Saint Charlie Posted 21 August, 2012 Posted 21 August, 2012 If we don't sign him can we get Leon Crouch back and bin off Cortese?

skintsaint Posted 21 August, 2012 Posted 21 August, 2012 My birthday tomorrow...would be a sweet present
Sheaf Saint Posted 21 August, 2012 Posted 21 August, 2012 How will the rest of the squad feel about it? How do we improve if that is going to be an issue.???? By doing it gradually instead of splashing out ridiculous sums of money on one single player that might turn out to be a Billy-Big-B0ll0x and disrupt the team spirit. He might not, I grant you. But it's a massive gamble IMO, and the last couple of years have shown that's not how we do things at SFC, and the events at the other end of the M27 have shown the catastrophic results of a reckless transfer policy.

Minty Posted 21 August, 2012 Posted 21 August, 2012 By doing it gradually instead of splashing out ridiculous sums of money on one single player that might turn out to be a Billy-Big-B0ll0x and disrupt the team spirit. He might not, I grant you. But it's a massive gamble IMO, and the last couple of years have shown that's not how we do things at SFC, and the events at the other end of the M27 have shown the catastrophic results of a reckless transfer policy. Which makes two assumptions: 1 - That this is 'reckless transfer policy', whereas I would suggest (and Adkins himself has stated this) we know what we have to spend and will do so accordingly without it being reckless. Admittedly this is also an assumption on my part but given Adkins quote on this and the fact that Cortese said in the past that the club needs to be self-sufficient (and given his background), I believe is a far more realistic one. 2 - That Adkins has not done what he clearly has done for all previous transfers, and do his homework on the type of person the player is. I personally couldn't see him buying someone who might come with a significant risk of upsetting the squad, and whilst there's no guarantee, again, given the precedents set, I think it unlikely.
djk2g09 Posted 21 August, 2012 Posted 21 August, 2012 yea why didn't steeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeve play on sunday he's quality. pace would have undone City I'm sure of it
Whitey Grandad Posted 21 August, 2012 Posted 21 August, 2012 In the words of John Lennon...Let it Be! Actually Paul McCartney but who cares as long as he signs?
surrey1saint Posted 21 August, 2012 Posted 21 August, 2012 I agree with this, especially when we have a player like Chaplow not even making the bench. Is Ramirez any better than him? Or De Ridder? I trust in NC & NA's judgement,we will find out if he signs I guess?.....but he should be better.

djk2g09 Posted 21 August, 2012 Posted 21 August, 2012 De Ridder is probably better than Ramirez anyway. Why not look to Belgium for more talent like him. This Gaston matey (silly name) could be a complete rip off!!!!
The Cat Posted 21 August, 2012 Posted 21 August, 2012 I want to watch him play in our team so much it hurts. Just imagine him and Lallana flicking the ball to each other, twisting round players and ghosting into spaces with sublime skill. It's going to be incredible.
maysie Posted 21 August, 2012 Posted 21 August, 2012 I do miss Deppo sometimes... Deppo @DeppoInExile No one shoots like Gaston/Makes those beauts like Gaston/ Then goes tromping around wearing boots like Gaston http://youtu.be/PK3x2DOoJIc #saintsfc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PK3x2DOoJIc&feature=youtu.be

That goal at Reading was mental Good with the banta too on twitters.

This Gaston matey (silly name) could be a complete rip off!!!! I'd be surprised if De Ridder starts another league game for us. If we sign all our targets he might not even make the 25 man squad

I still can't quite get my head around, that after seeing the likes of Paul Wotton and Lloyd James, that we'll be seeing a player as good as Gaston strutting his stuff at St Mary's - in the space of 3 years. Can't quite get my head around our rise. Thank you markus.

There when Franny scored Posted 21 August, 2012 Posted 21 August, 2012 http://www.zerocinquantuno.com/?action=read&idnotizia=6654 According to the website of the Gazzetta dello Sport, in these minute negotiations between Bologna and Southampton for the sale of Ramirez is definitely missed. The president Emilia Guaraldi did not fulfill the terms of payment guaranteed by the English club. Ramirez, then, could remain in Bologna, but at this time look at Tottenham, that after the sale of Modric to Real Madrid could raise the offer to get to Nino.
The Cat Posted 21 August, 2012 Posted 21 August, 2012 If this comes off, and we add another player or 2 then it's plausible that a lot of us will be seeing the best Saints team in our lifetime.

The Kraken Posted 21 August, 2012 Posted 21 August, 2012 If this comes off, and we add another player or 2 then it's plausible that a lot of us will be seeing the best Saints team in our lifetime. The best Saints team in my lifetime finished 2nd in the league behind one of the best Liverpool sides in history. I assume you're too young to remember that, but for some of us there's an absolute chasm between this team and our best ever (the success of which I doubt I'll ever see again).

InvictaSaint Posted 21 August, 2012 Posted 21 August, 2012 Not over by any means. Just Italian media fun and games... @HusseinMarhoon: @ConnorArmstrong let's wait and see, these reports change every two hours. The printed version of Gazzetta dello Sport says they're close

He wrote "If this comes off, and we add another player or 2 then it's plausible that a lot of us will be seeing the best Saints team in our lifetime". Since the 1982 team was 30 years ago and you'd need to be nearly 40 plus to remember it what he wrote was self evidently true.

We had a better team the year before in my opinion. 2nd place snuck up on us
CWD Posted 21 August, 2012 Posted 21 August, 2012 Saints finished 2nd in the top flight within the lifetime of a large number of people on this forum. Well "a large number" isn't everyone is it? The best team many of us have experienced was under Strachan. This team certainly comes close to that one for me.

True, but was an era when you could get the twice EU player of the yaer for wages of £140k a YEAR - (approx £10k a week in todays terms) - now you need maybe £300,000 k a week .... so to compare what we might achieve in the Sky era to that historic period is never going to be totally fair
Saintandy666 Posted 21 August, 2012 Posted 21 August, 2012 Saints finished 2nd in the top flight within the lifetime of a large number of people on this forum. He said a lot. I bet there are a lot of people under the age of late twenties on this forum. 30's really... Because you'd be too young to remember otherwise.
norwaysaint Posted 21 August, 2012 Posted 21 August, 2012 Are we all ignoring that Gazetto della Sport are saying the deal's definitely off then?

I wasn't being a pedant, I was explaining that there are some of us who have a different view of what Saints' best team has ever been. Have another read, I was speaking for myself and "some" others. Weird.

RedArmy Posted 21 August, 2012 Posted 21 August, 2012 I agree with this, especially when we have a player like Chaplow not even making the bench. Is Ramirez any better than him? Or De Ridder? Struggling to work out if you're being serious here.
Saint Without a Halo Posted 21 August, 2012 Posted 21 August, 2012 our sixties team with Paine Davies Chivers and Channon wasnt to bad either for us oldies Best teams in my lifetime were 1) 80s team 2) sixties team after promotion 3) Strachan Team 4) current team (with potential to improve) Now lets get Ramirez and Phillips sorted followed by a couple od defenders on deadline day!
