If I am gathering this right, which I may not be as all the stuff above is a bit confusing, but if we paid 10 million Euros to loan him for a season and then 5 million Euros to buy him outright, then we have to pay what his CURRENT contract stipulates. We can't pay him anymore because that would mean he has a contract with both teams, which is not legal.

No, they would appear to be trying to secure a financial loan from a bank, to the value of the total we will pay them instalments, based on our promise/contract to pay them. Which I guess is where their request for proof of funds came from, as a request from their bank regarding the loan? They sound like they need cash desperately.

Sounds to me like the negotiations have made good progress.

Yesterday Bologna wanted more upfront so they could buy a replacement and NC wouldn't budge.

Today it seems like Bologna are saying "OK, we'll go with your payment plan but at least let us get a loan to help us buy a replacement". Seems like a good compromise and I can't imagine the guarantees being a real sticking point. Although that does mean we are somewhat reliant on Bologna actually using our money to pay off the loan, as otherwise we could potentially be liable for Bologna's loan payments despite having already paid our instalments for the transfer. Can we trust them?

From the sounds of the reports Bologna have blinked first.

just needs a little blue pill to get it ;)

(sorry, couldn't resist)

So, we have a page full of people arguing about whether Phil still has it or not. Please keep this thread on topic, i.e the player we are linked to. Thanks

Ummmmm!!! Mike, Mike, Mike, can we stay on topic please ;)

I doubt we are expecte dto be the guarrantor of a bologna loan - will never happen if that is the case - more that bolognas bank want to see evidence that Saints will be pating bologna and not defaulting so Bologna do not default... if it really is a case that bolgna want us to guarrantee tehir loan eg become liable - then this is dead - and rightly so

#SaintsFC have also sorted out agreement with Ramirez's former club Penarol for their 30%. Hold up is Bologna messing around with finances.

If #SaintsFC get messed around by Bologna & the deal collapses, there are other targets on the radar. I think it'll go through, though.

Didn't Poopey **** Bologna off in the pass with unpaid installments for Anthony Vanden Borren?

They definitely managed to sign, play and sell Sulley Muntari at a profit whilst defaulting on numerous repayments to Udinese, I know that for sure as they were heftily mentioned on the original CVA list of football creditors.

Not sure any of this is down to Saints as much as Bologna needing to repay a loan they haven't taken out yet. Apparently.

I agree and think his time at the BBC are numbered.he comes across as a old fogey.

Whole Beeb team are crap. Utterly incapable of critical analysis. Much too pally with each other, and offer no real insight.

Lawro is the worst of the lot. I remember sitting in a black cab half-cut going into Liverpool. Taxi driver asks my mate where he's from, who says "Runcorn" (town just outside accepted scouse jurisdiction). Taxi driver says "you hit the crossbar there, lad".

Lawro has hit the cross-bar his whole life. He knows he messed up by playing for the Republic, which informs most of his misery during England games. Will always be a question mark over his quality. His only real success in life came as part of the all-conquering LFC team, but he made less than a fringe player does now.

Basically a miserable get, which I have no problem with. Just wish he confined himself to a cave instead of being given licence payer's cash to depress a nation.

"10.48 BST: Southampton hope to complete the signing of Gaston Ramirez from Bologna despite delays in the move caused by the selling club's financial problems. It is understood that a fee and payment plan have been negotiated for the 21-year-old Uruguay winger, who will cost the Saints a record £12 million, but it is understood Bologna are attempting to secure a loan against the repayments."

Looks like all sites are reporting the same thing, hopefully we have a new player by tomorrow

If only NC sorted his ego out, bologna might not be in such a financial mess

It coiuld well be me but this is 'Double Dutch'. What on earth has NC's ego (if he has one!) got to do with any mess Bologna might be in? Please explain further.

Just this time yesterday, the usual moaners were so sure the deal was off, NCs ego was getting the better of him, we can't close a deal and we are just chasing fantasy targets to please fans but have no intention of signing them

And on and on and on

Does this mean we're in agreement? If so, I shall commission the commemorative statue immediately.

Mousse81: @StannersSFC Lack of warranties and too many % to give to agents and to Penarol. Chairmans are still speaking but the deal is so far now

Among the most ardent supporters of no to the Saints - perhaps because they understand the inability to adequately replace it - there is a dg rossoblù Roberto Zanzi: "There were new and in the absence of precise guarantees on payments Ramirez does not move, there are too many parties. The negotiation was not conducted in a linear manner and there are a number of factors that do not convince us. " Or all those small percentages that would make a dent in the cleaning of the Saints 15 million (5% of the Fund on international transfers, commission agents and various intermediaries, the role of the Penarol who had already given the green light to the sale to Southampton) and above all the guarantees necessary to avoid being scalded in a year as was the case with Osvaldo Espanyol.

In all this, Ramirez continues to train separately, not exactly a high pace: yesterday even took a long time to fiddle and dribble with one of the sons of Diego Perez on the sideline. "The player is very disappointed," filtered by the staff of the player, because the Saints had offered the beauty of almost three million a year for four seasons and this is going to fade. But some stories, you know, they never end

Wouldn't worry too much about the 'corriere'. Seems bologna have been feeding them info throughout to put pressure on us.

That mousse chap actually works close with bologna too if I recall correctly.

As Adkins says, let's not get too high or too low. Think by tommorow, we'll have a decision.

INTER JUVENTUS Football EXCLUSIVE AGENT RAMIREZ explain everything / ROME - The name of Gaston Ramirez in this session of transfers has been linked to several teams, but on September 1 may still be with the shirt of Bologna. After being in the crosshairs of 'Inter for a long time, the player was a step away from Southampton, but then the deal is skipped for the lack of agreement between the companies. Calciomercatoweb.it has interviewed Oscar Betancourt, agent of the player to clarity on what happened: "The negotiations with Southampton is definitely missed, I spoke today with the president of the English club and are turning to other goals. Bologna did not want to close the transaction in the matters of the guarantees. Player was very happy with the proposal received, but now in all likelihood will remain at Bologna. Tottenham is a hypothesis to be rejected at the time because they are away from the demands of rossoblu and Liverpool has never presented a concrete offer. "

Or Twitter full-stop. It's extremely telling that all of the "he's not signing" tweets are coming from Italy.

Hang on, so if a professional sportsman who is being left in the dark by his current club (Bologna) is seen to kick a ball around with a young kid, he is seen as disinterested and not worthy of our club?

WTF? Are all of you insane? All he was doing was kicking a ball around with a kid. He's not gonna get games with Bologna it seems. OK, he could be working harder on the training paddock, but for FFS how can anyone say 'this isn't the sort of player we want at our club' based on this one piece of evidence. IF we sign him (unlikely), and he isn't match fit (likely), then all he needs is a bit of fitness training, and all of a sudden you have a player who will play 100% come match day.

Or am I the one who is insane?

So we have a massive game of financial brinkmanship between Cortes and the Chairman of a club who are doing a passable impression of Skate bookkeeping being played out on two fronts. In private and in public media in an attempt to force more juice from the deal.

I know who I trust to do best by our club, better to stand firm rather then make a precedent for being a soft touch.
