Man City Build Up

So because some predict a loss to the champions that is showing a lack of faith? I think your post demonstrates a lack of reality.

It`s not the loss it`s the degree of predicted loss, that is and could be so disheartening...

Do every team destined to play Man City expect to be thrashed?

I imagine the supporters of a lot of them do, yes. Especially clubs that have just been promoted and are yet to find their feet in the top division.

Last season City had Swansea on opening day, and mullered them 4-0. I doubt there were any Swansea fans who expected anything from the game. Then they got on with the rest of the season; just as we will.

If anything it's less disheartening. If you go to Man City expecting to get beat and give it your best shot, you wont really be that disappointed. If you go there full of hope that you might get something, you walk away feeling gutted when you lose 4-0.

expecting a 4 or 5-0 defeat, that is just realistic based on the two sides, at least the pressure is off saints really as no one will be expecting them to get a result there. Not sure if i'm looking forward to watching it, the big one is Wigan the following week to see how we bounce back.

Well then we are in agreement. I have no idea how we do but the manner of our loss will be the important thing (if we do lose as expected.)

Uhm... guess it depends on how we want the club progress. We could afterall do what Stoke and Bolton did, buy older experienced pros and be happy with survival with never any real ambition beyond being part of the prem, or we could look at younger players less experience and try and buld something for the long term - but yes get hammered a few times and hope we have enough to stay up. Guess its all about what sort of philosophy we as fans have about the game, success at any cost or be entertained , ook to develop players and a playing style we enjoy... even if it takes longer and the consequences are possible yo yo ing for a few seasons...

3-1 citeh but a good game and an some signs of prog ress and I will be happy...ish

Just like Stoke. Who finished 12th in their season after promotion and finished in midtable every season since their promotion. Have got to the FACup final and played in Europe. all done despite having no ambition and being content just to survive.

2: Chelsea - £190.7M

3: Stoke - £60.1M

Thank you. You do have your uses. So Franks Cousin is wrong as i suggested above and they have shown ambition.

Yes he is. Although I think their owner has said the funding won't continue to anywhere near the same level in the future. I think they may be on the decline now, their form in 2012 certainly suggests that.

I think they'll be In the relegation battle this season. However as their spending shows, they have shown ambition.

Yes I am rong when talking about spending - but taht is not what I am talking about a you well know - its about long term investment in promising youth and building something rather than buying older pos that may give you that mid table security if that is what a side is happy with - unless you spend 150mil you will not get into the top six... unless you spot talent, develop your own and build a side of 'you win nothing with kids' kids...

Turks you are not that dim not to know exactly the point I was making, but if it makes you feel good to point out whatt is 'wrong' with everyone elses post, feel free, but FFS it must be miserable being you if thats what you need to give yourself an ego boost

well their academy has just been given cat a status so clearly they are spotting their own talent and building for the future.

FC you're not that dim to think that SFC are the only ones capable of bringing through young players but if that level of delusion gives you an ego boost then enjoy it.

...difference is clubs that have the confidence and bottle to give them a chance rather than sticking with 'Delaps' et al - fear is what seems to drive most of ther lower half's selection and transfer policy and it manifests itself in their style of play - sure it works, but it hardly means fans are entertained. If football for you is all tribalism, smart 'gear' and attitude and results and status amongst other fans means the most, then fine, enjoy survival and PL status. I prefer to see it as a sport in which we strive to play attrcative, entertaining football and if the compromise is we lose, so be it - aspiration is a good thing in my book, but patience is necessary and most owners, fans dont afford their clubs that luxury.... I hope we do.

Exciting game, TV means I don't miss it! :D

2-0 saints city end the game with 8 men on the field. Lallana gets taken down in the box in the first min, Lambert converts the pen and that Kompany fellow is given a straight red. Steven Davis scores a screamer about 60 mins after Ballotelli punches Clyne for winning the ball of him and their keeper handles the ball out of the area for a second yellow...

Can dream!

Poster by Rodney Marsh (ex Sky pundit (tsunami/toon-army)) on Twitter:

RodneyMarsh10: It's official just done £2600 #MCFC TO SCORE 4 or more v Southampton @5/1

wish me luck

Damn sight better value than Lambert for Prem top scorer at 80/1...!

I think they will want to send a message out on the first day of the season. Can't see there being a situation where they go 2 up and mercifully cruise. 5-0? 6... I'm not gonna pay too much attention to this result. The real questions will be asked at Wigan, who are our real competitors this year. We need to be beating teams like Wigan at home if we are to stay up.

5-0 or 6-0 loss could be a real welcOme to the prem. it'll show is how unprepared we are. You only have to see the likes of Sharp on twitter dribbling over how good Torres and Tecez are to realise we are not on the same level.

Just hope I'm wrong!!!!

more like 39 actually, see they've signed Rodwell today as well.

They had squad numbers consecutively up to 70 pre-season - and the 25 man squad limit doesn't have to be named until 2 weeks after we play them. So maybe another 50 injuries ? ;)

All you pessimists are forgetting Man City are one of those teams we always seem to do well against. We will surprise millions by getting at least a draw. I was at the Etihad when we won up there last time, great headed goal from Beatts from Marians cross.

Man City to win by 2 or 3 unfortunately I reckon. If we make new signings this week, they'll probably only make the bench, so can't see that making a whole lot of difference, although a good signing does act as a morale boost. Although we're llikely to lose, we'll be well up for it and make some positives to take forward.

-----------------Davis------------------

Clyne-----Fonte-----Hooiveld-----Fox

---------Morgan-----Davis-------------

----------------Lallana------------------

Puncheon-------------------Rodriguez

---------------Lambert-----------------

Subs: Gazzaniga, Seaborne, Richardson, JWP, Guly, Chaplow, Sharp

Bench could change if we sign anyone this week, but otherwise stick with what we've been working on. I'm tempted to start with Gazzaniga and JWP, as they can both add something to the team, but a possible roasting like this game probably isn't the time. Maybe against Wigan.
