Brinkmanship in the extreme from the Italians , if as has been reported they are strapped for cash they will do the deal eventually , I dont believe they will let us walk away IMHO.

There are a number of companies with agreements with high end banks (investec one ) who will factor deferred transfer fees and Parachute payments. However the contracts are complex and dont take two minutes to sign up and agree .

If they want to factor the Payments from Saints they can but they should be doing it after completing the deal not simultaneously , potentially this may be Corteses reasoning for giving a cut off time .

The Southampton and 'pushed up the offer of 10 million for the talented Uruguayan Bolognese but it takes 15. It continues to be treated.

Southampton does not give Gaston Ramirez. After the reverse of Bologna, now the Saints have upped the ante reaching more than 10 million. The Rossoblu are shaking even if the distance with 15 million of the initial request and not yet 'been filled.

Bologna keep moving the goalposts if you ask me. Seem like a bunch of amateurs to me. They set a fee and then go oh hang on that means we only get this much after agents fees and stuff. Do your maths and sort it out you knobs!

So he pretty much said there was a Private Jet waiting to take him to Southampton and then he gave that interview which angered Bologna.

He said Bologna are tough negotiators but they need money and its a lot of money that is on the table and at some point they will probably soften their stance...

We'd better have our fingers crossed that as a young lad he can cope with expectation after all this, if we get him. I would love him to be spectacular but part of me can't help feeling that for a club the size of Saints it's a hell of a lot of money for one young player who has never played in this league and never lived in this country.

Obviously he's got a fantastic reputation there are so many examples of players have come to the Prem with a massive rep and big price tag and just not been able to make an impact, whether down to loss of form, failure to adapt to the style of the league, inability to settle or whatever - Veron (£28.1m), Aquilani (£17m), Luque (£10.5m), Alves (£12.5m), Marlet (£11m), Jo (£16m) and our own dear Tin Man spring to mind.

Obviously there are loads who have come and been brilliant, and not to be pessimistic because I hope we get him and I hope he's amazing, but just slightly concerned that for a club of our size, it's a lot of dosh for a fairly unknown quantity. Let's face it, very few of us have seen him play. Time will tell I guess.

If I only have £15 buy my food for the whole week, I wouldn’t buy steak for the Monday and go hungry for the rest of the week.

If NC wants to waste his whole shopping budget on 1 player then he is more of a fool than we all thought

Is this our whole budget? Says who?

NC is a lot of things but a fool isn't one of them.

After yesterday and in a bid to aid the mods, I'm going to attempt to ignore anyone hypothesising about this sort of thing. Guessing what's going on with the transfers etc can be fun but when people claim things about our own club of which they have absolutely no proof then they probably don't deserve a response. I'd be be worried if it was our whole budget, but we just don't know how much the club are willing to spend.

"1. No deal is structured as the whole amount upfront"

Yes, a lot are. Ronaldo to Real for instance.

It is unusual to pay all upfront and not the norm! Maybe we dont have enough money for all out transfers if all our deposits go in one tranche! Anyway we know Bologna need money and no one else is going to pay up- front so why should we! The longer the clock ticks the better our offer looks!

To be honest, we had so many ''reported'' deadlines in the Rodriguez and Jack Cork details, so I don't think there are deadlines as such. He's such a massive player so if they do relax their demands then we're not going to say no. I imagine we've just made it clear we'll look at other targets, but the door will never slam shut on this completely.

It will only when and if we sign an alternative

Why are people saying this is going on a long time? It's only been about a week, surely that's not such long time? It just seems longer because some people are spending their whole days obsessing over it.

The longer this thread goes on, the less I find myself minding if we get him or not, I've enjoyed watching saints without him and I'm sure I'll continue to. At least now we've got some idea of what Saints are prepared to spend on the right player.

So much has been delivered in the last three years, I'm happy with how things have been done. So far Adkins has done a good job with the team and Cortese has done a good job helping him build a good team. I don't really get what there is to complain about. I'd be delighted if the club carries on just like it has been, thanks.

