This does make sense. its all reaching a point where they have no options - no other clubs on the horizon...if they want the money....

I reckon we're probably fairly confident that no other club is going to match our offer. He's not going to go to one of the very top sides and not many other clubs have that sort of money at the moment.

The media is clearly being used as a way to try and force the hand of one of the clubs. Whether this will work remains to be seen but to say it's over anytime between now and the 31st is simply not likely to be true.

Bologna want to sell the player. His agent now quoted as saying he will stay at Bologna.

They don't want him to stay...they need the money from his sale.

No other offers for him apart from the Saints one which he wants...

Would the agent out these quotes out if it was really off? I would imagine Ramirez would be very angry at missing out on a quadruple your salary move...

Lawro's "He will never go to Southampton" was pretty much a throwaway line, which happened to be a lucky guess. Lawro doesn't have much of an inside track these days. He's only as good as the knowledge his researchers feed him.

Don't ascribe him too much knowledge. As a pundit, he is paid to respond to questions, and just struck lucky with this.

As for Nixon, he's more likely to have his ear to the ground, although questions need to be asked if you can trust his information.

Although a freelance journalist, he's a shareholder in Paul Stretford's former agency. He hears lots of agent gossip, and is fed a lot of information with the intention of planting it into the media. For this reason, a lot of newspapers don't use him.

He gets a lot of big stories right, but he gets just as many wrong. People tend not to remember the ones he got wrong.

It's just bluffing. Bologna need to sell him, we want to buy him.

His agent coming out and saying it's broken down is probably a ploy to take some media interest off the deal so we can get it done quietly. Hell, Cortese may have even asked him to do it!

Fact is, we have the money to conclude the deal. They need the money. Everything else is Bologna arsing around. Hopefully they'll realise the urgency of the matter and all 3 parties can leave happy.

I took the agents comments as a way of saying to Bologna, "Look, there is no other interest on the horizon. Take the offer or he will be staying with you (which they don't want)".

So on this thread we've gone from believing Sky & BBC reports, to believing 2nd rate UK tabloid journalists, to believing 2nd rate Italian tabloid journalists, to scraping the barrel believing agents......what next? believing that the PFC numbers do actually add up?

Yep.

It sounds to me like Bologna need the transfer to go through a lot more more than us, and we're their only option.

Cortese is probably saying "Final Offer" and quoting a 24-hour deadline right now - if he hasn't already done so. If it isn't announced in the next 24 hours we'll walk away. Right now, time is our friend - leave this much longer and it won't be.

People are busy believing what they want to hear. Leave them alone.

The fact his agent has said it's dead and those close to Saints say it's dead is irrelevant as it's not what we want to hear.

This has got to be a bluff right? How many deals collapse because of financial problems at the SELLING club. Were trying to give them £12 mil not the other way round FFS. It's getting silly now.

I guess were going to take that gamble I mentioned earlier about another club coming in then because if we're sure they want to sell, as the clock runs down how are they really going to decline it.

It's a ****** up world we live in if a club can't give £12 mil to another because THEY have financial problems. Bloody stupid.

I think some of us are just willing to accept that some transfers go like this, bluff and counter bluff. I'm not saying it's not off but could just be a tactic to force a move. Some of us just have open minds without believing either the negative or positive rumours with the blind faith of a religious zealot.

sauce? sorry...

source?

Simon Peach and Peter White both reported very similar things at almost the same time, clearly tipped off by someone close to Saints...opposite view to Bologna and Saints have their own agenda but interesting and by no means deal off.

Peter White ‏@peterwhite_1

Saints deal for Ramirez nearly done Fee agreed but there is still a problem because cash strapped Bologna want all of fee. More.. #saintsfc

Peter White ‏@peterwhite_1

Bologna trying to secure loan and pay back as Saints pay them. NC not happy and set to give ultimatum, agree now or deal off! #saintsfc

Peter White ‏@peterwhite_1

@supmarkus Bologna on brink cash wise and need the £12million just to ensure survival #saintsfc

Simon Peach ‏@SimonPeach

#SaintsFC & Bologna have agreed a fee & payment plan for Ramirez. The hold up is because the Rossoblù are trying to sort out their finances.

Simon Peach ‏@SimonPeach

#SaintsFC have also sorted out agreement with Ramirez's former club Penarol for their 30%. Hold up is Bologna messing around with finances.

Simon Peach ‏@SimonPeach

If #SaintsFC get messed around by Bologna & the deal collapses, there are other targets on the radar. I think it'll go through, though.

Simon Peach ‏@SimonPeach

Ramirez negotiations "definitely ended" & #SaintsFC looking elsewhere says his agent. I'd suggest games are being played & it's still on.

'not saying it's not off' - just trying to work that out.

So if it's not a bluff it's a good example of fiscal prudence. We have a budget for this transfer window...we have identified targets and how we're going to pay for them. Bologna come along agree a fee but want us to blow our budget to buy one player by throwing our planned payment schedule out of the window. NC and NA have always said deals will be done when in the interest of SFC.

Ahh "fiscal prudence" there's a concept not often heard at the eastern end of the M27.

Deal is still on. This was just tweeted

@therealmarklawrenson looks like I was wrong about Ramirez, he'll be a Southampton player by the weekend.

Turks, for the record, are you now a happy clapper or are you still fulfilling that role in a sarcastic honorary way? :)

Odd that Turkish. Especially coming from a man who famously called Twitter uses sad during this summer.

He must have had a volte face on tweeting. Either that or....

Spot on, and Bologna's chairman is trying to do what's best for them. My gut feeling (based on nothing at all) is that provided nobody else comes in for him, we will get our man as quite clearly Bologna have to sell. The problem we may have is that as the Transfer window starts to close other clubs panic. I can see someone like QPR who seem to be throwing money around agreeing to better terms for payment than us. NC may stick to his fiscal prudence but in the mad world of football there's always a chance somebody wont stick to theirs, so I can quite understand their chairman playing hard ball. The good news is that it doesn't look like the big boys are sniffing around yet.
