I hope its true. That we really are exploring other options.

If one of those options is Phillips so much the better although Blackpool must know that time is not on our side to prise him away. I have no reservations about Ramirez being a great player but I do wonder about him as a team player and how he fits into the stated aim of the kind of players we should try to sign. The size of the fee and the wages could create selection problems and be a strain on the wages structure that might cause unrest in the dressing room. One player for such a high fee is a lot of eggs in one basket if he was to be injured. I'd be happy to see him in a Saints shirt, but happier to see Matt Phillips or someone similar.

Also, I'm assuming a lot have you have never been to Italy. If they manage to sought the loan out this week then it will have been done quickly. Laziest country in Europe.

If you have been to Italy, which you infer you have, then you would know that Italy is a country split in two economically. The North is the economic powerhouse and has a per capita income level that we would be unable to turn up our noses at. They did not achieve that position through laziness in business matters. The South is largely agricultural and more backward. Bologna is firmly in the North the last time I looked, with a long history as a centre of learning and commerce. I'd even dispute whether the delays in these types of matters was caused by laziness, as bureacracy would probably be the more likely reason.

Anyway, according to this survey in the Guardian, we are lazier than the Italians, so the delay is probably caused by we lazy English, although it might have been lengthened had we not had an Italian chief executive.

Nigel Adkins is next up as he looks ahead to #SaintsFC's first @premierleague home game in over seven years:

Lets hope he lets on a little more today. If he is still coy about it then I think its still on, he usually opens up a little bit more when they fall through.

Rodriguez has just finished the press conf. Told me he doesn't speak Spanish so would struggle to help Gaston.

The players think hes still going to sign?

Maybe we could employ Paul Whitehouse's football manager as an assistant to NA. He could even talk to Rickie in his own language.

He will say something about how the chairman is working hard behind the scenes to try and get deals done and then that will be the end of the transfer talk.

They are not lazy they are broke, the league has lost respect given the match fixing scandels and the general public cannot afford football given the state of the economy. Not quite Greece yet but look at the interest rates on their bonds these days!

We are no doubt working hard behind the scenes to bring in some top targets. It is our endeavour to improve the squad and make the players we already have in the squad the best we possibly can. We have some fantastic training facilities, a first class stadium and what a place to play football.

Guly speaks Spanish, so it's fine.

Does he?

does he?

He is brazilian and has played in Italy, can't see anything to make me think he would speak Spanish

Paulo Gazzaniga - similar age, South American, speaks Spanish. Of course that is no guarantee they will get on with each other, but its a start...

Just finished up with Nigel Adkins. Spoke Gaston, transfer targets & the like. Will report what he said once I have filed #SaintsFC

No closer then I imagine.

Thats funny because...

@solentsport: No news or comment from Nigel Adkins on the progress of any transfer deals. "We're working hard behind the scenes" #saintsfc

Why would NA's generic rent a quote responses mean the deal is any closer? Ramirez could be under the table ****ing him off and he's still say the same thing.

Also, Gazzaniga is from Murphy, Santa Fe in Argentina, and Ramirez is from Fray Bentos in Uruguay, which if my geography serves me right are only about 150 miles apart. They were practically neighbours! (in South American terms... 150 miles is nothing). Besides that irrelevance, Uruguayans and Argentines share basically the same culture, and they are similar ages and share similar experiences (coming to Europe young to play football), so I would say there is a fair chance they will get on :-)

Most Brazilians can speak Spanish, all can understand it - Portuguese and Spanish are very similar languages, though Portuguese is more complex, so generally Portguese speakers can understand/speak Spanish (or at the very least, Portunol), whereas most Spanish speakers struggle with Portuguese.

Only Brazilians south of Sao Paolo generally speak Spanish according to my mate Carlos, when in Brazil in Rio and Sao Paolo no bugger understood us in English or Spanish...and we was told they would! Hand signals where the order of the day generally!

I lived in Brazil for 6 months in Belo Horizonte and visited many parts of the country, including Sao Paulo (where Guly is from), Curitiba and Rio, and all understood my (Argentine) Spanish. Maybe Carlos speaks Spanish from Spain and they had problems understanding that? I also deal with Brazilian tourists most days in Buenos Aires and they all understand me in Spanish. Though maybe those from further north in Brazil or more remote areas might not, I guess.

Skintsaint, while you are here, I'll use my last post of the day to repeat this: Please make me a full member again (or let an admin know if you can't do that as a mod). I paid my renewed subscription via PayPal ages ago. Thanks!

Nigel Adkins is hopeful that #SaintsFC will be "very active" in the transfer market before the window closes next week.

BBC Sport: A hacker is being blamed for breaking into Real Madrid's club website and creating a profile page for Croatia international Luka Modric. The 26-year-old is being heavily linked with a transfer to the Bernabeu but remains a Tottenham player.

Full story: Metro

Maybe someone should do the same and people on this thread will stop biting each others heads off.
