"@krtorb: Southampton makes offer for Ramirez and he may accept. A newly promoted English team have more money to spend than Inter."

And a tweet from a journalist who works for the Gazzetta Del Sport.

"@carlolaudisa: #Inter. Seria l'insidia del #Southampton per #Ramirez. Lui verso il si. Ora parola al #Bologna. #rischio #gds"

Who is he? He have much credibility? The Tweeter that is, not the player.

He has taken it from the feed of a Gazzetta dello Sport reporter:

Carlo Laudisa ‏@carlolaudisa

#Inter. Seria l'insidia del #Southampton per #Ramirez. Lui verso il si. Ora parola al #Bologna. #rischio #gds

Hmmm... Interesting.

I would be very impressed if this did happen and would even cut back on my whining about lack of quality signings. Though I still can't see it happening, surely we can't outbid the likes of Inter and Spurs?

Agree it seems farfetched. However, apparantly Inter don't have a lot of money and the fee is an issue for them (believed to be about €15m).

Wouldn't imagine Bologna are huge payers so the wages shouldn't be an issue assuming he isn't unrealistic. The bizarre bit is that Spurs wouldnt offer him enough money, so if they won't then I would be suprised if we do. However - who is to know whether that is really true - maybe Spurs didnt want him but the agent didnt want to say that.

Will be interesting to see what happens anyway.

Whisper it, but Spurs don't have much money. The amount of money spent over the last few years that they have been unable to recoup through Redknapps usual 'quantity over quality' methods have left them unable to purchase a striker or replacement players until Madrid buy Modric.

Direct quotes in the Mail from his agent, story is from yesterday but could things really moved as fast as us having an offer accepted and presented our wage offer over night?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2188106/Gaston-Ramirez-rejects-Spurs-move.html?ito=feeds-newsxml

I really can't see this happening. We can't out-muscle the likes of Spurs, Liverpool and Inter.

Think those quotes were a few days old. The other journo said Cortese was meeting that Agent yesterday (no reason for an Italian to make that up).

Looks like the whole package would be pricy but as I said earlier, he would have a high resale value.

Either way, interesting to be linked with a top prospect and maybe this is why we havent rushed into buying inferior players?

Are you doing the old 'lets keep on saying it can't happen, and then when it does I'll be so happy' trick?

He's pulled out of the Uruguay squad who are playing France in Le Harve this evening. He could just hop on a ferry over here and sign the deal this afternoon...

Yes.

I've learnt with Saints that to be pessimistic and always fear the worst is the best way. Then, when we experience the brief highs, they're so much more sweeter.

Apparantly he had a little injury. I think any deal like this, for him to move to any club, will take a bit of time. Lets be honest - when Inter, Liverpool and Spurs have been interested, he would take a lot of persuading to move to Saints.

This seems to be gathering pace, would be a hell of a coup if it happened and may even work for us in other deals as perhaps we would look a more attractive destination to other targets if we can attract a player of Ramirez quality.

Still can't see it happening though.

Once he's shown the 'dream', he will sign. ;)

I agree, but if Cortese REALLY wanted to offer those wages, we could out-muscle them.

We could rival pretty much anyone financially, if we really wanted to but it's been stressed to us from day one that we're not going to operate that way. Would be nice to break the budget every now and then though. It needs to be done if we want to achieve NC 'dream'.

Well a few reporters, including Nixon have said Cortese still wanted a marquee/sexy signing, so to speak.

Nixon thinks we are getting used - probably right - someone like Ramirez would be so hard to persuade to come here.

Exactly. If the quoted €15M is true, this is the minimum we should be spending on our best attackers to achieve top 10/Europe in the PL.

That's entirely what I think. We are being used as a bargaining chip to force the hand of the likes of Spurs, Liverpool and Inter.

I may be wrong but if I recall,Spurs as a club have a lot of money and very wealthy backers,BUT they have a wage structure in place that they do not break,I remember when Chelsea were after him it was quoting that Modric was only on £40k a week, considering the guy is a world class midfielder and would walk into any team in Europe that is a paltry sum in todays market,I doubt spurs would offer Ramirez no more that £15-20k a week

If it is the marquee signing Cortese is after then I would imagine we would offer £25-30 k a week with the gaurantee of week in week out football,I doubt he would get that guarantee at Spurs or Liverpool and that is something that may sway in our favour

Negative and dellsized mentality

Wouldn't get your hopes up about this happening atall guy's. Cortese only just back off his hols today so i wouldn't expect any signings till next week myself.

So the Italian Journalist was wrong about Cortese meeting with Ramirez's agent yesterday then?

Weren't they willing to offer him £100k a week to stay though?

What better place to thrash out a deal on the back of a yacht in Monaco?

is this just your opinion or do you know? i recall you was right about gazziniga signing before it was announced so you have form:)

Sounds like he has information on a deal regarding Ramirez, whether that it us or someone else remains to be seen...

Well for him to be going on Talksport it must involve an English club. My guess is Liverpool are going to hijack Spurs bid at the last minute.

c) almost none of the " London-based " players we've had (over several decades) has successfully adjusted to the " country life on the South Coast " which lacks the " glamour" of the London scene.

Jack Cork? ex-Chelsea youth....

He's on now talking about a player who's chained himself to Italian FA building and gone on hunger strike over being suspended for match fixing.

Haha. Got to love those highly strung, mental Italians.

I had a big argument with a taxi driver in Rome, it was one of the best arguments I've ever had. He was going mental, despite being in the wrong.

Crack open the champers, a few fit hookers, a mirror covered in columbian and a few discreetly taken pictures should be enough to convince any player of Corteses vision.

I can imagine him sat there in his white linen trousers, looking relaxed yet important - authority just oozing out of his pores. Just a meaningful stare from him should be enough to convince said player to sign on the dotted line. Once it's signed, he'll give off a smile of satisfaction before kissing the player on the top of his head and retiring to the bedroom with 2 models, whilst a butler escorts the player off the yacht.

It'll be like Scarface 2, except a football empire instead of a cocaine empire.
