It seems when dealing with clubs that won't be bullied our conversion rate is spectacularly bad.

Haha, I seem to remember us signing and entire squad and then some over the last 3 years. Good job our conversation rate is spectacularly bad otherwise we would have around 200 players by now.

Yet here we are with 8 working days of the transfer window, the manager clearly wanting to sign at least one if not two centre backs and wingers all summer and we're still looking around for them. Add to this two top players with their bags packed set to join and for bizarre reasons both deals fall through. Yep, its all everyone else's fault.

Don't panic Turkish, we'll be alright come end of transfer window. Nasty Nic isn't all bad.

Ok, let's just take a breather here for a second.

I think a hell of a lot is being lost in translation here, it's easy for things to sound ''certain'' when it's not in translation.

Let's basically go through what we know for sure.

1 - the player wants to join saints

2 - we have agreed contract length and terms with the player

3 - Bolonga want 15m euro's

4 - There is a discrepancy how we pay the money, in terms of over a period of time

5 - Spurs and Liverpool have signed (or are looking at) alternative targets

6 - Gaston has all but burnt bridges at Bolonga, they are looking at alternative players and want to reinvest the money

All in all - I don't think much has changed today. As we edge nearer the window we will get a clearer picture. It's clear that Bolonga are mucking around a bit as they are in the strong position at the moment, but as we get closer to the end of the window you have to think that we have the stronger hand. They have no better offers, the player wants to go and they want the money.

Nothing is decided either way yet, let's wait and see.

Let me just rehash this again to bring it back to topic. State of play as I see it.

So, we haven't signed Ramirez yet.

Hey ho. Life goes on. My own view is he probably isn't worth £15m or whatever (slipping to £16m or £17m to "get it over the line")

I still wonder if Turkish will be right about our overall outlay this window being less than £20m (was that the claim?).

I think he'll probably be wrong, but let's see.

Do you think you could all stop posting utter crap so people who want to catch up don't have to wade through it all just to find out if anything's actually happened ? There are TWO forums for tw^tting about, go and use them.

It's only idle chit chat while the adverts are on :D

You'll know if 'owt has happened when the thread title changes to "Official" & "Signed". Or another thread starts titled "who's fault is it he didn't come".

Always the way on here the further you get away from the OP the more Chinese Whispers subject change creeps in.

You seem rather obsessed with this point as this is the second time you've mentioned it this week. I hope I am wrong. Time will tell. I didn't realise until Sunday that Adkins net spend as manager is only £3m so I don't now think £20m is that unrealistic a figure.

I have to agree for once with Roger!

Thanku. The9 is mr have a go constantly at our best player who has been responsible more than anyone IMO for being where we are. Anyway I promise I will talk about Ramirez now. I think cortese is being sensible.

Thanks mate - To add to yours: My post earlier with the (poor) google translation seemed to suggest that Ramirez is training alone which validates 6? I maybe wrong. He wants out now as do Bologna whom we now know have a history of financial woe and have been stung before - hence their reticence?

Assuming they are of course even interested still, Spurs and Liverpool have to also meet the same demands (this bankers guarantee/12 month payment business), Spurs could apparently agree to this (whether they got that far could be disputed as we clearly were given permission to talk to him prior to agreeing a fee/package. Spurs couldn't agree personal terms with Gaston (and are now looking elsewhere, e.g. possibly Willian and with Adebayor signed up, you'd think that might be them sorted up top?). Similarly, Liverpool need to sell (Carroll) to buy but with Rodgers and the influence of Suarez and Coates I think are our biggest rivals. I saw the Citeh link as well but I think with Sinclair rumoured to be heading there this probably is just a 2+2=5.

Penarol are reportedly happy with their share (1.5 million... pounds, euros, dollars or friggin rupees I don't know) but there has been some conjecture over agents fees and that with Penarol, agents, installments and bank guarantees it has all got a bit complicated. I read a story about the "real price" of RVP the other day which detailed how complex these packages are - I guess this has more issues than any deal that we've been involved with before now? Considering our MO is keep it quiet 'til it's done, I don't think I've ever seen so much detail about the figure, length of term of installments, wages etc out in the open.

I think there's no denying he'll be off this window - it won't be a deadline day job at SOU airport will it?! Cripes, Sky would have a field day.... You're damned if you do, damned if you don't - if we go for promising Champ players we're not ambitious enough and when we go for a top drawer player we're overly ambitious and wasting our time!

El Southampton está cerca de cerrar el fichaje de Gaston Ramirez en £ 18M

Translation: The Southampton is close to close the signing of Gaston Ramirez at £ 18M

Nothing new, that's just a random spanish twitter rumour feed. Just feeding of tabloid stories.

