Saints 0 Udinese 4

Attendance of 3744.

Friendly attendances this time round have been nothing short of abject. Utterly rubbish, even the Skates got more than that against Bolton. Completely unsurprising given the pricing structure too. You'd think/hope the club would learn, but I very much doubt it.

Well perhaps one of the reasons the attendances have fallen with each friendly is because the matches have been bloody boring. Thats why i didnt bother tonight, despite having a ticket. This new formation worries me, even Adam Blackmore has tweeted that the players dont look comfortable with it and is/was this the summer to experiment ?

Time will tell I suppose.

Well, money is tight and the Olympics is on.

I'll repeat. The skates got more than we did. And we knoe that their support is notoriously awful.

I don't blame anything other than the pricing and lack of marketing of the games. These are the ones that families should be being targetted for.

I've heard there's some athletics thing going in in London too.

Yeah but you cant tell me that 30,000 other Saints fans have gone to the Olympics?!

I would've gone to more than just the Liebherr cup but for the prices placed on the fixtures - no chance! Didn't go to Ajax as it was on TV. The games have been just too expensive. Lower the price, get more in and recoup whatever you lost on ticket sales by people buying from concourse and club shop. Big mistake made IMO.

Add up all the attendances from Ajax, Udinese, Wolves and Arsenal/Anderlecht and it is quite a healthy number for pre-season home attendances. Does it matter it is over a number of games? It is very rare for Saints to have more than one pre-season friendly and most people won't want to goto more than one. Look at the pre-season home games as a collective rather than individually.

Well in Dan. Some people can't bear to hear any criticism of the club, no matter how trivial. I even went to one of the friendlies, value for money at £15 was hard to justify! No more than a tenner for friendlies and a kid a quid IMO.

I for one got a season ticket on the basis that I wouldn't go to any cup/pre-season games. If the number of ST's sold has gone through the roof then maybe a lot of others are doing the same.

Pricing structure has been completely ridiculous, especially considering the number of friendliest we've had at St Mary's this year, why can't we just go back to having one like we used to. Sub 4000 attendances are an embarrassment.

Erm, no MLG. I don't think I'll do that, thanks. That would be silly.

Come on, even for you that is clutching at straws.

So if 1000 people turned up for the Wigan game and 32k for United, that is fine as it works out not too bad per game.

Perhaps NA should keep working on that new formation and stick to 4-4-2 for the first few games, seems this new set up has neutered us going forward and not helped defensively.

Agreed, if Udinese, as good as they may be, can take us apart in a friendly what the hell will City, United and Arsenal do to us in competitve matches ?

I'm not sure about this new system but glad we tried it during pre season. Back to 442 for me though.

Regarding attendances, what do you expect with 4 home friendlies priced so high with one of them even being on tv!? The club need to realise they made a mistake with prices and learn for next season.

You do wonder if with the squad we have we're now in a place thats out of our league

We will be if the players aren't confident playing in a formation they havent played in for the 2 years that they have been successful !!

If you want to change it around you need players in who are comfortable with the set up, and I wonder if ours will be. It doesnt look like it.

That's entirely my point, balls. These games should be much cheaper, should be targetted at families bringing the kids along (not on a Saturday evening FFS), and should be marketed properly so that non-hardcore Saints fans are encouraged to attend.

Not at all, people are used to spending on one home pre-season friendly. Saints had four this summer, people simply weren't going to goto all of them, so to combine attendances isn't a daft way to look at pre-season attendances. You can also factor in things like the home Olympics and the Ajax game being live on TV. Who cares anyway, most league games next season will be 30,000+ sellouts at St Mary's.

Wonder what the club's thinking was behind this friendly.

1. match against top quality opposition to bring the squad down to earth, really testing them.

2. quality opposition to try and promote the club and/or sell tickets for the game as a higher profile match.

3. Adkins got it wrong thinking the team could do ok against udinese and go into the season on a high.

:?

I cant see Adkins and Crosby suddenly dropping the new formation in favour of a stagnant, out of date one after working on it since the start of July! the 4-3-2-1 is here to stay by the look of things.

Even by your ridiculous aggregate scenario, we didn't sell half a ground's worth of tickets. If you think that's decent then that's your opinion; I see this as an error on a few counts and a missed opportunity to get families and kids buying in to the Saints. that 55,000 seater stadium of yours is going to need filling somehow.
