JRM Posted 14 August, 2012 Posted 14 August, 2012 have finally got round to upgrading my phone and going to get rid of my current one, HTC Desire HD, first time i've ever had one probably worth selling. Have seen adverts for companies that buy old mobiles but not sure which one is best to go with, has anyone else done this? tips?
twopintsnilnil Posted 14 August, 2012 Posted 14 August, 2012 Ebay. You'll get about £100 as long as it's in good nick, maybe a little more if it's unlocked. I doubt if you'd get that from a company offering to buy it from you. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
marc_saint Posted 14 August, 2012 Posted 14 August, 2012 I work for Carphone Warehouse and we buy phones. Without sounding like and advert, we will always beat online places such as Mazuma Mobile etc. You'll generally get more on ebay if its in good nick though
Turkish Posted 14 August, 2012 Posted 14 August, 2012 (edited) Mrs Turkish sold her Iphone 3 on ebay for about 90 sheets a few months ago. Correction - just checked, it was actually £150. Edited 14 August, 2012 by Turkish

ant Posted 14 August, 2012 Posted 14 August, 2012 Cex often offer stupidly high prices for phones, they've got stores everywhere but you can also look it up on their website: http://www.cex.co.uk.
stu0x Posted 14 August, 2012 Posted 14 August, 2012 Get it unlocked by the network (if you are out of contract they *have* to unlock it for you) then stick it on eBay. If your listing is half decent you'll smash any amount CPW/CEX will offer you. A good trick on eBay is offer something free, eg 'free delivery' and/or 'free sd card', the outlay will be easily outstripped by the increased sale price. Start at 1 penny, no reserve, good pictures and description and don't bottle it when you start getting messages asking you if you have a Buy It Now price Oh, and always time it to finish on sunday evening
This Charming Man Posted 14 August, 2012 Posted 14 August, 2012 Check on here mate. Compares all the sites available; http://www.sellmymobile.com/ Most put the money in your account within 3 days. I've used Cash 4 Phones and Envirofone in the past and both were quick. Make sure they send out a free envelope for you so you don't have to fork out for postage.
Saint137 Posted 14 August, 2012 Posted 14 August, 2012 If selling on eBay make sure you take note of the IMEI and serial numbers, too many scrotes who will try and rip you off by claiming it arrived locked or claiming damage/trying to send back a broken version of the same phone. Take really good quality shots of every surface of the phone, particularly the screen, and make sure its so well-packed it would be impossible to damage in transit (take pics of the package before sending, and insist on special delivery as well). Have had good and bad experiences of buying/selling phones on eBay and the above will ensure you're as protected as you can be as a seller
Torres Posted 15 August, 2012 Posted 15 August, 2012 Take a look at selling it via Amazon Marketplace. You'll get more there than on EBay and, in my experience, there are far fewer scammers there. Desire HDs are selling there (used) for £149.99 upwards.

I've sold a few on there in the past and don't even bother with it now. Last phone I sold I did collection only which obviously severely hampered the final selling price but was the only way to guarantee I wasn't dealing with a scammer.