Ha ha. Almost perfect, but you correctly used capitals at the start of the sentence and for his name.

So does that mean we're twice as close to signing him as before? How do I change my vote at the top of the page from No to Yes??

59 pages, Jesus! Think a lot of people need to just chill the **** out and use their time on other things! For what i can see (admittedly i may have missed something in this ridiculous thread), nothing has really happened today. I really don't understand the obsession with wanting to know every single turn in a potential transfer.

Maybe the opening post in this thread should give updates on where the transfer is at. I.e. if the player or anyone from either club comes out and says something, or an important tweet etc. I've logged in twice today to check for updates, and on both occasions it's be virtually impossible to sift through page after page of utter ********!

From what most italian journos have said we need to prove we can afford the installments of the deal thats the hold up, from that it seems we have agreed a fee and how we will pay now just the proof that we CAN and WILL pay it.

They must be getting us confused with another south coast club.

Nixon says the Italian journos are talking "total trash".

He said "So you're skint? Aye, right. Total trash."

Who's to say that it is us doing the bullying? It may be that other clubs are trying to bully us and we are simpley gholding our ground, which if that means that deals fall through then so be it. I'd rather we didn't not sign player if there are doubts the deal isn't going to be good for us. As I've mentioend before, you only have to look east to see what happens when you get good players on bad deals.

You bang the same happy clappy Cortese Cuddling drum. Ramirez won't happen, we had a chance and cocked it up. We can't provide a bankers draft because there is no money, I've heard we might have to return Jay Rod to Burnley because the money just isn't there. Falque set to return as a cheap option and we will probably target Bignall next...FFS. Was so optimistic after the City game but this Ramirez fiasco has damaged my morale.

We have spent more time monging about with electronic advertising boards than signing players.

I had not heard this one - is JRod going back this week or next

Just come back from holiday and was updated well from a forum user.

My take on this is Cortese wants a big signing to get us to the next level and he will sign one before the deadline.

I believe we will fork out 15m tops but they must be in our wage bracket of 40k or less.

Perhaps we tried for Walcott but his wages would of been way too high, add Johnson from City & Pienarr to the list of wanting too much wages.

A few names are cropping up like Tella/Biagla (whatever the name) we are looking very hard to bring in a real crowd pleaser and if we miss out on Ramirez then someone else will come.

IMHO Lens is the one we will end up with after Ramirez.

Have to remember we live in a different time to when we were last in the PL.

We live in a news 24/7 world with social media meaning if anything happens at anytime it will be all over the web.

Pretty sure loads of deals go tits up at every club its just we hear more about them now through things like twitter.

Nothing to be worried about or think we are a unique case.

I voted yes in the poll. Bologna are just "giving it", as we Flower Estate types like to say (silent trailing g's and t's, naturally). It's very easy to create a sh!tstorm online, and probably worth it if it puts pressure on a club to agree to your terms. I have no doubt that they're feeding stories to reputable Italian journalists, who'll happily translate and regurgitate for unwitting would-be Twitter followers. Bit of disinformation well covered by a few million euros net gain.

We're playing chicken with the Bolognese, who in turn, are playing chicken with the transfer deadline. There are no confirmed bids save ours. This transfer saga may rumble on a while longer and they've drummed up old suitors. Everyone seems ready to make a bid but no-one has actually made a bid. If this thing gets through the rest of the day without a confirmed bid from a European qualifier, their flush is completely busted.

If not, I'll be proved wrong - and will fulfil my forfeit in good grace. But I've a cheeky suspicion that "the cheeky f*ckers are just giving it". Ah, roots.

I ain't bothered about one player. Far rather keep King Rickie and his crew happy than upset the apple cart.

I thinking this way too. I think I would prefer we spent our money else where, on young players with potential like Clyne who will demand less wages.

I think we are just being used here to drive up the price/wages until a suitably large, 'proper' club (Liverpool) comes along. Unfortunately Mark Dickhead Lawrenson knows this. Similar to the Buttner fiasco where the 'Third Man' was probably one of Fergie's henchmen having a quiet word.

Meanwhile QPR seem to be able to sign anybody they like fairly quickly - I would have thought we would be a more attractive proposition - just the Mark Hughes factor and a few more quiet words from Fergie??

I just purchased Ramirez on FM12 in two days for 6m quid....think I should get involved and do the haggling.

Seriously though, I expect him to be a Saints player by the end of the month, if anyone else wanted him they would of jumped in by now.
