Tia Sharp - The Missing 12 Year Old - Development In Case

BBC saying that Police have raided and cordoned off the Grandmother's home.

Is it just me who, (and I know this may be bad to some), saw the Grandmother's boyfriend and thought he was in on it in some way?

Felt like he was holding something back? Something just didn't seem right.

I was in Crystal Palace park last week and given a flyer about her. Sounds like the community's efforts to get her found are going to be in vain, sadly.

I'm sure it's already been said but it's a little bit weird that the grandmother's boyfriend was questioned or was helping the enquiry. Grandmother's boyfriend? Is it me or does that suggest a family that are having children at stupidly young ages...

Both the parent and grandparent of the daughter must have been pretty young. The grandmother is 46 whilst the granddaughter is 12...

It's a sad fact that in the majority of abuse / murder cases involving children, the perpetrator is a member of the (extended) family. I guess that's why the grandmother's partner was interviewed.

Poor little mite, I hope she's OK but the longer this drags on the less likely that will be the case.

Whcih is why the Portuguese police went so hard on the McCann's. They did make a right balls up of the investigation, but the McCann's and media line seemed to be "how dare they suspect us".

I have noticed a marked difference in the treatment of this family compared to McCann's by the media. All the ex jail bird Grandad and Grandmothers boyfriend "interviwed" and a general nod and wink . The most likely outcome will be a family member or friend and they maybe "wrong uns", but it's heartbreaking.

I keep drumming it into my kids not to accept lifts from friends/collagues of mine or my Mrs' friends or work mates. It's a really sad state of affairs, but kids are wary of strangers they have never met before, but most of the time they will know their attacker in some way or other. Look at Huntly, that was their teaching asst's bloke.

Have you noticed the difference in the media's treatment of this family with the McCann's.

Quite,

It's shocking the things people can do to their own family, and equally shocking what they do them for.

should they not have searched the grandmothers property before now?

Also - the grandmother must be in on this in some way (not wanting to slander anyone) but you cant live in a house that small and not notice a body, surely??

Very sad.

It's all a bit dodgy but it's was suggested that the body might have been moved back into the house. Either that or the police will be accused on incompetence on an amazing scale.

either way - it's a bit dodge.

* If there was a body already in the house - why wasnt it found in the initial search.

* If there wasn't an initial search - why

* If the body was moved back into the huose - how was this not noticed by either the police or the worlds media?

There was a ex senior officer on Sky News. He said that they could not conduct a Forensic search on a griveing families property without first establishing just cause. He said that once they could find no cctv evidence of her and all reported sighting had proved to be false, then they could move. He did question the length of time, but said you can not go taking up floorboards ect until the evidence leads you there. He said there would have been a intial search, but you can not make it too indepth at that stage. Had the police taken up floorboards, conducted a forensic search using dogs, dug up the garden of Holly Wells family on day one, just think of the outcry. The police are really in a no win situation.

Very strange, very sad and, let's face it, very odd that a body is found a week later....

Understand the Just Cause line, but really, having seen the house on Sky News..........................

...what? They should just ignore rules of procedure when it's a poor/small house?

Apparently they searched the house 3 times before finding anything. Just seems strange that's all.

"A number of searches took place at the address. When Tia was first reported missing, officers searched her bedroom as is normal practice in a missing person’s enquiry," he said.

"A further search of the house took place in the early hours of Sunday morning by a specialist team.

"This was then followed by another search of the house by specialist dogs on Wednesday lunchtime.

and the grandmothers next door neighbour now

Ms Sharp's next-door neighbour Paul Meehan, 39, was later taken into custody on suspicion of assisting an offender.

is that where the body was hidden? or just a case of him helping the killer to get away

Well, there are searches and searches. And missing persons are very different to murders.

Having said that, it transpires that following the initial search (which would have been a 'look round'), it was subsequently searched by a specialist team, and then a dog, so it seems *very* odd that it wasn't found at that point. Either someone hasn't done their job properly, or the body was moved. The latter seems the only logical conclusion (after all, a dog doesn't know how to do a bad job), but rationally it doesn't make a lot of sense.

I hope you are a copper? If not, your talent is wasted!

I read a lot of spy non-fiction. One thing I picked up from them is if someone behaves in an odd way or out of character then there is almost always a reason.

When the family walked out the house carrying the candles the grandmother held her hand in front of her face as if to appear to be crying. It looked to me like she was just covering her face from the cameras as jf she had something to hide. It might be that she just didn't want her pic in the paper because she is **** ugly but in that scenario the only thing on her mind should be her missing kid.

OK so I guess somebody has seen their career go up in smoke this last week.

Strange and very sad

It would seem that the poor girl was found in the attic. Would a dog have been able to detect a body up there?

Tis weird that the surname Meehan links two missing children cases. Craig Meehan was Karen Matthews' boyfriend in the Shannon Matthews case, and Paul Meehan is the next door neighbour to Tia's grandmother that has been questioned for assisting an offender. Probably co-incidence, but still...
