  1. 1. Ramirez, will he sign Y/N

If we want him, we'll have to and clubs can do multiple signings at any one time.

Confused by the general thoughts that only one transfer can be done at a time. We don't just have Cortese negotiating. He'll have the final say, but we have resources.

This, and Adkins has already said he is happy to wait til the last day if it means the quality is high.

If the alternative was still available that could happen but all the eggs in one basket could backfire. I saw Uruguay Olympic team three times and the only one that I noticed was Suarez probably because I knew of him. That team underperformed and failed to qualify and I don't recollect Ramirez standing out. I'm happy to pass on this one.

You can't judge him one 3 games in an tournament. You really can't.

The guy is a top, top player. That comes from Bolonga fans, their journalists and the proof of the clubs tracking him (other than us!). Of course we can't be sure if he'll be a massive success here, but you can't really pass this up because he didn't stand out in 3 games you watched.

I'm happy to have him if he does sign.

Surprised you don't see his quality. Have you read some of the articles linked here talking through his attributes? Sounds perfect for us. Especially seeing as we still want a winger too.

If he signs he signs. If he was that good where are all the big clubs, Italian, Spanish and Premier giants. At £12m he would be a snip, It doesn't add up. We are the only bidders. I don't buy Spurs wouldn't match our wages. He might turn out to everybody's expectations, it's just that it doesn't stack up for me.

Maybe because other clubs don't particularly need a player like him? We do, which is why we're in for him. Spurs and Liverpool needed wide players which is why they also tried. They obviously set their valuation on him and that was that.

Clubs in Italy cannot afford him, full stop. That's come from plenty of italian journalists - and Gaston himself.

Big clubs probably like him, but big clubs have players similar to him all over their team. The fact they don't want him doesn't mean he's a rubbish player.

He's just a name to me. I haven't seen his quality just heard opinions. Obviously he is a decent player but the thing that worries me is the reports that this is a Cortese initiative. The last one from Spurs turned out to be a 45 min cameo because it was the first time Adkins had seen him.

Reading up on Bologna FC they appear to need cash or a buyout every few years.

....On 14 April 2009, Giuseppe Papadopulo was appointed as the new manager, and successfully managed to raise the team spirit avoiding relegation to Serie B only in the last match of the season. In the 2009–10 season, Bologna played in Serie A for the 65th time, and escaped relegation again despite financial issues under new head coach Franco Colomba.

In June 2010, a club takeover was completed, with the club being sold by the Menarini family to Sardinian enterpreneur Sergio Porcedda. Franco Colomba was sacked right before the 2010–11 season opener on 29 August 2010, despite surviving relegation with the team in the 2009–10 season. The president of the club, Sergio Porcedda, said that the decision was made mostly "because he [Colomba] was skeptical of the team."

The consortium "Bologna 2010"

On 23 December 2010, the consortium Bologna 2010 led by banker Giovanni Consorte and coffee businessman Massimo Zanetti acquired the club from Sergio Porcedda, after the latter failed to pay wages for the club during his short-tenured ownership and put Bologna in threaten of bankruptcy. The company also owed agent fee to Leonardo Corsi in the Andrea Raggi's transfer. Zanetti also became the new club chairman, with popular Italian musician and long-time Bologna supporter Gianni Morandi appointed as honorary president.

On 21 January 2011, President Massimo Zanetti and CEO Luca Baraldi, after only 28 days, resigned because of irreconcilable differences with the other personal and financial partners. The new director general is Stefano Pedrelli. For 76 days, the president is Marco Pavignani.

Since 7 April 2011, after the resignation of Pavignani and having paid €2.5 millions of capital increase, the new president is Albano Guaraldi, the second largest shareholder of the consortium "Bologna 2010" with the 17% of the quotas, behind the outgoing Zanetti.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bologna_F.C._1909

When the largest shareholder (Zanetti) took over he said

Massimo Zanetti has explained his buyout of Bologna.

The Segafredo coffee magnate completed the takeover at the weekend, heading a group of local investors who dug deep into their pockets to save Bologna.

“Bologna is not ours, but the city's and the fans',” he said.

