Maybe International Clearance rather than a work permit. I remember we had to get int clearance for Steven D from Rangers.

You always have to get international clearance for a transfer between 2 countries, whatever level, standard practice. It is normally a formality, and is not affected by the quality of the player. It was only complicated a little with Steve Davis because of the Rangers situation, in that effectively he was not registered with a team affiliated to the Scottish FA.

Slots straight in for Jay Rodriguez on the left IMO. But as you said, he can also play right, in behind or as a ST. He's that sort of all covered front 3 type of player, will fit perfectly into the formation we're trying. He's the sort of player you need to make that formation work in the first place.

Did most of his best work for Bologna centrally and after that prefers the right to cut in.

Wise words Toomer but somehow Burley and Skacel aren't in the same League in terms of class and ability. Fingers crossed he will be a massive boost to us but we still need some bog standard old fashioned Premiership defenders and, dare I say it, some pace out wide. Far too one-dimensional on Saturday.

Yea it would have been great to have James Collins or someone similar. These bog standard premier league defenders are awesome

Confirms work permit needed, they can take ages.

Only if he does not meet the criteria, which is based on FIFA ranking of his international team and number of international appearances in last 2 or 3? years. Pahars took ages because Latvia were very lowly ranked. Uruguay are currently ranked 4th, so no problem there. As of Feb, Ramirez had played 9 times for Uruguay in last 2 years, so probably no issue there either.

Found the rules:

1. A player must have played for his country in at least 75% of its competitive “A” team matches he was available for selection, during the 2 years preceding the date of the application;

2. The player’s country must be at or above 70th place in the official FIFA World Rankings when averaged over the 2 years preceding the date of the application

He'll still need a work permit, even of he holds an EU passport, it just means that the % of him

Getting one are a lot higher than non-EU nationals.

Dont think so mate. EU nationals have a right to work across the EU.

"You are entitled to be recruited under the same conditions as nationals of the country in which you are seeking work. You cannot be asked to meet any additional requirements. This means that you can apply for any job vacancy advertised in any EU country, including public sector jobs

[h=2]Employment rights[/h]As an EU national working in another EU country you have the right to live there. For a stay of over three months, this right is confirmed by the issuing of a residence permit to EU nationals. You are subject to the same working conditions as nationals of the country you are working in as regards, for example, pay, dismissal, hours of work, maternity leave and health /safety at work. You are also subject to the same conditions as nationals of the host country with regard to the principles of equality between men and women."

But anyway since he is Ukrainian (not Russian as someone else seems to think) he will need a work permit as well as international clearance from the football authorities. So even if he signs today, I don't rate his chances of being cleared to play this weekend. Much more chance with Danish defenders though!

Play him on left or right then? GULY is no good at RM and JRod is not a LM

A player with his attributes has be playing in the middle pulling the strings. The hazard/silva roll is what he will do best. Lallana will have push back out wide and hopefully we bring in another flair winger with pace.

Forgetting the last bit,

Is there any proof he is an EU national? And he still needs clearance to work here. Which, as you have pointed out, is guaranteed for EU nationals (unless he's a drug dealer or wanted for murder etc)

And the reference to Russia....what were you trying to say when the IPad changed that as well?

That was a reference to pap's

"Know that Russia is not part of the EU, but they seem to be at the other end of the scale when it comes to foreign imports"

....since you ask

I would be very surprised if Ramirez is not played centrally in the typical no. 10 role.

Forward line of Lallana, Lambert, Phillips (or similar)

with Guly and Puncheon providing squad depth and Rodrigues competing with Rickie. Also think Lee could play wide of a forward 3 so plenty of options if Ramirez and Phillips sign.

Explain

Adkins has repeatedly talked about Lallana's new position in the team and he wouldn't have spent the whole of pre season playing him in the middle if he was then going to move him back out wide once we signed Ramirez. He'll stay central and Ramirez will play in one of the wide roles (if he signs)

Voters 572

Lots of empty voting stalls for a premier league transfer saga like this? Really poor effort from the fans and a nervous, subdued atmosphere in here... too many voters with idiotic oversized foam pens to put their X :( FFS even Pompey got 453 votes on a poll about which charity they would prefer to sponsor the re-signing of Vincent Pericard! They're the bestest voters in the land...

Thank you.

and just in case anyone is in any doubt. He's a winger, although i expect him to be able to rotate postions at times in the main he'll be a winger, because, well, he's a winger. Therefore i'd be very surprised if he's played in anything other than the position he plays in, which to clairfy, is as a winger.

If he's as good as suggested, you have to build the team around Ramirez and wherever he can do most damage -could be on the wing, could be more central (mindful that comes with defensive responsibilities). Anything else would be a waste.

Wrong AGAIN Turkish. He'll play the quarter back role for us.

Btw, he played most of last season through the middle for Bologna. Did alright for a winger
