Butterfield, Seaborne, Dickson, Barnard and Forte all probably not giving a toss might help clarify what's happening with this one. Takes some balls to call that an U-21 team.

I bet you some of them do, there is a large number of scouts at the game today and a number of the players you mention have no future at Saints.

Saints are only using 2 overage players more than the Premier League Under 21 league will allow when it starts.

my first thought when I saw the team line-up. Are any of them under 21 ?

Oh, one or two must be I suppose....and then I thought...are we expecting Brighton to sign one of them? .....surely not ..but then again .. Hello there Gus ..

Southampton FC ‏@officialsaints #SaintsFC U21 team v Brighton: Cropper, Butterfield, Stephens, Seaborne, Dickson, Reeves, Chambers, Curtis, Hoskins, Barnard ©, Forte.

#SaintsFC substitutes v Brighton: Johns (GK), Young, Isgrove, Moore, Sinclair, Turnbull, Lee.

Reckon that saints team would make a decent league 1 outfit surprised the likes of Butterfield , Dickson and Barnard haven't found a team yet even Forte could do a job for someone in league 1.

I think (for the time being) Butterfield is still a part of the plan, but Dickson and Barnard have done themselves no harm at all by getting in the goals, but the most satisfying thing is surely that Lee can kick a ball again.

3rd choice right back isn't particularly high on the plan. Cork and Stephens might even make Butterfield 4th or 5th choice.

maybe so, but with Cork out and Stephens distinct lack of first team (let alone Prem. level football).. Butterfield is useful to have around, at least in the short term. He still has one year on his old contract and we may need him in emergencies.

He turned in some very useful performances at the end of last season when Richardson was out.
