It's definitely over

Hypo said so, he also is a veteran on these sort of threads

He's like a wise old wizard, the oracle of SWF transfer threads.

I will summon him later today for his thoughts on this latest development. Only a man with his knowledge and experience will be able to decipher what this all means

Thought you might like a summary of the player from the Italian point of view ...it was written / published 28 July in the Corriere dello sport.

ROMA - Caccia aperta a Gastón Exequiel Ramírez Pereyra, centrocampista d’attacco, sinistro naturale.

My translation: Open season for Gaston Exequiel Ramirez Pereyra, naturally left footed attacking midfielder. twenty two years old on 2nd December. The Bologna ace is in the top ten most wanted. The list of suitors is long ~: Liverpool, Inter, Juve, Napoli, Wolfsburg, Man City....and his price is rising. The original $13.5M euros to buy him, having previously joined Bologna fronm Peneral for $3m euros is no longer enough, his price has now risen to between $15-$16million euros. They have bases covered as his conteract is until june 2016. Boliogna will hold out - but theres a qyueue for Ramirez! The players agent is Diego Triguero, registered in Spain and hes got his calculator ready to hand! Ramirez is the emerging star of the squad, the next golden child in the number ten shirt.

Sounds like unless this gets done today, on Bologna's part, it doesn't get done at all

Cortese is basically saying, we dont give a f**k if you want to get a bank loan with our money, were offering it to you, take it or leave it. And he's right to do so, they're ****ing us about

Whatever happens i cant see them turning down 15m euro's, whether they need a bank loan or not

It all comes out in the wash eventually. Just makes me glad that deal or no deal we have NC acting on our behalf and not some of the tools on here who think they know it all with multi million pound deals sat behind their keyboard with their trousers round their ankles.

DL_corriere: @Zoggers87 @Mousse81 what we know is saints offered €10mln for 2012-2013 loan + €5mln to complete the transfer next summer but bfc refused

Ah ha. So THIS is the crux of the matter.

One year loan with an option to buy.

NC covering his financial arse in case we get relegated. Bolgna think they are getting the deal they want but then find that getting an advance on that option to buy becomes the issue.

Of course NO idea on the accuracy of this quoted tweet, but it again helps to make some sense of the comings and goings

I think that the world-wide repurcussions of this purchase add value from NC's perspective. Ramirez is an International "name" player already at a young age. He is the playmaker for the 3rd/4th best team in world football - Uruguay and i think Nicola sees him as an emerging world superstar along the lines of others from Seria A in recent years such as Cavani, Lavezzi, Hamsik, Inler Menez etc.

With Ramirez in the team and any level of EPL success we have got a lot more chance of attracting and developing a world class squad. Cortese is playing high stakes to puit Saints right up there on the top branches - and this is EXACTLY the kind of purchase to do that...as is Tadanari Lee btw...its all very logical if you view it that way.

What!!!!!!!!!

It's not a loan in that sense, he is being offered a four year contract. My understanding is that Bologna wand us to guarantee the money so as they can take out a loan. You have now muddied the waters.

I think that would be more for Bologna's benefit, he remains their player until paid for.

Odd if true.

10 million euros for a one year loan? What if it doesn't work out and we don't want to but him after a year?

Just look at Inter Milan - sold Silva and Ibrahimovic to PSG - 7 days after Silva had signed a new contract with them. The money is gone from Italian football at the mo and Bologna could never ever say no to this kind of money and NC knows this.

Getting a loan with Saints money as security - sounds like really dangerous stuff to be involved with. But still think this deal will happen now.

By Inter you mean AC yes?

bologna want to take out a loan based on the overall transfer fee (minus slice given to players old club) so they can buy players immediately. the loan will then be secured against repayments by saints. so it seems we are just waiting for bologna to get a loan approved then its a done deal however they have just 24 hours to get this done as cortesi unhappy with being messed around. other targets will be pursued if no resolution today.

TBH this place is full of people who can't speak Italian using google translate and then trying to make sense of the oddities it throws up. Very easy in this case to read something into the wording that isn't really there. If you look at some examples of this that people were posting yesterday, this morning's news from British journo's fits. It's Not a million miles from what was being speculated on last night, the only difference seems to be that the bank issue seems to be with Bologna's rather than Saints'.

Doesn't sound so positive, but this does at least suggest that Bologna are very interested to sell. Will they blink? Or will Cortese slam the door shut, lock it and throw away the key.

This seems to be the issue, why we're going round in circles again already this morning is beyond me.

You're not alone there mate

I really dislike the man. I did consider dropping the enmity, but listening him wail on about "same old England" during the Euros and his assurances that Gaston won't be coming to Southampton topped all my Lawro bile reserves right back up.

I'm also old enough to remember him saying "I fear for Southampton" at the beginning of each Prem season. Blert.

If we are successful in landing Ramirez, someone should do a YouTube compilation vid entitled "Lawro tells it how it isn't". Plenty of material.

Why? Up to us what we pay him. Its just a technicality in the payment instalment terms.

If I am gathering this right, which I may not be as all the stuff above is a bit confusing, but if we paid 10 million Euros to loan him for a season and then 5 million Euros to buy him outright, then we have to pay what his CURRENT contract stipulates. We can't pay him anymore because that would mean he has a contract with both teams, which is not legal.

B-b-b-but how did you know?

RE: The Ramirez situation, I'm not letting myself get het up about it. If we pull this off, and the Phillips transfer, then fantastic, I'll be fapping myself dry over it. My primary concern is that we've not signed ANYBODY for ages, and you could conceivably argue that we still need 1 GK, 2 CB's, 1 LB, 2 Wingers and possibly (if I were manager, which I'm as glad as you that I'm not) even another ST. I'm sure some of these will be addressed though by next Friday, but that deadline is creeping up. Deadline day will be interesting though.

(Oh, my secondary concern is why my SaintWeb subscription was declined. Full of murderous rage...)
