Here is a novel idea. As you seem so sure that the deal will never happen, why not let those that want to keep following it do so and leave this thread alone.

Numerous sources in Italy basically said "done deal" last week and that obviously wasn't the case so maybe there are still some twists yet? Not sure what your problem is?

If people stopped wetting themselves over failed transfers it'll be less embarrassing. Clubs fail on most targets, they just move on. So should all of we. Like sunday's game, we were able to dream for a while, but then reality sunk in

I wouldn't close it yet,Nixon is still saying its on........

We are told the player wants to come to us

We are told that the transfer fee has been agreed

We are told the stumbling block is the method of payment (Bologna wanting more up front and quicker payment of the balance than is the accepted norm )

Question :- How many transfers have Failed because of the "method of payment" ??

why are people still clinging onto tweets from a mirror journalist who dodges questions when asked?

Numerous sources in Italy have said this, `deal is off, which it most probably is, let's more on and focus on getting a CB and Phillips

Numerous Italians tweeted with info all from the same source, a local paper in Bologna. So on that basis we should now cling on the Echo's every word?

So journalist in England = wrong, journalists in Italy = right

On what is that based? What makes one more reliable to you than the other?

Saints keep quiet and Bologna/Ramirez dont... The italians are clearly more clued up on this one. He wont be signing. Move on.

Very much still on according to Nixon. I suggest we stop looking for minute to minute updates, cross our fingers and wait for any announcement.

But then a lot of people would have to get on with their work. Boo.

As I have just said to Nixon, maybe we are trying to make Bologna feel that the deal is off due to the price to try and force them to lower their demands? If they don't (which looks like it), then maybe we'll give in and say "ok, we'll pay full price".

If anyone is using the Italian Press it will be Bologna however it seems telling when their President feels the need to come here to do the deal only to leave with no agreement in place.

I am hoping that this drawn out affair results in us getting our man but I am slightly concerned that if it does all fall through that we have spent a whole lot of time and attention on this one player. Any other players we may be courting may not appreciate the lack of focus they have been getting and subsequently look elsewhere. It would be a shame if the deal does fall through, along with it the opportunities to have got some other players through the door. Just hope we havent put the vast majority of our eggs into a Louis Vuitton basket!

Who is wetting themselves? You're the one demanding that the thread is closed and that we "move on" to a CB and Phillips. As if what we say and do on here is of any relevance at all.

IF this does go through, this could be one of the biggest signings of the summer in the PL and you want everyone to stop talking about it because you personally don't think it will happen? Not sure what your point is.

This is quite clearly the fault of Paul Telfer, Jermaine Wright, Paul Wotton and Guly. Some how they have come together and forced this deal to fall through.

Boooooo

You forget the Scottish guy we had whose name totally escapes me for the moment.

It's all his fault.

Apparently we had a scout watching Tello on Sunday night. I don't believe the whole 1 target at a time notion.

@kiffer850 Your club is confident. I think they know more about it than anyone listening to Bolgona publicity ...

Hope he is right, it could be an explanation.

Remember though, that his story is printed today in the Mirror, so he would want it to happpen otherwise he also looks silly.

i blame Turdish (hehe!)

all his bashing of Cortese & his lack of transfer nowse has finally got to him & meant his hard business mojo has left him in his hour of need.

the crafty Italians from Bologna sense his weakness & have have his balls in a vice over payments.

lots of love for the Don is needed to help him get his mojo back !

Believe in the Don !

(if it all goes t1ts up, lynch the bastard ! )

That goes without saying. I'd also like to blame Adkins for not being a big enough name in order to attract players.

That was one of my concerns when we first got him in, I said something like "even if we get to the Prem, he's only ever signed players who are U-25s from League One and the bottom of the Championship, how are we going to get players good enough to stay up ?".

I'm over it.

Seriously, though, we're essentially negotiating against ourselves. Unless someone else comes in for Ramirez, Bologna has a simple choice - Saints or nobody. At some point we have to follow the age-old rule - make our best pitch and then STFU, because the first guy that talks, loses. That sounds like Cortese's kind of tactic.

Pretty high success % then, although these are just the ones that made the media. Same at most clubs; lots of enquiries, rebuffs and non completions happen all the time. Hardly unique to Saints and Cortese.

Yep. Well done Cortese for doing deals for players from Exeter, Colchester, Preston and Burnley. Add in a few loans and out of contract and out of favour players that's impressive. Not quite such a hit rate on players that will fullfill his European dream though is it.

But if Ramirez was staying, they'd certainly be trumpeting it as a Bologna coup already.

Of course he could yet end up somewhere else, but I've got no more to go on with that than I have that we're still trying to sign him. Hence waiting to see what happens without getting in a massive frenzy about it. It'll happen, or it won't.

You mean gorkks, ward, fontaine and buttner and any other player who hasn't got a pot to pi $$ in?

It's a well proven formula that signing NPC players normally results in finishing in a European spot a few years later.

Good player, unappreciated here.

I tried to talk to him at the Player's Sponsor's Dinner in our relegation year. He was slightly inebriated and I couldn't understand a word he said.

I just kept nodding at what seemed the appropriate points...

Edit : Similar to what I'm doing with these google translates.....

#Peñarol: La CD autorizó al apoderado de Gastón Ramírez la venta al Southampton. Si se concreta la venta, Peñarol cobrará U$S 1.5 millones.

So in effect, Penarol have agreed to accept £1.5m from Saints.

I think that pretty much covers it, Mr 9. The last bit is particularly apt.

Neil McCann, that's who!!!

No way could Ramirez fill the legacy of his number 10 shirt. Too much pressure.

"Can you do the McCann shuffle, Gaston ?"

"Que?"

"Tiptoe frantically on both feet with the ball stationary between your legs and watch Stephane Henchoz laugh as he takes the ball off you".

Just my honest OPINION

(Something which you used to be able to have on this site)

I suppose you believe players DON'T get tapped up then ??

I believe players DO get tapped UP but nothing to SUGGEST that MAN UTD had ANYTHING to DO with the BUTTNER deal in FALLING through.

If Man Utd wanted him they could have come in for him at any time and he would have gone to them. They wouldn't need to tap a player up to compete for a player with a club like ours
