How will the rest of the squad feel about it?

How do we improve if that is going to be an issue.????

By doing it gradually instead of splashing out ridiculous sums of money on one single player that might turn out to be a Billy-Big-B0ll0x and disrupt the team spirit.

He might not, I grant you. But it's a massive gamble IMO, and the last couple of years have shown that's not how we do things at SFC, and the events at the other end of the M27 have shown the catastrophic results of a reckless transfer policy.

I agree with this, especially when we have a player like Chaplow not even making the bench. Is Ramirez any better than him? Or De Ridder?

Which makes two assumptions:

1 - That this is 'reckless transfer policy', whereas I would suggest (and Adkins himself has stated this) we know what we have to spend and will do so accordingly without it being reckless. Admittedly this is also an assumption on my part but given Adkins quote on this and the fact that Cortese said in the past that the club needs to be self-sufficient (and given his background), I believe is a far more realistic one.

2 - That Adkins has not done what he clearly has done for all previous transfers, and do his homework on the type of person the player is. I personally couldn't see him buying someone who might come with a significant risk of upsetting the squad, and whilst there's no guarantee, again, given the precedents set, I think it unlikely.

Let's hope that's advised information, rather than just assumed.

De Ridder is probably better than Ramirez anyway. Why not look to Belgium for more talent like him. This Gaston matey (silly name) could be a complete rip off!!!!

I agree, Steeeeeeeeve is awesome, i love the way he runs so fast. A real asset.

That goal at Reading was mental

Good with the banta too on twitters.

I'd be surprised if De Ridder starts another league game for us. If we sign all our targets he might not even make the 25 man squad

I want to watch him play in our team so much it hurts. Just imagine him and Lallana flicking the ball to each other, twisting round players and ghosting into spaces with sublime skill. It's going to be incredible.

I still can't quite get my head around, that after seeing the likes of Paul Wotton and Lloyd James, that we'll be seeing a player as good as Gaston strutting his stuff at St Mary's - in the space of 3 years. Can't quite get my head around our rise.

Thank you markus.

I have changed my Avatar to demonstrate my levels of excitement at this rumour (maybe only posters with young children will understand the reference!!)

According to the website of the Gazzetta dello Sport, in these minute negotiations between Bologna and Southampton for the sale of Ramirez is definitely missed. The president Emilia Guaraldi did not fulfill the terms of payment guaranteed by the English club.

Ramirez, then, could remain in Bologna, but at this time look at Tottenham, that after the sale of Modric to Real Madrid could raise the offer to get to Nino.

If this comes off, and we add another player or 2 then it's plausible that a lot of us will be seeing the best Saints team in our lifetime.

The best Saints team in my lifetime finished 2nd in the league behind one of the best Liverpool sides in history. I assume you're too young to remember that, but for some of us there's an absolute chasm between this team and our best ever (the success of which I doubt I'll ever see again).

Saints finished 2nd in the top flight within the lifetime of a large number of people on this forum.

Whats wrong with you two? Its not even pedantry, its something weaker even than that. He wrote "If this comes off, and we add another player or 2 then it's plausible that a lot of us will be seeing the best Saints team in our lifetime". Since the 1982 team was 30 years ago and you'd need to be nearly 40 plus to remember it what he wrote was self evidently true.

We had a better team the year before in my opinion. 2nd place snuck up on us ;)

Well "a large number" isn't everyone is it? The best team many of us have experienced was under Strachan. This team certainly comes close to that one for me.

True, but was an era when you could get the twice EU player of the yaer for wages of £140k a YEAR - (approx £10k a week in todays terms) - now you need maybe £300,000 k a week .... so to compare what we might achieve in the Sky era to that historic period is never going to be totally fair

What are you getting all excited about Tim? I wasn't being a pedant, I was explaining that there are some of us who have a different view of what Saints' best team has ever been. Have another read, I was speaking for myself and "some" others.

Weird.
