Dr. Kucho Posted 19 August, 2012 Share Posted 19 August, 2012 35 minutes to go and I am a nervous wreck, this game is going to be terrible for my health. COYR, great line up and sad to see Rickie on the bench but he will get his chances this season.

JustMike Posted 19 August, 2012 Share Posted 19 August, 2012 Look. I'm 90% sure the team v Wigan will look so much stronger than the one playing today. No one is expecting a victory. We may as well wait until S. Davis is fully fit before playing him, we may aswell give Jay a go, same with Guly, Punch and Prowse. Next week we could have Ramirez, we could have Phillips, we could have a new CB, we could have S. Davis starting. No panic today no matter what the result is IMO. a valid point, they could almost treat today like a pre-season game, if you get my meaning
beatlesaint Posted 19 August, 2012 Share Posted 19 August, 2012 Hes not been good there though. A waste of his talent. Would imagine guly from the right, punch from the left and jay up to. And in terms of the flanks. Who else do we have? Hence our urgency to sort... Yeah exactly, a waste of his talents. My point being we play/practice this new system all pre-season, players dont look entirely comfortable with it and now, on day 1 are we changing it yet again and putting Jay through the iddle for the first time after sticking him out wide up to now ? I'm confused as to why we are playing a system that, as yet, we clearly dont have the players to play it !! thats madness imho.

mikee Posted 19 August, 2012 Share Posted 19 August, 2012 We want more mobility when we get the ball, hence jay. We also have no other options on the flanks. Not sure what others expected. Lallana wide left and Lambert in the hole would have been much better. Lallana is going to move there anyway if ramirez joins

Lallana is going to move there anyway if ramirez joins Well, it wouldn't would it Adkins clearly wants 3 in midfield. Lambert in the hole would not do that, he would not drop back to our own penalty area and then break if required

Saint Charlie Posted 19 August, 2012 Share Posted 19 August, 2012 Madness is thinking we have a chance today. Just let this game go as a "free hit" Our season starts properly next week This. City won 18 of 19 at home last season, we should just enjoy being in the big time and try to start well and take some positives. For those moaning about the selection Lambert issue aside there surely isn't anything controversial?
CanadaSaint Posted 19 August, 2012 Share Posted 19 August, 2012 The starting line-up and bench selections don't look like a team set up to a) avoid a heavy defeat, or b) score early and hang on. It looks like a team set up to play with some style and see where the chips fall. Fair enough in my book.

FFS, I hope this place isn't indicative of the way our support is as a whole. This is probably our toughest game of the season, it would have always been a big ask to get anything from this whenever it happened. At least we are getting it out of the way early. Stu Man Do Posted 19 August, 2012 Share Posted 19 August, 2012 I feel a bit disappointed for Lambo, he deserves to start if as we're told by the experts on here this is a free game what better time for some sentimentality for the bloke who's goals gave gotten us here. Agree with the others who have said seems ridic to have played Jay out left wing for the whole of pre season to now wack him up front against Kompany. That isn't going to do much for his confidence! Hope we can put in a brave performance and we will see what happens! Que Cera Cera!

NA thinking long term IMHO. Blood a few new guys and keep your talent safe for games you can win. Looks like he's hoping for a draw. OR looking to hold Man City before putting on a strong strike force and upping the pace in the last 15-20 minutes to snatch a win. A draw however is the best we can hope for today methinks. I think most people view our strongest team with SRL and potentially Davis in it. That said, I'm no manager, I've not seen them train and there's a very good reason Adkins takes his pay packet. saintsmike25 Posted 19 August, 2012 Share Posted 19 August, 2012 Lambert has clearly been off-the-pace in pre-season and hasn't put as much hard-work in as the rest of the team. So why should Adkins pick him, he needs to send a message out that no player is above being dropped. Also I'd much rather Adkins dropped Lambert for an almost unwinnable game than one where we REALLY need a fired-up Rickie Lambert. Good management in my opinion.
