Dear Mr Lawrenson......

Mark Lawrenson gets beaten on his BBC predictions game by celebrity armchair football enthusiasts far too frequently for an expert. The "Ramirez not going to Southampton" thing might be another prediction he got wrong*.

Hope he signs but his attitude towards bologna will come back and bite us in the future.....when he gets bored or another club comes in for him, expect trouble/strikes to force a move and if reports are true that his agent has given up his fee to make the deal happen then he is going to want to recoup that at some point, those boys don't like doing something for nothing.

Probably true but 25 goals and 45 million pounds later he may want to leave in 2 years.

We could do a swap deal with some Arsenal players.

If he does sign, can someone clarify where he plays?

Have seem him variously described as a midfielder, winger and forward (not necessarily all mutually exclusive).

If we get him, who gets dropped from the starting XI?

Well he is compared to Kaka...but Uruguayan.

Attacking midfielder with a peach of a left foot.

For Home matches, he'll play at St Marys

For Away matches, at the opponents groundr

I imagine he will be played on the right in place of Puncheon/Guly or on the left where Rodriguez has so far been ineffective.

So he plays on the left and he plays on the right. Is he comparable, perhaps favourably, with another player from the same continent as he, who plays for a club that has several connections with Southampton?

Premier League Bologna, Ramirez sale near

League BOLOGNA RAMIREZ - He's coming to an end the soap opera (or arm wrestling?) Between Bologna and Gaston Ramirez for his transfer. According to reports from Tuttusport, the fate Uruguayan is now far from Italy. It is shortly with Southampton, namely 5% of the premiums training teams who have raised the talented player. The Penarol wants 600,000 euros which they are entitled, the Bologna do not pay this amount and the English club has already put into the pot 14 million for 70% of the card. Ramirez, however, needs a permit extraordinary Football Association to play, since it is outside the EU, but you can request it only talks ended, which explains the haste with which the agents are trying to close the deal.

Wow. According to this piece we are paying the entire €14m upfront to avoid guarantees etc. Massive commitment from Cortese if true. This also makes reference to "premium on training" which I presume is Penarol's share that will get deducted automatically from the €14m.

Farewell Gaston | Rate

The Bologna aims Floccari

Almost done for the passage of Ramirez at Southampton. The Bologna seeking a replacement. For the tip of the 4.5 million offer from Lazio. In the viewfinder also Palombo, Ferronetti and Juan Jesus

LONDON - Ramirez-Southampton, this time (maybe) do. Seems to come to the end credits the soap opera between Bologna, the Uruguayan and Saints: a negotiation that has had a place on the evening of Sunday and yesterday continued with all parties to work on their tables. The situation of the deal this time is at an advanced stage: 14 million at Bologna (from which deduct the premium on training: in the end will come clean about 13.75 million), all at once in cash to avoid the problems of previous guarantees and rate.

If this comes off I fear the worse for tabloid name related puns:

- "At Gast" - perfect to close out this transfer saga / a GR goal drought

- "Out of Gas" - useful in a sending off or a bad miss

- " 'Ton of trouble" - can be used either for training ground unrest or a barnstorming performance

- "Saints ram it home" - ideal for a victory inspired by GR

- "Irez-istable" - as above

..... etc.

I'd just be happy to see "Ramirez OFFICIALLY joins Southampton FC!" -

Nothin funny, nothing clever,

Just fact.

It's all I want..

Penarol seem to have been ok during the rest of the deal so sure this can be sorted quite quickly.

Wont he need to have his work permit completed before Friday's transfer deadline or can it be sorted afterwards as long as he has signed a contract and that has cleared with the FA?

We had exactly this issue and this "forum stress"with Tadanari Lee & his Work Permit.

To the shock of most posters, the club had been on the case from the start of the negotiations and the permit was issued extremely fast. He can be registered before the Deadline, does not need a work permit for that. They already did the ground work and know the process so why should it be different this time. (Hello FCO? We want to sign this guy will it be OK & what do you need from us?")

IF something went wrong after that then he just goes out on loan - we can still own him even IF he cannot play

If I recall the Lee incident correctly, we had already been knocked back for the initial work permit and had already lodged the appeal based on Lee's potential contribution to the game. No way will this one fail at wp stage.

Gastón Ramírez is in England to discuss personal terms with Southampton after a fee was finally reached with Bologna. #Saints

Strange, since it has been widely reported that these were agreed some time ago. Not a very reliable Twitter source, I'm guessing....

Didn't copy this part from earlier post.

OBSTACLES - What's missing? The hot line is now Southampton-axis Penarol-Bentancur: the agent to facilitate the negotiations declined to receive commissions on the deal now and the British traslerebbe 30% on future sales is up to Penarol, but both he and the company Montevideo want some assurances from Saints. In short: if in a year come to Southamtpon an offer of 20 million, although the red and white the refuse would be required to give Bentancur Penarol and the money you have left on the plate this summer. One obstacle harder than expected to overcome the trust of Uruguayans in Southampton is what it is, but these efforts were the entourage of the player to force the transfer that is difficult to think that it can wreck everything right on the Uruguayan side of the story although the Penarol (yesterday already nervous about the terrible accident in Pacheco, their Di Vaio: broken tibia and fibula) is proving harder than expected obstacle. "There are discussions on the award of training and some percentage" leaked last night entourage of Ramirez, decidedly more pessimistic on Sunday night. Bentancur and his staff have extended by one day than expected to remain in England to close all the details (giving Guaraldi appointment for Thursday) and also to begin to set up the paperwork for a work permit: can be initiated with the contract with Southampton in the player's hand, but in the meantime there to ask for an exception to the FA, the English Federation, because Ramirez has not played 75% of games last year with the national team (the Olympic no text) and then for being non-EU regulation will need the OK Federal.

So the Olympics don't count towards the 75% and he hasn't played enough games to automatically be granted a WP - def no way he will play Sunday then - hopefully get it sorted for Arsenal.

Also - seems to suggest that Guaraldi the Bologna President will signoff the transfer on Thursday?

Thats what I can understand from it. His agent and club representatives have extended the deadline by a day, they are staying in Enlgand until confirmation that these %'s are completed and then he (Bologna president) is expected and happy to sign the deal on Thursday.

I'm looking at this " 75% thing " every time. Surely it has to be taken in context. Not every country plays a lot of games every year.....but 75% might mean, maybe only 2 games.

We understand the principle is that players with " lesser talent " don't come into the game in the place of home players, but it doesn't work well. top Swedish clubs sign dozens of foreign talents every season , often African players but never seem to encounter this problem.

If a " major " player was to transfer to another country

; say Owen, Gerrard or Terry ..and they'd been injured for a couple of games - they wouldn't meet this criteria, likewise a new talent who'd just come into the national side - he wouldn't qualify either.

Likewise , a player moving overseas who was "understudy to a major star " would never get a game either and also fall foul of this.

That is what Toadhall asserted some time ago. This deal is either very close or once again people are barking up the wrong tree.
