Doesn't sound too promising...

I'm still pretty hopeful though as it's so far down the line. Gaston wants to sign for us, we've sold the entire vision to him and he absolutely loves it - we've basically told him that he will be the main man and take us to where we want (not sure how the other players will react to that though!). Bolonga are just trying to get the best they can for their best player, which is fair enough. I think they'll realise soon enough that other teams won't offer more than what we've offered.

and in all honesty, both seem to have shifted. LFC have signed another winger, and Spurs have come out and said they don't want him - although that could be a typical ''I don't want him, but actually i really do'' type of transfer-esque comment!

Bolonga are basically trying to mess us about, simple as that. If we have the patience to hold out who knows.

They've changed the goal posts, when everything was pretty much agreed before he blabbed. There is still nothing decided from what I've been told. They're now trying to create an auction as they aren't getting what they want out of us.

It may be that they realise this is thee best they'll get and finish it up there and then, but this will drag now IMO. I thought it would be decided tonight..!

Buttner

Phillips

Ramirez

I see a pattern here. :x

Meanwhile Swansea (5-0) have no problem signing Michu and now (apparently) Ki Sung-yueng. FFS.

Italy also has a transfer window (31 August), so Bologna have a strong incentive to get things done as quickly as possible and put any transfer money to use and sign replacements rather than let it burn a hole in their pocket. The itais are a funny bunch but they wouldn't f**k themselves to make a point.

The alternative is that Ramirez stays but that's hard to see -there's too much water under the bridge.

I'd be surprised if he stays now to be honest, I think Bolonga want the $$$ and they're trying to see all their options before making a call.

At least we haven't got to sit here for weeks and weeks though, ti needs to be done in the next 8 working days.

Perhaps the most pertinent point of the evening....

Maybe they can re-employ the guy who took the photo of Jay Rodriguez under the tree? He was a great spy.

This will throw the cat amongst the pigeons. Gaston is currently in training with Bolonga, some sort of ''disassociated training'' away from the first team I assume. That's from the Bolonga OS, so he's not here after all.

Safe to assume his rep's. are here though.

So, what story do I believe? Happy chappies celebrating a done deal with non alcoholic beverages, or scheming evil club president trying to start a bidding war?

Sit on the fence. Don't get too carried away either way, could happen, might not happen, but we're trying to make it happen. That's probably the best summary!

Why have you set your own deadline. On what basis?

Purely on the basis that their president was/is supposed to be over here thrashing out a deal. I'm sure he'll want it concluded quickly so he can get back to Italy to sort out a replacement before the transfer window shuts.

Seems as so were gonna spend 20 mill between gaston and phillips, i would rather us sign Phillips and a new CB and a experienced keeper, them 3 would complete are team for this season and make it a safe mid table team on paper.

Who said by signing Ramirez that we wont also sign a CB & Keeper...

All this excitement about this one player joining... Am I really the only one who actually has concerns about it?

Firstly, we aren't just breaking our previous transfer record for him, we're taking a sledge hammer to it, for someone who we're not even sure will adapt to the English game. That's very risky IMO.

Secondly, if it's true that he has been told he will be the main man (admittedly that is just conjecture from some posters) and will be on massively higher wages than the other players, how will the rest of the squad feel about that? Isn't there a good possibility that it will upset the fine balance that NA has worked so hard to nurture over the last two years?

You know someone is going to come in with a better offer, Lawro is right.

We are too new a club to punch too much weight. We'll lose this one, Phillips maybe, because we do all the work and some established PL club comes in at the last minute. Give it one or two seasons and we can do it to a Huddersfield or Charlton.

I'd imagine that would take a lot of pressure off of Lambert and Lallana, and hopefully allow them to play with a bit more freedom?

I think I am in your camp. Successful promoted sides that spend stupid money struggle and then get relegated.

This transfer, if it comes off, will be the first time under the new regime where the player is potentially bigger than the clubs current positioning, and where the Mgt have had to REALLY sell the vision.

This is the litmus test as to how far we have come and how far we can go.

Signing SRL, Billy, Clyne etc etc over the years were good signings, don't get me wrong, but this would be an AMAZING signing - under the noses of some of the biggest clubs in European football.

... we have only bought in a couple of players so far... and had we not can you imagine the out cry on here about lack of ambition. I would rephrase what you said as

successful promoted side spends stupid money on 10 new players and creates new team and gets relegated - still looks like we have the core of the promo winning side which needs to evolve to be cope with the higher level. As long as we bring in quality and bring it in slowly, I dont think there will be any issue - if we get relegated it wont be bvecause of what we spent, but most likely on what we didn't.

I share your concern. Ultimately this is likely to be an Arsenal type deal where we have bought on ptential. We sign him on a long contract and he turns out good Citeh poach him when he refuses to sign an extension contract, turns out to be poor we will take a bath.

I think we will have to trust Adkins about team fit and message it sends out. Spun well it says we are ambitious, communicated badly it says we are open for mercenaries.

Even more so I hope we are not betting the farm on this fella.

Struggling to work out if we're beter off not showing ambition and signing only Championship team of the year players, or showing ambition and buying players we could only dream of two years ago in case they turn out to be carp, or get poached for gazillions by Man City!

For the time being I thnk I'll sit back and enjoy the ride.

Others may not say, however I can tell you that the salary talked about for this guy are very much in the ball-park of the salaries commanded by the best players in our squad. I will not give details, but I am assured that a certain player had his wage more than tripled on reaching the Prem. Don't think our players are the poor boys among a bunch of well-heeled Prem stalwarts - they are doing OK thank you.

I'd rather see us buying Matt Phillips than Ramirez because I don't think we need them both and because, as Adkins says, its a team game and is about the squad, not the individual. Phillips would fit in well, has all the skills we need, and would not cause any unrest amongst the squad that breaking the pay structure for Ramirez might well do. But my biggest fear is that we don't buy either and go into September without the extra wide threat that we need.

No, sorry about that, its my second biggest fear. Failing to sign 2 CBs is my biggest.
