who would listen. If NA goes, his replacement would of the modern ilk, not a dinosaur like Redknapp.

I'd be more than happy turning my back on football altogether if Redknapp ever returns here. It's laughable some fans are even contemplating the idea when we haven't kicked a ball in the Premier League and have one of the best up and coming British managers in the game. Isn't that what we were craving for so long since HR took us down?

NA to be sacked?

Worth a punt if NC is close to getting some serious new owners. We are the next Man City! :)

..... although I'd be very sad to see NA leave. He has the potential to be a cracking Premier League manager in due course, though I wonder if he knows the League well enough right now. His spending has not included any seasoned - quality - Premier pros and that concerns me. I'd be looking for experience to bolster our side not loads of Championship talent.

Still, we shall see. Frankly, I hope he makes the transition. He deserves his chance and if he keeps us up I'll be happy. I think NA will do that job, we'll finish mid-table under him IMHO. But, with money, ambitious owners and a proven high level manager attracting high end players, the sky's the limit!