I would argue that only a small number of large value transfers are paid upfront and do you have any evidence that the fee for Ronaldo was paid upfront as I can't seem to locate any either way.

@gullibleMongs Bolognese announcement at Ramirez offer accepted but southampton cortese man big asshole he say too late so deal off the Southampton chase kitson instead

What a complete grade one **** you are. Always attacking other posters instead of offering your own opinions. Why you've not been banned from the site is beyond me - you've broken every rule in the book and still you get to post insults.

Interesting to listen to that interview from the Italian journalist.

I hope Cortese has set them a deadline to make a decision and walks away if they continue to play games. I dont think we can afford to wait for the last minute on the 31st Aug whilst Bologna see if any other club will offer them a better deal.

If the deadline is set now and they prefer to take the risk, we can work on other players.

Either way, lets face it, Cortese will know what he's doing. I'm quite happy to have him conducting these type of negotiations.

Imagine if the gods of mankind wiped out the human race and deleted the internet with a view to starting again. Now imagine the horror on their faces when they realised they forgot the burn a printout of this thread, it was discovered tucked behind a bin in john lewis, west quay (which survived judgement day). The next generation of mankind would be influenced by the heated debate and nonsensical whitterings of the 0.7% of our fanbase that blindly believe everything they read.

Before you post, take a breath and consider the consequences.

Can people stop saying his deal is off ffs. It was supposed to be off 3 days ago... and yet here we all at reading comments relating to the player from numerous sources. if its off, why are the clubs/agent still releasing comments. It cab ONLY be posturing. There for this story still has legs and is crawl in along. Will it learn to walk though. Personally I think we are interested, we can afford it, and if push comes to shove we will step up. However NC is playing hard ball and defending saints' interests.

Also, I'm assuming a lot have you have never been to Italy. If they manage to sought the loan out this week then it will have been done quickly. Laziest country in Europe.

Deal is off - Skysports.com

According to an article dated yesterday.

I get a feeling that there are so many games being played that we'll never know for sure if/when things have definitively fallen through, the only conclusion that could be utterly defined would be the succesful conclusion of a transfer.

Thats true considering the amount of time we had to wait for Papa Waigo's international clearance and Guly's wasnt exactly the quickest either!

The deal is off - bored.com

Welcome back from planet Zog. We've all moved on from those stories. Try and keep up.

Given that Bologna are also raising the ante by suggesting Inter are interested - does that mean we could go for Alverez or (even better) Coutinho instead?

I thought I would try and look back through the records to see how many pages the Skacel affair took but sadly, I think this was before the whole history of the site was wiped a few years ago so I cant seem to find it.

I did however stumble across a few thread title gems which made me laugh and thought I would share one particular one with you all to take a step away from the Ramirez saga.

I thought I could make it into a little game of sorts. Now no cheating now, you only cheat yourself, so no looking for it but who was the author of the following thread dated the middle of July 2010 (with a whopping 1 month and 15 days before the transfer window closed!)

'Brutally honest, forget it's me posting this, who is disappointed in our transfers'

10 SWF points up for grabs for the first correct answer.... Go!

As I thought. I know it's hard to keep up with but surely don't bother posting any links that we already may have done to death. Check it first or don't bother.

Well done, 10 SWF points to you.

I would like to point out he hasnt stopped beating that same drum 2 years down the line.

Do you now realise what a twonk you look like Alpine when we were promoted that very season you whinged like a little girl? As well as the season after then.

Maybe you should save your bed wetting for after the season has finished if we do not happen to do well, and starting a thread like 'Do you think our lack of quality transfers this season was the reason we struggled?' otherwise you just end up looking like a right div.... AGAIN.

It's laughable how you started that thread in July though but here we are 2 years later and you're doing the same again, albeit slightly later. Do you not understand most business is conducted at the end of the window?
