Four Four Two have announced their prediction for the final positions in the PL.

1) Man City

2) Man Utd

3) Spurs

4) Arsenal

5) Chelsea

6) Liverpool

7) Newcastle

8 )Everton

9) Sunderland

10) Aston Villa

11) Stoke City

12) Fulham

13) QPR

14) Norwich

15) West Ham

16) Wigan

17) Southampton

18 ) Reading

19) West Brom

20) Swansea

I can't see Spurs finishing above arsenal, though agree with Chelsea in 5th. No way Stoke as high as 11th, I think they'll struggle. Bottom 5 or 6 about right, West Brom with Steve Clarke could be in trouble IMO.

Stoke remind me of us when we went down, had a good few seasons but now got an ageing squad which they haven't really improved with any real quality for a couple of season, they'll struggle. Wigan, WBA will also be down there. Like it or not we're in for a relegation battle as things stand. That bottom five or six will include Stoke and could be in any order. Although I think West Ham will do the best of the promoted sides.

Not sure they are all that although they got the champs right last year..both tables look pretty predictable (excuse the pun)!

Last year they predicted...

Manchester City

Chelsea

Manchester United

Liverpool

Arsenal

Spurs

Everton

Fulham

Stoke

Bolton

Sunderland

West Brom

Newcastle

Norwich

Aston Villa

Wolves

Swansea

Wigan

QPR

Blackburn

Where did they predict Norwich and Swansea to finish last year? Looks a bit like last years final with a couple of minor adjustments. In most seasons there is a big shuffle in the order of the middle ranking teams because in reality there are only a few points difference between 8th and 15th.

Answer above same time as I posted!

Wigan will go this season if they sell moses.

they have defied all the odds but they can't keep selling their best players and stay up...

Their run surely has to end sooner or later doesn't it?

Agree with people in Stoke, could be very good value. Unfortunately however their manager is a tough cookie who knows how to grind out the results needed.

Liverpool will finish below Newcastle and Arsenal will finish above Tottenham too, especially if they lose Modric. Think Norwich will struggle. They lack any really outstanding players and may struggle with second season syndrome. Especially without Lambert.

my copy turned up today, the preview for saints was a bit poor. no mention of NC, and clyne has apparently been signed as a central defender.

they had us down for mid table last year...

also, fleetwood to finish 4th in league 2 :-D

I don't think Newcastle will do as well, they seriously overachieved last year and clubs like Chelsea will not allow it to be as close next year.

I reckon BA will struggle to repeat his goal haul as well. They'll still be top half, but probably around 9th

Im also not sure why they think villa will Finish so high. Their squad is pants IMO. As last year proved....they're trying to rely on their young prospects, when a few of them are probably championship standard at best

I think there will be 3 distinct groups again this year. I think the top half is the easiest to predict by far, but I think there will be a few surprises in the rest. so in no particular order other than the 3 groups being distinguished (I certainly don't think Spurs will finish above Arsenal), here's my prediction. FWIW I think we will surprise a lot of teams this year, just as we did last year - but we will also get a couple of wallopings along the way.

1) Man City

2) Man Utd

3) Spurs

4) Arsenal

5) Chelsea

7) Newcastle

6) Liverpool

8 )Everton

9) Sunderland

10) Aston Villa

15) West Ham

18 ) Reading

You're complaining that a football magazine hasn't mentioned our chief exec in its season preview? Seriously?? Or do you mean another NC?

PS - I love the season preview FourFourTwo. Can't wait to get mine.

People keep saying Newcastle over achieved but they have a squad containing the likes of Krul, Coloccini, Santon, Tiote, Ben Arfa, Gutierrez, Ba and Pa**** Cisse. Thats about a strong a spine you get in the prem outside of Chelsea, Man City and Man Utd. It is streets ahead of Liverpool. Providing they do not sell anyone, they'll be in or around the top 6 or 7 again.

We can easily finish above, Wigan, Reading, West Ham, West Brom, Stoke, Norwich, Swansea, Villa and QPR (and maybe Sunderland) which leaves us 11th/10th area.

Most of those teams are either a. selling all their decent players and replacing them with champ standard prospects on prem wages, b. buying aged players who are past it or c. wasting money on over rated players that will get them no where (Sunderland/Stoke especially).

These teams we should target to beat home and away without too many problems (Reading probably wont be in the form we met them in last season), with Fulham, Everton, Liverpool, Newcastle and Spurs to concentrate on the home games and let the aways be a bit of a laugh.

