Wiggles31 Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 The time has come. 4 - 1 loss to Saints after a much better second half and a Puncheon goal after the break to make it 3 - 1.
S-Clarke Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 We'll put in a good effort, but will end up losing 4 or 5-0. They are just too strong for us in every area, that's not a dis-service to us but our players just aren't at their level. In many ways this should be seen as a bonus match got out of the way nice and early.
Thedelldays Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 If we keep them to 3 goals, we would have done well
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 This thread is going to be a bundle of laughs....
Saint Charlie Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Agree, just looking for us to make them work for a win and hopefully show some kind of threat when we have the ball. A respectable loss and move on to Wigan.
madruss Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Let's face it, if we signed Vidic this week to replace Fonte we'd still struggle to keep out that man. city attack. I'm hoping for a good team performance, defending from the front and giving a good account of ourselves. The important thing is to follow up with a win over Wigan
maxi_sopez Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Top tip dont watch the community shield.. It's making me feel a bit sick! Oh god.
The9 Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 2-2... then 3-2 City in the dying embers Ha! Have you watched any football in the last 5 years? We'll lose by 4.
itchen_dan Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 A lot of Sky pundits came up with the idea of 'free hit' games last season and this is one of those. We have nothing to lose. Not expected to win, expected to be thrashed. Go out there, attack, give it a good go, and who knows what may happen? If we lose, we lose! Just look what QPR managed at the end of last season at the Ethiad...
The Kraken Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Top tip dont watch the community shield.. It's making me feel a bit sick! Oh god. This. I do keep having to remind myself that Chelsea are down to 10 men, but even so its scary viewing.
Mowgli Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Treat it as part of the learning curve. This will be the toughest match of the season but hey - it's only 90 minutes and both sides have 11 players!
Georgie Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Fully expecting us to lose, 5 or 6 nil. Just wish it wasn't on Sky
Colinjb Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Head: 4-0 Defeat. Few positives to bring. Heart: We go down fighting and really make Man City graft.
DG Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 We'll get smashed, but a consolation goal or two would be nice.
The9 Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Shoot from distance if Hart is still out!! I'd assumed he was still being rested, is he injured?
shirleysfc Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 I'd assumed he was still being rested, is he injured? Nursing a back injury, may not link up with England mid week.
Saint-Reece Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 I'd assumed he was still being rested, is he injured? Slight back injury apparently
hypochondriac Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 3-0 to City and the need for some new signings intensifies.
Cheese on Toast Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 2-0 to us with goals from Dan Seaborne and Steve De Ridder
SteveBish Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Still think a 3-1 loss would actually be a not bad result anything better good going anything worse not exactly a surprise
The9 Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Nursing a back injury, may not link up with England mid week. He's not actually injured then. Great.
shurlock Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 2-0 to us with goals from Dan Seaborne and Steve De Ridder No Guly?
Griffo Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 We'll hold out until 30 minutes or so, concede and be losing 1-0 at half time and then concede 2/3 more in the latter stages of the second half to lose 3 or 4-0.
Chris Marsden = Genius Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 4-0 Two early goals and then they'll cruise it.
S-Clarke Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 3-0 to City and the need for some new signings intensifies. Even with new signings we'd struggle to get anything here, so losing at City will not intensify the need for new signings.
hypochondriac Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Even with new signings we'd struggle to get anything here, so losing at City will not intensify the need for new signings. Losing heavily with a very poor performance means it will (if we haven't strengthened before then.) It isn't about the result but about our performance that matters.
skintsaint Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 I said this evening anything under six will do. Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Bearsy Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 I scouted Man City a bit today cos like a lot of us probably I don't know alot about them cos they haven't qualified to play us in the Championship or League 1 lately. That's not to say they are a bad side! They have got some players what could probably be called better than some of our boys! They've got this one player called Aguerros who is a Billy Sharp type, and this other player in midfield called Toray (sp?) who is like Hammonds but possibly even more dynamic! Their manager (he's called Robert Mancini) is obviously sh!t scared of facing Adkins innovative new 4-3-3 formation, cos he has set them up in a 3-4-1-2 specifically to counter the threat of us dominating possesion in central areas. Problem with this is he's relying on his central strikers like Aguerros and Tevez getting the better of Jos Hoiveld and Jose Fonte so he might be onto a loser on that note! It's also interesting to note that they are not even historically the greatest club in Manchester! That is not to say they are minnows! They may not be the biggest club in their immediate locality like what we are, and they certainly struggle financially compared to us (to date they have not been able to afford a single player this transfer window!) but they will certainly be a tough nut to crack, at least on their own ground. I predict a 2-2 draw and I'm sure Robert Mancini would bite your hand off for that!

VectisSaint Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 (to date they have not been able to afford a single player this transfer window!) Jack Rodwell from Everton apparently, subject to medical tomorrow, £15m.
Bearsy Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Too little too late I suspect! They should try and get their business done early like us!
sfc4prem Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 5-0 to City. Just get this game out of the way.
Golden Balls Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Stranger things have happened....but we will lose this by a number of goals, and baring a freak result the day before, we'll be sitting at the bottom of the table. Nothing to worry about though.
Gingeletiss Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 1-0 Saints...........you just have to believe!
Cheese on Toast Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Defend, defend, defend! Don't ever be a manager, whatever happens they'll score, we need to go forward
Dark Munster Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Park the bus, 10-0-0, and try to keep it below a 3 goal loss.
saintstr1 Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 It is amazing how many first games of the season end in draws , so I am predicting a 2-2.
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 If any players or staff read this and i would assume some do they must be really delighted with the faith shown to them by most of the previous posters... Perhaps they will say "boss can we throw in the towel now and move straight to relegation because we have no chance" Thank god they won`t as they will have more stomach for the fight than the doom predictors on here.

Would you care to show us just one post that mentions relegation in this thread? Other than your own, of course. Just one post would be great. Thanks.
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Would you care to show us just one post that mentions relegation in this thread? Other than your own, of course. Just one post would be great. Thanks. I did not say anyone mentioned relegation...
hypochondriac Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 I did not say anyone mentioned relegation... So because some predict a loss to the champions that is showing a lack of faith? I think your post demonstrates a lack of reality.
Lighthouse Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 I'm going with 4-0 to City too. Anything better and I wont be too unhappy, this game is about competitive experience and keeping the GD respectable for this season. Let's not "just go for it" because there is nothing to lose. If we go to OT, Emirates, WHL, Stamford etc and lose 1-0 we will be doing a heck of a lot better than a lot of the teams we will be fighting against. I would actually be happy if we lose 1-0. Welcome to the Premier League.
