Drinking - How much and how often

I am cutting down now and there are days when I don't drink anything.

During the Olympics I lapsed a bit, a beer or two watching boxing or some of the events hit the spot

How about you guys? What's normal for you.

Have any of you had to stop due to health reasons as has happened to my brother?

I don't drink that often, probably less then once a week, maybe once every two weeks.

I do have a massive blow out every so often, usually an all dayer. On Sat between me and a mate we had, over the course of a day/night 1 bottle of vodka, 1 bottle of whiskey, about 8 beers and a couple of shots. This is pretty unusual though, maybe once ever couple of months.

Barely touch a drop during the week.

Then when the weekend comes, I consume as much as my body will allow before passing out. This tends to be during the football season and I tone it down during the summer. Saying that though, I woke up in someone's back garden the other weekend with no recollection of how I got there, I was also escorted out of the local nightclub for refusing to put my trousers on.

Very rarely go out to drink now as it's far too expensive, except at the CC on a Friday evening when my son his netting, when I may have a couple of pints.

I'll buy beer / pear cider / decent white wine when I see it on offer but don't drink on school nights & never drink to get drunk.

Can't believe how much my wife & I used to drink before we had the kids. :scared:

I rarely drink during the week, maybe one bottle of beer or a glass or two of wine with food, or with a film, maybe once during the week.

I really only drink when I'm out, and nowadays I'm mostly just out when Saints are playing. About 3-4 pints on any match day when I'm going to the match. If I go to the pub other than that it's for the father-in-law's band and that's only a couple of pints once every few months on top of the footy.

However, back in 1999 when I was working in a team of 7 all staying in hotels Mon-Fri (and then going out Fri and Sat nights), I must have been drinking on average 3 pints a night. It was never an issue, though I did once go out in Cardiff and absolutely couldn't get any kind of drunk feeling at all, despite realising after a few points and deliberately mixing pretty much anything. That was just WEIRD, I felt stone cold sober off about 25 units. I reeled it back in after that, but not having the "hotel bar with work colleagues" thing made it easy to cut down to just Friday/Saturday binges.

Oh, and I was teetotal until I was 25, and for 2 months earlier this year just to see if I could.

3 pints a night? Bloody hell! How did you not end up in rehab?

Its like ive got a split personallity.

If i have drink in the house, I would have 2/3 pints a night, every night, until it's gone.

If i dont have anything in, i dont miss it and dont think to go out and buy any - it's only after parties etc that i tend to have anything in.

That being said, I was out on a work night out last night, and rolled in at 3:30 this morning. Today has been tough!

What the **** are you gays going on about? I mean I know they're lyrics or whatever, I just don't get why you're crooning them at each other. It's gay!

Edit: The above is from a little known b-side!

Bearsy. The more that you follow me The more I get lost You think that you know me You're p*ssing me off Yeah you say that you love me Why don't you f*ck off?

But if bearsy stays for a while.. I'll try to think of something kind to say.

With you Turkish, I may as well tell it to the sick and to the dammed.

Would you go as far as to say you cant stand me now?

Stay on topic Turkish. I can't take you anywhere.

How many cups of wine will I have consumed?

We're drinking whisky in a brave new afternoon. So raise your glasses, drink a toast to the boring classes.

I hate pouring my heart out on the forum.

It's better to confess all your sins after several large gins.

Are all of these lyrics by that fu.cking overrated tw.at Pete Doherty?

Football fans in predictable music taste shock.

It very much depends on my work circumstances. Until April I spent nearly 2 years working in Hull then Warwick, which obviously meant staying away from home. When we're away, we will usually have at least a couple in the pub after work with our dinner, and if there was any football on, it would often be 4 or 5. Then there were Thursday nights in Hull - 6 drinks for £8 in Barracuda = excessive binge drinking. Probably a good job we were playing 5 and 6 a side twice a week to keep the calories off.

Now that I'm home every night, and on a massive health drive, I don't drink at all in the week. And I'm drinking much less at the weekend as I've been working a lot of weekends. This will all change again from next weekend - when the footy is on, we go on the p*ss, and do it properly. 10am - 4am efforts are not uncommon. Will have to step it up in the gym to battle the weekend binge calories when the season starts.

Monday to Thursday, nothing, couple of beers and maybe a glass of wine on a friday, not much on a saturday (generally too knackered) unless i go out (pretty rare these days). Sunday is my worst/best day for booze. I do all the cooking on a weekend and we always have a decent family meal on a Sunday late afternoon, so i'm generally in a merlot haze from 3 o'clock, might see off a couple of bottles.
