Ramirez probably has the higher "upside" but Ince and Phillips probably have a safer "downside."

 

I'd lean toward Ince and Phillips but it needs to be a quick switch in focus and a "no farting about" negotiation because "time's-a-passing" for both Blackpool and us.

 

If I were a betting man, with the Liverpool and Spurs shadow in the wings after two weekend losses, I'd stick my money on us getting just Phillips.

 

A little bit less in the long run might work out to be a whole lot more in the long run. I think Ince could be the real star in time.

Translates as: Guaraldi (Bologna Chairman) leaves door open for Southamton, 'certain stories never end'

 

Also:

Still a deal to be done...

 

There is - it's just a waiting game. Don't expect anything imminently, this is something that will probably play until the deadline. In my opinion anyway.

 

Nixon's take on it is interesting, he obviously has a very firm English based source connected to us that fed him the details re: Jay Rod and Clyne.

 

Maybe we should lock this thread...cause the lack of news will only wind people up!

Nixon has deserved for us to take what ha says about us seriously as he's had it spot on with us all summer. As he says we're not going to pull out after all this. Still think he will be signed by the weekend. Hopefully he'll be available for the weekend

That was about the time that Saints were expected to complete the deal, after the "mysterious" third party involvement

 

Don't you at least smell a tiny rat ??

 

Buttner deal was already in the process of dying on 10 July, that's more like 6 weeks than a month ago...

It is clear that the company will try to sell all but Gaston, as is also clear that against Chievo Pioli can not deploy the Uruguayan playmaker and lacks even a hint of value. Over the years the Premier clubs have imported a whole host of foreign players with big reputations for megabucks, on big salaries and in many cases these have turned out to be big disappointments, difficult to shift and eventually sold abroad for a fraction of the outlay. I just hope if he signs he's not one of these.

They hold the cards at the moment, but the nearer the deadline approaches we will have the say (unless no one else comes in)

Can understand that viewpoint but this guy is class and has further room for improvement.

There is no way we should be going anywhere near the deadline with this one. We need strengthening and don't need an eleventh hour failure to sign Ramirez leaving us weaker than we could have been had we signed an alternative.

Yep I get that but...if a replacement is easy to find for the money we are paying is it really that good a deal for us?

Wouldn't we be better spending this on the likes of Phillips, Curtis Davis, Caulker?

Confused by the general thoughts that only one transfer can be done at a time. We don't just have Cortese negotiating. He'll have the final say, but we have resources.

If the alternative was still available that could happen but all the eggs in one basket could backfire. I saw Uruguay Olympic team three times and the only one that I noticed was Suarez probably because I knew of him. That team underperformed and failed to qualify and I don't recollect Ramirez standing out. I'm happy to pass on this one.