Asked about the novel way his bid was structured, Zanetti replied: “It's a new thing for Italy.”

When pressed as to why he didn't take sole control of the club, he snapped. “Because I am not a wealthy fool.

Also I also wonder if Nicola knows Giovanni Consorte or knows of him ?

Yes but this hardly sounds like a similar sort of thing. I mean this guy if we get him will clearly have some of the most talent in our team. Better than De Ridder and Guly at any rate.

Further confirmation from Bologna journalist @DL_Corriere:

@Zoggers87 we guess bolognafc chairman wants so much that money and he will be so upset if ramirez stays

I asked if they want to sell and he replied:

@Zoggers87 more or less.. but he cannot say it

Nixon said this...They want to sell....we know the terms...deal to be done.

Let's relax and it will play out, big deals like this worth haggling.....now will Phillips return for Blackpool tonight?

Pretty certain Bologna want to sell and the consequences if the sale is left to the January window or later may not favour Bologna at all. The player and the team is going to be unsettled and the value will be dropping as time goes by. Not many clubs like dealing in the January window, especially for the big amounts. We have a couple of weeks for this dance to play out but not sure Cortese will still be playing by then.

There was obviously some sort of tentative agreement with Bologna, otherwise no need to start negotiations afresh. I find it difficult to understand how the player can be owned by more than one party, something I thought FIFA outlawed? But if you hand over a large wedge and find subsequent difficulties, that would be a dangerous exposure.

If anything it looks like Bologna are slightly desperate to sell now but the President wants to show off his poker skills to the fans. Just does not make sense as there is little doubt the money will be paid when agreed. Bologna will purchase new on a similar agreement and no real ripples left over. I know nothing like all the details but find it very difficult to believe this just comes down to the timing of the payments as proposed. If it were me I would be walking just because of that strong smell of fish!

At £12m I'd want a lot more than that. He would have to be the best player in the club by a country mile at that price and reported salary. I think expectations are a bit unrealistic.

I think it's fair to say he's considerably better than:

Steven Fletcher (£12m), (reportedly)

Jordan Henderson (£20m),

Stuart Downing (sh*tloads)

James Milner (sh*tloads)

Ashley Young (probably)(sh*tloads)

Plus with age on his side, and hopefully without the ego, I really like the sound of Ramirez. £12m is huge for us, but you won't get many better players for that sort of money.

Bolgna are in **** and need the money as do most Italian clubs including the Milans! the only teams with real money are in the premiere league and the two big spanish clubs. Bologna are hoping for more and they want to show their fans they are not desperate to sell, but the probability is they will have to make do with what Saints have on the table. This deadlock is not unlike Modric to Real at the moment except that Bologna need to sell more than Spurs.

The fact the deal is complicated and not straight is also to our advantage given the time effort and attention it has taken us to get here and the number of days left for anyone else to have a go!.

We were sh**e and didn't look that exciting on the day, but he wasn't the worst player on the pitch by a long way, but he was the one subbed first.

After which we got several players fit again, and we started picking up form, so he didn't get another look in when everyone else was back.

It's rather unfair to judge someone (except perhaps Ali Dia) on barely 45 mins. of football in a poor game.

Do we have any Italians on here with their ear to the ground? We need one in the mold of Spanish Javi the Barca fan (think Manual from faulty towers) who single handedly drove through the Javier De Pedro transfer a few years ago.

Ramirez is indefinitely

but the Southampton is nearest

Double summit in Bologna, the Saints and the agents of the player: there is still debate. Liverpool will try again. Guaraldi not spring, but already talk with Floccari

Gaston Ramirez LONDON - The day that was to bring the white smoke from Gaston Ramirez and Southampton was actually a day of long and intensive contacts between the parties continued until late at night: on the one hand the Saints, on the other Bologna with dg Zanzi closed all day in the office and in contact with both the president Guaraldi both the red and white and the player's agent Pablo Bentancur. The parties are certainly closer than skirmishes last weekend but the officer still has not arrived, and yesterday, at sunset Gaston Ramirez was still in a Casteldebole invaded by wasps to train apart from his friend Gimenez (both are bruised ), a few meters away from Manolo Gabbiadini, the new purchase rossoblù yesterday held its first training session in Bologna. Those who expected the absence of Ramirez as a sign of his final assignment had to write instead the absence of Casarini, which seems on the verge of sale (Cagliari on him, another team of several A and B).

