For those worrying about Carroll's impending departure to West Ham affecting the deal it seems the extra funds they will have available will be going elsewhere...

"Liverpool striker Andy Carroll is in London to finalise a season-long loan move to West Ham. The 23-year-old England international is expected to undergo a medical in the next few hours before completing a move to London. It is understood there is no commitment to buy the player at the end of the loan period but it should allow Liverpool to free up funds to move for Fulham striker Clint Dempsey" From BBC website 2 minutes ago.

Keep calm chaps, it'll happen.

'Lisp' isn't entirely accurate , which is why I put it in quotes, but there certainly is Castillian influence on the language: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rioplatense_Spanish

I've been to BsAs three times and once to Carmelo in Uruguay, a few minutes drive from Fray Bento. Rioplatense is definitely distinct from more common dialects of Spanish and might be picked up as a bit of a lisp.

Yep, as I've posted about earlier in this thread, Rioplatense is distinct from Spanish spoken in the rest of South America and Spain. Mainly in pronunciation (a shhh sound for the letter Y and the double L) and grammar (vos instead of tu, ustedes used instead of vosotros, and slightly different verb conjugations to go with that). But there is no lisping. Unless you think shhhhhhh-ing sounds lispy. Which it doesn't.

Oh, and while Spanish here is referred to as castellano, that does not mean it has anything to do with Castilian Spanish from Spain.

Thank god that's cleared up

No way they could complete this in time given how long its taken us to negotiate with Penarol etc. Given that those ITK have hinted that money has been transferred and the medical team flew out yesterday I really think that this is all done and dusted anyway.

If the deal was ever going to happen it would have done so by now, and you're all fools for actually believing we can attract this sort of player. We need to be more realistic.

No, wait, I mean, keep the faith people - this IS going to happen! We're a Premier League club now and we all need to get used to signing this sort of player. Definitely think a top 4 finish is within reach now.

Just trying to fit in.

Bologna won't agree a loan. They want as much $$$ up front as they can get. With Liverpools offer they'd be getting a loan fee, with the rest being paid in a year. They don't want that, which is the trouble we've had.

Reports now suggest we're paying them 12m up front straight away, that's what they want. They will not loan him for a smaller fee. It's a non-story really, hence why it's only on that one random website.

This forum will go into meltdown when he doesn't sign by the deadline & nobody knows why. Its been close for a week now but excuse after excuse is coming out as to why it isn't done yet. Just a few details to sort. Once those are sorted there seems to be a few more details to sort. Now we're set up for a huge disappointment. Its a shame this has overshadowed the signings of Mayuka & Yoshida. I hope & pray that I am wrong.

10pm announcement ?

I reckon we want him over here before we announce it our side. I imagine its done, everything is signed, now he needs to jump on a jet and stay in a hotel over night. Then we'll get a nice press unveiling tomorrow, just how NC would want. Eyes of the world looking in etc.

Sky sports Italia saying ramirez is done, total fee of 18,000,000 euros, combined to penarol and Bologna

Link?

Or are you getting it from this...

@AlvaroLevrero: @SkySportsNews say #GastónRamírez 's deal's done finally to #Southampton for an amazing total amount of £ 18:000.000. The biggest until now.

Who has tweeted that 4 times to get attention from Sky...

Many said bologna are desperate as they need the money, but at the same time, we are desperate to get this player (and they know that), so in the end (it looks like) we've paid out more money to seal the deal.

Which is always what happens with this transfer window business. Just look at Andy Carroll to Liverpool. There is no way they would have paid that much had there been no transfer deadline. Its pretty standard practice nowadays which is why there is a lot to be said for concluding deals at the start of the window whenever possible.

Which is exactly why it can be difficult to sort deals early.
