  1. 1. Ramirez, will he sign Y/N

I'd be surprised if he stays now to be honest, I think Bolonga want the $$$ and they're trying to see all their options before making a call.

At least we haven't got to sit here for weeks and weeks though, ti needs to be done in the next 8 working days.

I think you're right Clarkey....except I suspect it will be €€€s not $$$

I'd rather see us buying Matt Phillips than Ramirez because I don't think we need them both and because, as Adkins says, its a team game and is about the squad, not the individual. Phillips would fit in well, has all the skills we need, and would not cause any unrest amongst the squad that breaking the pay structure for Ramirez might well do. But my biggest fear is that we don't buy either and go into September without the extra wide threat that we need.

No, sorry about that, its my second biggest fear. Failing to sign 2 CBs is my biggest.

Why would Ramirez cause unrest

Please explain

Also, why on earth would you fear it if we only signed 1 CB?

You do both Jose and jos a great dis-service IMO

Your First biggest fear must be that we fail to sign ANY surely

It seems we do all the hard graft, bring them into the media spotlight, then the Top Four come in and pinch them

Poker time. How about we tell them the offer's there until lunchtime today, and then we'll pursue other targets instead. Reports state we're the only bidders in town (for the price they want), they obviously want to sell him for big money, so I would say that Cortese has a slightly stronger hand than his Italian counterpart.

He could say it's because the Ramirez thread on Saintsweb is getting too big, and that Saintsweb posters are being sacked because they're following it instead of getting on with what they're paid to do.

Others may not say, however I can tell you that the salary talked about for this guy are very much in the ball-park of the salaries commanded by the best players in our squad. I will not give details, but I am assured that a certain player had his wage more than tripled on reaching the Prem. Don't think our players are the poor boys among a bunch of well-heeled Prem stalwarts - they are doing OK thank you.

why wouldnt you name names? What on earth does it matter, its hardly a sworn statement when it comes from some poster on an internet forum is it?

I can tell you, that despite what he says in his book about 2 grand a week, Matty was on 10K at the height of his reign at the Dell, because he told me so.

See, name the names FFS, you just lose so much credibility when you come on here and say "I'm not saying who, but......"

I mean its so ****ing obviously that it is either AL or RL anyway. Its hardly ground breaking is it, 10K to 30K.

This new guy is supposed to be on 60K though, FFS, I dont believe we are big enough (yet?) to pay these sort of wages.

Anyway, what happen with NC being so great at transfer dealings etc. He was lorded over the Chamberlain deal, took it right to them and got what he wanted.

After Buttner, and now these protracted issues, he is so good now?

Maybe he is being great in getting it this far?

If being good you mean rolling over and having your tummy tickled, then no he's not. I still think, on balance, that he'll pull this one off.

The usual suspects saying it will not happen, based on absolutely nothing other than thin air.

Just sit back and wait for whatever happens. It's not worth getting wound up and frustrated about.

I see people are setting their own deadline for this to happen based on nothing and starting to have a pop at the club.

Ramirez reminds me of benito carbone

I think you have to trust the club's judgement on this one. They haven't let us down yet - Jos, Clyne, Cork, Davis, Lee, Rodriguez, Sharp - all decent players. Not too sure about De Ridder though, but he did score an important goal for us at Reading last season.

I'd be getting wound up except I saw people say exactly the same about the Cork and Sharp deals - Cork particularly. These typically take a greater deal of time than we fans are happy with :D

Reading between the lines, I think we've got him - we're just waiting for complete confirmation before announcing it.

You're forgetting that footballers and their agents always quote their salaries a) as a weekly amount and b) after tax , to make it less obvious to us poor fools that provide the money to pay them from realising how much they 'earn'. After tax the figures Ramirez quoted are more like £30k a week, so not so much more than we pay our other top earners anyway.

It will cost us c£60k a week to pay him that much ,yes, (or c£3 million a year!) but so it will also to pay AL and RL etc.

Of course for Portsmouth the pre and post tax amounts are usually the same!

I would agree with a take it or leave it offer, it wil give us time to get something sorted.

Jeez. This thread is nearly as long as the PTS.

It has to be clear to anyone that the deal is done with Bologna and now it is all about cutting back on what the agent will get and the side deal with Penarol, my bet is that both Bologna & Saints will try and cut their share by a half, and neither of them can scupper the deal just make it more difficult.

Agent on his way to Uruguay to negotiate his cut with Penarol is a possibility that nobody has commented on.

If the tweet posted on here is to be believed, Penarol's 1.5m is nowhere near their reported 30% share of the player.

I share your concern. Ultimately this is likely to be an Arsenal type deal where we have bought on ptential. We sign him on a long contract and he turns out good Citeh poach him when he refuses to sign an extension contract, turns out to be poor we will take a bath.

so what you're saying is, we shouldn't sign any players who have the potential to be good, or not be good?

I do share your concerns though. I'd be absolutely gutted if we signed Ramirez, only for him to turn into one of the best players in the world and we sell him for a massive profit in a few years time. That would be awful.

I think that was Chalet's point.

Christ these message boards are full of mongs. Man Utd clearly made a mistake signing Van Persie, he will be on higher wages than other players and will be one of the main players. The team spirit will be ruined! Hernandez & Wellbeck will ber very upset!

I bet RVP isn't on significantly more than Rooney.

If you think bringing in a multi million pound signing on big wages into a newly promoted side doesn't carry any risk of disruption then good for you but I think you're wrong.

This is all very exciting but I was jumping up and down when we signed Delgado too. Let's hope it happens but let's go in with our eyes open.

And use the money from that to buy 4 players of the quality/potential of Ramirez.

No Rupert these days

It is 30% of the player, it doesnt have to be sold in the same ratio to the other 70%. If Penarol want to sell their 30% for £1.5m, then that is up to them. Theoretically, Bologna could sell their 70% for £100m if they can find a buyer.

Very complicated. No wonder it's taking so long to complete.

Still at least we haven't got the lad's old man trying to sting us for £600,000.

That's right, so if we get him for 15m to bologna and 1.5m to Penarol that will be a great deal. That's without knowing if thes any further sell on fee granted to both clubs.

Penarol's 30% ought to be worth around 6m.

Edit: all figures in Euros.

Peoples opinions vary. Some think it will happen, some don't. Some think it will happen now but wont if it rolls into the weekend. Just views, not tantrums or having a pop at the club.

Superb writing, couldn't agree more. Love the comments about QPR and ridiculously ovepriced Steven Fletcher!

Can't argue with the QPR comments but

£15m for Steven Fletcher is because that is what the club value him at, obviously they don't want him to leave so they put a ridiculous price tag on his head. I would be very surprised if anyone was to hand over that sort of dosh for him, and if he wanted to leave he'd hand in a transfer request..

Can you really, honestly and truthfully, say, at the stage his career was at, AO-C was worth the fee (was it £10m) Arsenal paid for him??

That deal wasn´t about where his career were at the time, that was about prospect and future values.

No news is good news? Based on how easily Bologa's chairman and the player himself have blabbed, they maybe have nothing to blab about either way yet.

Who knows - there is also the matter of this court case that someone from Bologna is attending...might take attention away from the deal.

What is going on... I thought we had signed Ramirez after listening to N.A interview on Sunday.

Getting transfers through are a joke at the moment and will be pleased when September comes !

Come off it mate. NA was typically coy about the whole thing so not sure how you got the impression he had signed? As far as we know, we've only been in the late stages of this deal for around a week. Some transfers go on for weeks or months. This is nothing.
