Cheese on Toast Posted 13 August, 2012 Share Posted 13 August, 2012 Man City to win by 2 or 3 unfortunately I reckon. If we make new signings this week, they'll probably only make the bench, so can't see that making a whole lot of difference, although a good signing does act as a morale boost. Although we're llikely to lose, we'll be well up for it and make some positives to take forward. -----------------Davis------------------ Clyne-----Fonte-----Hooiveld-----Fox ---------Morgan-----Davis------------- ----------------Lallana------------------ Puncheon-------------------Rodriguez ---------------Lambert----------------- Subs: Gazzaniga, Seaborne, Richardson, JWP, Guly, Chaplow, Sharp Bench could change if we sign anyone this week, but otherwise stick with what we've been working on. I'm tempted to start with Gazzaniga and JWP, as they can both add something to the team, but a possible roasting like this game probably isn't the time. Maybe against Wigan. Make the risks against city where we're likely to lose anyway, we don't want to take those risks in a game against Wigan which we could definately win
The9 Posted 13 August, 2012 Share Posted 13 August, 2012 All you pessimists are forgetting Man City are one of those teams we always seem to do well against. We will surprise millions by getting at least a draw. I was at the Etihad when we won up there last time, great headed goal from Beatts from Marians cross. Yeah, this is true. We confidently beat a world class team consisting of D James, S Jihai, R Dunne , S Distin, M Tarnat, S Wright-Phillips, P Bosvelt (C Reyna, 61), A Sibierski, S McManaman (T Sinclair, 11), N Anelka, R Fowler (P Wanchope, 60) SUN JIHAI, PAUL BOSVELT AND THINGY TARNAT FFS, HOW CAN WE LOSE ! I think I'd rather A Niemi, P Telfer, C Lundekvam, D Higginbotham, G Le Saux, D Prutton, Y Folly, R Delap, M Pahars (A Svensson, 84), J Beattie (F Hall, 89), K Phillips than the current side (Folly aside). PS We also lost 2-1 to them the following season, so we didn't win the last time we played them (though we did the last time I went, like you). jawillwill Posted 13 August, 2012 Share Posted 13 August, 2012 Um, it's pretty clear that song's aimed at Man U... I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or what here. You're being a bit naive if that's what you really think. Why would they have been talking about it this week (just a few days before WE play them - not United). They're planning on winding us all up, and it's probably going to work!

david in sweden Posted 13 August, 2012 Share Posted 13 August, 2012 (edited) Everyone trying to predict our starting line-up, whilst I think it will likely be the same as started on Saturday - despite the result. More interesting though is Man.City's injury list. Joe Hart has a back injury - not from picking the ball out of the back of the net, I'm sure. Micah Richards is out for a month with an ankle injury..and Mario Balotelli..(reportedly) has conjuctivitis and won't be available for the Engalnd v. Italy friendly..... .however, even if the possible absence of these three raises hopes ..unfortunately, they still have a pretty formidable squad to choose form. hasper57saint Posted 13 August, 2012 Share Posted 13 August, 2012 Every now and then a 'Minor' team does the business on a 'Major' team. Sunday is the day that Southampton FC outplay Man City and come away with three points. This is counter to all you miserable defeatists who appear to believe we'll lose. They have eleven players and so do we.Half of City players can't even communicate with each other and that's why they are so good on paper. When Mancini says 'Go ahead back' the Sun,Mirror,Express, Mail and all the other tabloids think he's saying something profound. COYS I'm a believer.

Everyone always goes on about how good he is for football but I haven't seen him Referee a decent game. I suppose better than D'urso and he should be a Deadman but not really difficult. It highlights areas of improvement that everyone on here seem to be worried about, but recognises the positives from pre season and on transfers. Good piece Gordon Simpson, for once. westofshannonsaint Posted 13 August, 2012 Share Posted 13 August, 2012 I think they will want to send a message out on the first day of the season. Can't see there being a situation where they go 2 up and mercifully cruise. 5-0? 6... I'm not gonna pay too much attention to this result. The real questions will be asked at Wigan, who are our real competitors this year. We need to be beating teams like Wigan at home if we are to stay up. I expect us to be beaten well on Sunday, and after yesterday I'm going to try to get Tevez into my fantasy team. 4 points for the opening 4 games would be a great return IMO & remember, Spurs lost 3-0 & 5-1 in their opening fixtures against Man U & Man C last season. Even the mighty Swansea lost 0-4 to Man C on the opening day last year. & IIrc they were the only newly promoted club to take points from city/utd last year (city @ home?). it's lucky for us there is 20 teams in the league. I don't expect us to come from Manchester with any points, but I have a feeling that there might be a loan signing on the bus. as said above Wigan is the real test & FYI the transfer window doesn't close until sept 30th. trousers Posted 15 August, 2012 Share Posted 15 August, 2012 The BBC's guide to the premier league just published on their website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18857152 SOUTHAMPTON 2011-2012 season Championship: 2nd FA Cup: Fourth round Carling Cup: Fourth round Players in: Jay Rodriguez (Burnley) £7m*, Steven Davis (Rangers) £800,000*, Nathaniel Clyne (Crystal Palace) Undisclosed, Paulo Gazzaniga (Gillingham) Undisclosed. Players out: Dan Harding (Nottingham Forest) Undisclosed, Bartosz Bialkowski (Notts County) Free, Harlee Dean (Brentford) Free, Ryan Doble (Shrewsbury) Free, Lee Holmes (Preston) Free, Tommy Forecast (Gillingham) Loan. Summer so far: Southampton hand forward Guly do Prado a one-year contract extension after helping them to successive promotions from League One. Their bid to sign defender Alexander Buttner is hindered by a third party claiming they are owed a percentage of the transfer fee. Former Saints defender Claus Lundekvam claims there was a culture of spot-fixing at the club, but his old team-mate Francis Benali denies this. Midfielder Jack Cork will miss the start of the season after suffering an ankle injury in pre-season following his return from the Olympics. Key fixtures: They face a tough start to life back in the Premier League - they open away to Manchester City and, after a home game with Wigan, they host Manchester United on 2 September. Southampton's end-of-season run-in is relatively straightforward, with their last seven games including matches with Reading (a), West Ham (h), Swansea (a), West Brom (h), Sunderland (a) and Stoke (h). Full Southampton fixture list BBC Radio Solent's Adam Blackmore: "Saints head back into the Premier League after a seven-year absence with momentum on their side. "Two promotions in two seasons under Nigel Adkins have provided that, along with an excellent team spirit and considerable backing from executive chairman Nicola Cortese. "That backing has continued this summer with progressive signings in the likes of Jay Rodriguez and Steven Davis, and the club are giving themselves a platform on and off the pitch for the long term. "Their ambitions for this season are beyond mere survival and whilst some pundits have them pencilled in for going straight back down, I just don't see that happening." Jack Posted 15 August, 2012 Share Posted 15 August, 2012 Just because stranger things have happened, I just put a little tiny bit of the money I won from P*mpey's defeat on a Saints win. Saints win is 18/1 - £5 Lallana to score 1st 20/1 - £2 And the goodun, bare with me... We somehow break into their half, carve them open, and someone gets taken down in the box resulting in a straight red. Up steps Lambert - 1-0, then defend like f*ck. Leeds away style 'defending like f*ck'. Scorecast - Rickie Lambert to score first and Saints 1-0 is 240/1, so I stuck a cheeky £2 on. Stranger things have happened.
