Man City Build Up

This idea that Adkins will chuck in a load of young players and see how we get on... not a snowball's chance in hell.

You will see a team that understand's Citeh's strengths and plays to ours. Unless you believe that after two seasons of near-perfect tactical analysis, he is now reverting to Burley player scrabble, picking them out of the green bag at random...

the answer lies in the squad numbers really. Typical first team today I think.

1,2,13,5,6,4,8,20,7,9,42 or whatever number Guly is now.

Two key questions in our squad numbers unless I'm being really thick...

Who will be our new numbers 3 and 10? New left/right back and new winger/frontman?

Well Gaston came out and said we've given him the number 10 shirt, so him..!

I think we're after 2 players that will be real starters, top quality, and 2 players that can add cover.

I don't think anyone is suggesting that' date=' well I'm certainly not. I took it as presumed that any player that Adkins 'threw in' would be done so because he believed they fit best into the system we need to play against City.[/quote']

On that we agree. But people have talked about risk taking. I just don't see Adkins taking risks. He's not that sort of guy. The two words I would use for him are measured and positive.

Buttner and Ramirez if you believe all the rumours. You have to allow for personal choices though in the case of Lallana,Puncheon and Fox. 10 is number to which all continental attacking midfielders aspire, in our actual case it should be Lallana but as he's got a fixation on 20 it will go to Ramirez if he signs.

My personal selection today....

Davis

Clyne Fonte Jos Fox

Morgan

Punch Davis Lallana

Rikeeee Jay Rod

Subs.. Gazza, Seaborne, Shaw or Chappers/De Ridder(fitness ?) Sharpe, JWP and Guly.

We might see...Shaw LM and SD at RM..with Punch on bench...with Adam in middle of Shaw and Davis...

We're more likely to play the formation we have been using in the friendlies...

Lallana and Davis in central midfield, Schneiderlin as the holding midfielder with Rodriguez on the left and Guly or Puncheon on the right.

Just praying it is a respectable scoreline

Well, I'm not prostrating myself before a deity, but we feel the same things.

I am bricking it, just want the match over but at the same time, am amazingly excited. The return to the Premiership has been a long time coming and shocking big teams in games like these has always been a highlight of being a Saints fan.

That all said, yep, let's keep it respectable.

What the absolute ****?

-----------------Davis

Clyne-----Fonte-----Hooiveld-----Fox

---------Morgan-----Davis

----------------Lallana

Puncheon------------------Rodriguez

---------------Lambert

Basically what we've been practising. City's fullbacks aren't world beaters, and if we do get anything, chances are it will come from us getting in the gaps between centre back and full back. City's middle is formidable and we're unlikely to get any change out of Toure, De Jong, Kompany etc. If it doesn't work, it's nonetheless practice playing like that, which we'll need to do a lot this season.

Right, as far as I was told, unless anything has changed since 10am this morning, Lambert is on the bench and Jay is the lone striker. I dont know who is on the wings but we have gone for pace so could be anyone from Puncheon, Guly, De Ridder, Lee etc.

If its wrong then i apologise but in a way I hope I'm wrong!

Could be AL left and JWP in midfield with Davis and Morgan. Punch right.

Possibly although I see Lallana as a key CM for us. He needs to break from the 3 and push up and support the striker at every opportunity. I'm expecting Puncheon on the right and Guly on the left. That's how I'd personally play it. Guly gets stick but he does get back and support the defence.

Can't help but feel disappointed for Lambert if it's true he isn't starting. Horses for courses and all that, but this guy deserves to start in our first game back.

See the point but the aim is to get the best result possible and I can kind of see NA thinking if he is left out. He isn't mobile and we won't have a lot of the ball.

There is no room for sentiment in this league. You play the best available for the job at any given time
