Good thread that one about long range goals...

I agree, be interesting to hear from someone who went to the game as they could elaborate on what we're doing wrong.

I knew this would be difficult tonight but this seems much too easy by the sounds of it. We need to start converting any sort of chances we get because in the PL, and as proved tonight, you will be punished.

officialsaints: #SaintsFC still plugging away – Puncheon's cross finds its way to Rodriguez via Lallana, but the new-boy's header is held by Brkic.

As others have mentioned over the course of pre season, Lambert just seems so anonymous? Doesnt seem to be mentioned in attacks or score goals? As it stands, Jay Rod would be upfront for me v City and Punch on one wing and Lallana/Guly on other.

officialsaints: HALF TIME: SAINTS 0-3 UDINESE #saintsfc

officialsaints: Three superbly-taken Udinese goals the difference here. Some good phases of play by #SaintsFC, but their Italian visitors look superb.

We look awful here and Udinese look very good. Movement from us looks much worse than it is normally. Players don't have anywhere near as many options as they should have when on the ball.

What do you expect when you've got a championship defence playing against champions league players. Unless we get two class centre halves in we can expect more of the same this season. Hopefully this is a wake up call for all you clowns saying half of our team should be in the England squad and this is the best Saints team in history.

Doesn't make any sense though does it, centre backs do not prevent long range "worldies". Of course we need CBs for the season, no one seriously thinks otherwise and I'ms sure they will arrive, but it is just as concerning that we seem unable to take our chances up front. Our strikers and attacking MFs (apart from Sharp) are so out of form its not true and Lee is still not ready to play. We have no cutting edge at the moment, no amount of new CBs will change that fact.

Still its only a friendly :-)

Some sense.......never been one for worrying about the order of signing but the need for at least one CB has been the most obvious for at least a year!!!

Have to agree, something needs to be done very quickly or next Sunday could be more embarassing than originally expected.

Exactly. We're not taking chances

CB's are not to blame for 25 yard screamers - although we do need some!

Man City last season were ridiculous at home. 18 wins and 1 draw. 55 goals scored (nearly 3 a game), 12 against. So they had an average score of a 3-1, except for 6 games which were 3-0. That's just an average.

If this is anything to go by they could run up a cricket score against us. Definitely a shot in the arm for where we actually are as a team, and how far we have to go.

Maybe the keeper then? Could he have done better?

Attendance of 3744.

Friendly attendances this time round have been nothing short of abject. Utterly rubbish, even the Skates got more than that against Bolton. Completely unsurprising given the pricing structure too. You'd think/hope the club would learn, but I very much doubt it.
