You'd think he would be nailed on to leave Bologna now......but then you would have said that about Tevez at Man City last season also.

Same could be said for Puncheon our side as well.

The slight difference here is that Bolonga need the €€€€

Well that sounds much more encouraging. Expecting this to go through but possibly not until early Friday evening IMO. It will drag on no doubt.

It will drag on but I still think we're the only game in town at the moment. I don't think any other club want to spend as much as we do on this kid. And he seems to be happy to come to us too so it doesn't feel like the player is angling for a move somewhere else.

Just a protracted negotiation with the selling club. Which we can sort out.

I'm 90% confident.

The player and club know of our interest and what we'll offer. If Spurs go back, everyone knows they'll have to match/beat our personal offer.

It'll be who blinks first, unless an outside club come in and outbid us

Has anyone worked out if he'll need a work permit?

Has an Italian passport afaik.

AFAIK no-one on here actually knows. Most of their Uruguayan signings had "has a Spanish passport" or similar on their Bologna website stories when they signed, a couple of them didn't. His didn't.

Oh f^ck, lets hope its not another "yippee we've signed him, class player , should be available in six to eight weeks when we get a work permit" .

A sudden turn, probably decisive. Agent Ramirez, Pablo Betancourt, was in England. He convinced the president of the Southampton to pay 14 million for 70% of the card of the player. Thus giving up commissions to agents just to close the deal. The deal is not yet closed, there are still details. The Penarol must accept that 30% of the card is paid from Southampton. It is 5% for those who formed the player. Expect only the cards and guarantees, but this time just missing. Ramirez is outside the EU, they need a work permit to play in England. That's why his agent tomorrow will be in Rome for the visa, between Thursday and Friday will be in England. To close the Southampton may be the right time ...

Surprised it's us that's blinked though (if true). I honestly thought it would be Bolonga who'd have been forced to accept what we offered.

But this is pretty solid - both of these guys, tancredi and dimazrio have been very sharp on this all the way through.

Cortese put up his white flag thats a shame i reckon if we had have waited a bit longer in the week they would have crumbled first.

It would have been very dangerous though, what with the work permit (and I'm absolutely certain that I read that he had an Italian passport)

No way. After that performance we can't mess around any longer. To get the correct players in in the short time available we may have to show a little flexibility.

Cortese isn't the only stubborn negotiator in football as this saga has shown. Sometimes you just have to know when to back down.

The full release to the Italian media:

A sudden turn, decisive. The agent of Gaston Ramirez, Pablo Betancourt, is in England. It 'party yesterday morning, after an intense exchange of e-mail with Southampton. He convinced the president to pay 14 million for 70% of the card of the player. Renouncing its committees just to close the deal. 30% of the tag will remain so at Penarol and the player's agents. It 'a story he worked on in the late evening Peppe Di Stefano. According to sources close to Ramirez filters, then the deal is already closed. Expect only the last bank guarantees, performance bonds on the agreed amount, but this time missing very little. Only the latest details. Ramirez is outside the EU, will serve a work permit to play in England. To that tomorrow will be in Rome for the visa, between Thursday and Friday will be in England.

The medical examination would be expected in Italy, with the staff of the Saints arriving in the next few hours. This time, missing very little ..

Never bought the argument that the Bologna chairman would blink first. Logically we have the stronger hand but when has logic mattered. Ultimately they have the player and many owners have been willing to cut off their noses to spite their faces.

Tancredi Palmeri ‏@tancredipalmeri @sridout92 @dimarziotweet @officialsaints means that,while days ago Saints supposed to take 100%,now they'll go in co-ownership w/ Penarol

I didn't think that was allowed in England???

I think that only applies to individuals owning players like Kia Joorbichan did with Tevez and Mascherano, could be totally wrong though.

I thought we'd already agreed the deal for Penarol's 30%??

Looks like that's changed, so we give that to Bologna to boost the deal to what they want - but don't actually buy the 30% from Panarol. So we only own 70%.

I think that's what's happening anyway.

why do we assume Cortese blinked first. Bolongna wpould say that whatever the truth is! If true and a deal is done at last, we will never no who compomised their position the most!

Nor should we care too much, appears we allegedly "blinked" over a couple million euros we hardly agreed to double the offer or do anything crazy.
