Blackpool report Saints over Phillips approach

As I said on another thread, it's probably a complete non-event over dramatized by holloway who has a bee in his bonnet over most events. He just doesn't want to loose his best player, and he's going to do anything to stop that happening.

At least, if anything, it shows our interest...!

All in all, would be a fantastic signing! Someone I've wanted for a long long time! Great player, pace, power, goals, drifts in and links up with forwards, used to playing current formation with Blackpool, young, English... ticks every single box!!

Illegal approach or not, get him in!

And lets be honest why would he want to play for some poxy rubbish club like Blackpool when he can play for us?

That's why Holloway is going to try every trick in the book to block a transfer, as he knows that the kids head would be turned by anything we could offer.

Can much happen from them "reporting" us? A fine? Transfer embargo?

Holloway, for some reason, doesn't really like us. Unless I'm just seeing something that's not actually there.

And on Phillips - would be pleased with this. Young, pacey, tricky, good prospect.

Blackpool are a bit of a joke club really. They are punching way above their weight but they have terrible support and won't see another premiership promotion in my lifetime. He would be mad to stay there.

Would love this one to happen, but unsure whether these claims will complicate any potential deal.

Blackpool do not want to lose Phillips, and understandably so. He has pace in abundance, can play on either flank and is exactly what we need right now.

Fingers crossed a deal can be struck, but based on these accusations, this one could get messy!

Because we sang "Premier League, You're 'aving a larf" at his team a few months before they got relegated and proved it, then finished below us the following season. If it had been something about combine harvesters...

Nope he made comments about us before, I think when we were trying to sign someone whilst he was leicester manager...

Seeing as he reckons he can prove it, what sort of punishment does said club face ?

Chelsea were given a transfer embargo for 2 windows after the tapping up of Ashley Cole. Abramovich, Mourinho, Cole and his agent secretly met in a hotel. But after appeal the embargo was lifted. Cole was fined £100,000 and obviously is relationship with Arsenal became sour. If this is the punishment for secretly meeting which I highly doubt we would have done I can't see us getting into any trouble at all. I'd just like to add I'd be shocked if NC conducted any business like this. I think we have nothing to worry about.

But is Holloway still having a laugh - that's the important question. Hope he can clarify.

Be a shame if we have made an illegal approach. Adkins always likes to say we "do things the right way".

Plus Blackpool are a good club and despite Holloway's ego - he seems a good bloke.

No he doesn't at all. His cheeky chappy persona hides a very bitter and hateful individual.

I agree, it doesnt seem to be NCs style. Sounds more like agent skulduggery - trying to wrangle a move, but got caught with hand in cookie jar so fobbing blame off on club.

That was quite a severe punishment though - such an embargo could get us relegated.

Ahhhh finally we get some "news" of the overdue Matt Phillips bid. Can we get Thomas Ince as well, or do we think he's got a bit of an attitude like his old man ?

Thank you for including the first name. Took me 9 posts of "wtf is up?!" before I realised which Phillips we're talking about... I was distinctly under the impression that there is a Phillips from Blackpool whom we're not too happy about ;)

Matt Phillips would be interesting, but as others have said, I hope we approach it the right way if we do go for him...

Trouble is in these days of Players Agents the water gets muddied, all you need is for the Agent to say over diner Southampton are interested in you, as he has had a "legal" conversation to put the feelers out. Then in training the Blackpool dressing room nark overhears Phillips saying "Southampton are in the market for me".

I bet now we are back in the Prem we wished we had split on Arsenal for granting Oxo's parents wish to give him a medical mid season 'without the club knowing'.

Of course like the Football League, the FA have the ability to apply the rules as they go along.

why the hostility towards Blackpool? Excellent past history and impressive recently getting promotion, the way the went about trying to stay up and then how they bounced back last season. Why are they a joke? Took us to pieces at their place, all whilst doing it on a budget. That has to be applauded, not mocked. Without Marcus it could quite easily have been us having to live on a shoe string, if we had survived at all. Besides, it's not so long ago that everyone used to say we were punching above our weight in the Prem.

I know there is a pecking order, but teaks below us in that order aren't jokes.

I'd be disappointed if we weren't contacting agents long before a deal is struck with the club to find out if the player would be game and the likely demands. If we aren't that might explain why deals possible have fallen through and take a while. Edited by Chez

Well Nixon seemed to think we were doing all our deals in the right way, I just think this will end up being Phillips wanting to leave and Holloway saying something like this to try and stop him.

Matt Phillips, a player I would love to see us get. In the right way of course.

But we need defenders.... I am still worried we are too fragile at the back.

strange, because personally I am very concerned we won't score enough goals. Fox, Hoover, Fonte and Clyne will do fine.

you mean we never contact agents and ask what wage their player wants? I don't believe that for a second. Nixon isn't going to start suggesting we tap up players. His source would dissappear off his radar.

Just guesswork from you though.

For all you and I know we don't.

not so much a guess more common sense. If a player has an agent why wouldn't you call him and ask him if his player might be interested in a move and ballpark wages? Besides the article confirms this is exactly what we do (if this paper is as believable as Nixon's) so whatever Nixon has said in the past pretty much means nothing.

In the end what does it matter, all that matters is whether we get the player and whether he can do it at the top level. He was their stand out player in the FA cup a few seasons back. Strong and pacey. Ideal for our needs. Concerned about his late season loss of form mind.

Another bulls**t article from the Daily Fail, no where in that article or the interview in question does it say it's us that has tapped up Phillips, it could be any PL club, they've just decided (in their infinite wisdom) to put our name to the headline of the article to attract attention.

The Mail have just made up the 'fact' that it's us...it could be any PL club.

That was my thought too! Yah, we've made an approach for Matt Phillips! It is Matt, I take it, not Kevin?????

Of course they have, of course. It's their anti Saints agenda coming out and they've totally made it up for attention. When they dreamed up the story in Daily Mail towers they sat around thinking which Premier League club would draw most attention to the article. They could have picked any premier league club, Man United, Tottenham, Arsenal, but no, they decided the club that would get this article most attention was Southampton.

Is he going to report Everton, Wigan and Swansea too?.......or is it just his way of trying to up the price 'cos it's us.?

As soon as we are interested in any player the price at least doubles because if Southampton want him he must be amazing.

It would be naive to think that transfer business is done through formal channels only. Holloway says he will report the club (let's assume Saints), to the authorities, not that he has reported them. Probably a warning shot and at the same time a bit of public pressure on his player. Though I doubt Saints will be remotely concerned with Holloway's threats and if the player wants to move, as we all know, eventually he'll move.

More like Cortese has gone ABOVE Holloway's head to the main man at Blackpool and he doesn't like not being in control?

I would have thought that your post is a load of Bollix.

Phillips is a good player and quite rightly Holloway wants to keep him

It is very similar to the AOC last year when most Saints Fans were adopting a different opinion
