Miltonroader07 Posted 12 August, 2012 Share Posted 12 August, 2012 Complete lack of effort from most players, Lambo did not give a stuff. I am not a Puncheon fan but with JWP he was our best player. I know there were only 2000 there and the atmosphere was crap but a bit of effort is called for. Play like that next week and we'll get hammered. Not being negative but it was a disgrace really. I thought Clyne was probably our best player personally. Why did you pay £20 to see Udinese and expect a proper first team 100% top-notch display huh? You tell us. I got 2 tickets for £12, so I decided to go. Wouldn't pay normal price.

doddisalegend Posted 12 August, 2012 Share Posted 12 August, 2012 One game before most of our players start the biggest season of their lives ...I imagine they were more worried about picking up an injury in a nothing game a week before the proper stuff starts than winning a game that meant nothing...........or maybe they're just lazy usless bastards... sperm_john Posted 12 August, 2012 Share Posted 12 August, 2012 for me it was an expensive reality check that we havent got this pre season right, euros and olympics somehow to blame for not enough transfers and i'm not sure we know our starting line up anymore ..if we beat city it will be more luck than judgement thats for sure and a miracle t'boot

Miltonroader07 Posted 12 August, 2012 Author Share Posted 12 August, 2012 The game last night was very negative, that was my comment; players did not try excepy Punch, JWP and Clyne; I never saw Lambert run !!! FFS

eurosaint Posted 12 August, 2012 Share Posted 12 August, 2012 The club made a major **** up on the pricing of all of these pre-season games IMHO ! Maximum price of a tenner and 'kids go free' would for sure have ensured much higher attendances with the additional spending on catering etc.. Granted the olympics didn't help but what's the point of trying to be greedy when it can easily backfire on the grounds of admission price alone ?? Tokyo-Saint Posted 12 August, 2012 Share Posted 12 August, 2012 I thought we all agreed that we added up the attendances for all of the preseason games and just pretended it was one game?
opthomps Posted 13 August, 2012 Share Posted 13 August, 2012 Cup half full. You paid the money to see a decent Udinese team. Cup half empty it wasn't far off that price to watch us last season at some grounds. Cynical cup would say you got mugged off.
Lord Duckhunter Posted 13 August, 2012 Share Posted 13 August, 2012 I dont go to preseason games, I dont like them and think they're a rip off. They are preperation games, and unless you know what each Manager wants out of each game, it's quite hard to judge how it went. Maybe Lambert just needed a bit of a gentle run and rather than "couldn't give a stuff" was just getting his prep right. Who knows, apart from the Manager coaching staff and fitness people. This Charming Man Posted 13 August, 2012 Share Posted 13 August, 2012 Lambert never tries in pre-season. I've only seen the game in Evian this year and he just strolled around looking rather disinterested, like he has done in years gone by. Still, he does the business when it matters... steve f 48 Posted 13 August, 2012 Share Posted 13 August, 2012 I have just watched the whole game via the earlier link and found that Saints were not as awful as some(who actually watched the game) have led us to think. In the second half Saints had probably 50-60 % of the game and look near to ok. They did need more penetration in the final third. I thought the 2nd half player formation was much better than the first.

We don't have to be awful to lose by 4 goals to good teams, and some of those good teams are now in our division.

Saint_John Posted 13 August, 2012 Share Posted 13 August, 2012 I remember going to a pre-season game a few years ago against the dutch side FC Utrecht, the last friendly before the start of the season and WE WERE DIRE. We lost 2-0 and it should have been more, as I remember Brett HAD OUR ONLY SHOT at goal in the whole 90mins. We were second to every ball that day. I remember coming away from the game thinking we are going to really struggle that season and some other fans said to me "we need to buy 5 or 6 new players". Yet the only comment from wGS was that "he had probably over worked the players in the buildup to that game." This is the only match report (part of) I can find http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1G1-90391189.html By xmas our fitness levels we second to none and we were outrunning other Premier League teams. We finished 8th and had a trip to the Cup Final so that wasn't a bad season (and pre season). From memory I don't believe we won a pre-season 90 min game last season either- Biel (draw) 3-3; St Gallen (lost 1-0); West Brom (draw 2-2); Yeovil (draw 2-2) and how did that season go ? All this worrying about pre season games are massively over the top tbh, they ste friendlies for fitness and match sharpness. We showed some pretty decent shapes against West Brom (reserves) though, De Ridder's best game for us, Richardson powering up and down the line and getting telling passes into the box - a notable improvement in performance and fitness on the season before - so you'd hope we'd show a similar improvement this pre-season. Ward-Prowse and maybe Puncheon aside no-one seems to have stood out - plus there's the concern that some players may have hit their peak and can't step up.