Manolo Gabbiadini ALSO LIVERPOOL - Gaston was there before the gym and then in the field, probably waiting rumors about his future still hangs in the balance, since different voices from England yesterday showed the standoff between Bologna and Southampton also due to the inclusion teams who had already followed the Uruguayan and outputs are defeated by the first day of the Premier League, Liverpool and Tottenham (but want a first peak) in the head. The Reds, in particular, would have moved after almost lost madridista Sahin destination Arsenal, but the cost is very high dell'uruguagio for them - because they failed to give the tip Carroll, who would in their coffers the money needed - and there are those who suspect an act of disturbance because the same Southampton is trying to blow the Liverpool also lending the phenomenal baby Barcelona striker Cristian Tello. The Southampton then remains decidedly in the lead after two days of talks really constant to cover the "pull" of the last week: the parties have approached and even today, despite the white smoke itself did not arrive, the Saints arriving signals confidence.

EARLY - The Ramirez stay the same until late in Casteldebole is a further signal of the desire to close the deal in a short time, considering that the commitments of today Zanzi - in Rome for the match-fixing process - are likely to further extend the tempi. In bottom of the figure offered by Southampton (which also seeks Luca Biglia) would come to 15 million requested by the clean Bologna, the distance - until late last night-there was only the tranche payment and guarantees required by the Bologna to cover the amount that the Saints will have to pay at a later date, but at the latest within 12 months requested by Guaraldi. Another clue of white smoke now close is the presence, in various interviews, Fifa agent Claudio Vigorelli: an intermediary between the parties, but also an agent of Sergio Floccari, the player of Lazio Pioli required to fill at least in part - also probed Vukusic, class '91 Hajduk Split, and remain alive tracks Elkeson Botafogo and Bueno of Nacional Montevideo-l'eventuale void left dall'uruguagio. Unlikely to be a coincidence.

Don't know if this one has been posted but here goes....

Gaston Ramirez back on Liverpool and Spurs radar as Saints move stalls

Such poor journalism that... They have obviously seen reports that our deal is on the verge of collapse because a deal cannot be agreed. They have then thought, oh well Spurs & Liverpool were interested so we will put them in the article and then assume he wants to go to Liverpool. Ramirez has stated himself he wants to sign for Southampton to play first team football and becase he had an offer he could not refuse. That quite clearly doesnt say 'I would prefer Liverpool'.

I saw Uruguay play Senegal and like Derry I didn't notice Ramirez either, but Uruguay were absolutely crap, the only 2 players I did notice were Suarez ( I only realised it was him after about 30 mins) and Cavani (Realised some point in the second half).. I only recognised them because I know what they look like.

I didn't know anything about Ramirez until this all started, from what I've heard he sounds a good player and I hope he signs. It sounds a lot of money but if we want to get young international footballers like this it's probably the going rate.

So the problem is totally down to finance and how we pay. The Corriere della Sport journo now says that the issue is that Bologna dont trust us to pay the remaining 5m euros.

This all stems from a transfer last year. Bologna sold Osvaldo to Espanyol. He then moved on to Roma and Espanyol stopped paying the remaining installments on the transfer. Therefore Bologna now dont trust us to complete the deal in a years time just because 1 club messed up.

I agree with you Derry, I've watched the olympic games and the Youtube vids and he looks OK, possibly very good but very hard to tell. Personally if the lad was being touted around for 2M then the reaction on here would be very different. I tried to say that several pages ago but it seems to me that the price tag has blinded any doubt. Obviously it's encouraging to be linked with players in this bracket and range but it's not all guaranteed success, or worth it and plenty have failed. The big worry is we sign him and he doesn't turn out to be the new Maradona instantly - the hype on here seems to be expecting that to be the case.

As I said earlier this is ******** - All Bologna need to do is report Espanyol to UEFA via the Italian FA. This is a lame excuse.