We should be fine more because at least half the prem are living on borrowed time, buying prem "stars" from the big clubs that they haven't quite made a name at to hang on to their undeserved big earnings, or going one season showing what good management is then loose the manager to big money and not really be able to make anything more of it.

Will be a fun season!

Who's angry? If anything, chuckling away.

Swiss money and the manager just about covers it, especially for a magazine for the general football reader. Getting upset because the chief exec hasn't been namechecked is pretty bonkers really. I'll be getting my copy tomorrow and I won't be apologising or upset that a chief executive has not been mentioned in a season preview supplement.

The When Saturday Comes season preview has us 19th.

We were often one of the favourites to go down in this but things started to improve around 2000 and the number of fans of other teams thinking we would get relegated dwindled until, finally, not a single respondent had us down to go down. That was 2004/05 - the year we did go down!

So, 19th should equate to comfortable survival.

I really cant see WHU doing that well, they have no cash for transfers and play some god aweful football, I think we are lucky that Swansea, wigan, Norwich and West Brom will probably all struggle this year.

Although I am optimistic we will escape, its not unrealistic to realise why so many predict we will drop, personally I am pleased with our signings, if not slightly worried they wont have the experience for a dog fight

and who said I was upset? I just said it was a poor article, going on about our late billionaire owner and Adkins, I feel there is a missing link. there's just no real reason for attacking me over my opinion on the article, especially when u havnt even read it...

good to see others jumping on the bandwagon tho

Why do you say West Ham have no cash for transfers?

All of their transfers have been undisclosed so there's no way of knowing for sure; but it looks like so far they've spent around £7M or £8M. They were looking at Carroll for a £2M loan fee (which would have taken them up to our level of spending), and God only knows what they are and will be paying in wages.

For all the talk of them being financially f*cked, they're certainly not being run like that. They do play some poor football, but they have some good players and Allardyce is a good manager in this division who proved with Blackburn that he can get a poor side to comfortable mid-table. I think West Ham will finish the highest of the promoted sides.

Ridiculous comment, isn't it?

BFS will do alright for West Ham, think they'll finish top of the promoted clubs.

Considering he's finished above us with every club he's ever managed with the exception of West Ham so far, and taken Bolton & Blackburn into solid midtable clubs as well as being sacked by Newcastle when they were midtable (a season later they were relegated) then yes it is.

My prediction -

1) Man City

2) Man Utd

3) Chelsea

4) Arsenal

5) Spurs

6) Liverpool

7) Newcastle

8) QPR

9) Everton

10) Sunderland

11) West Ham

16) Southampton

17) Swansea

18) Norwich

19) Reading

20) Wigan

Why do people think QPR will do so well? I just dont get it. They struggled last year and now they will be amnaged for a whole season by Mark Hughes!!! This is a man who starts well - well he's a BIG manager - but then everyone realises he is an arrogant tosser and he uspets players and owners alike, everything goes downhill and he gets sacked/'resigns'. I predict a definite repeat and 19th place.

Because Hughes has a decent track record as a manager?

Because they have signed some decent players?

Because they can attract good players on decent wages?

So far they've attracted some decent "been there done that players" and also some attacking options in Park and Hoilett. Their transfers have an element of short-termism to them, but they are good solid signings and QPR will not go down this year, I'd have decent money on it.

When Saturday Comes has us in 19th position. We will do better than that

To be fair, that's a cumulative table from the 20 club representatives who contribute to their Prem reviews, so it's the opinion of 17 people who by definition were mostly watching Premier League matches last season and probably have no idea about either us or Reading, but know West Ham and Big Sam's teams reasonably well.

Interesting that we were above Reading though.

It's tolerated now because we've been doing well but the amount of self praise and attention that NC lavishes on himself through our official media channels is nothing short of weird.

Don't get me wrong, I find the ego of the bloke quite funny. That programme cover the other season was fantastic.

Many 'experts' will argue that we lack experience and becasue we play 'football' will not have the grit to survive... same experts probably said the same about swansea. Think it will all come down to being prepared to stick to our guns and play our way - will mean some tonkings against the best but also some unexpected victories - trying to 'get in sides faces' and'grinding out results' is most sides approach to survival, especially against the betters sides, but IMHO, that approach means we lose sight of what we are about - and again IMHO ithink we stand more chance of survival if we 'surprize' a few sides that if we follow the cliched convention. All about confidence and giving it a good go - yep we will get patronized as pluck Saints, but dont give a shietd about that if we stick to our style and look to entertain. Our success over the last two seasons has been built on that approach... up against a far better quality, but everything is possible, if we dont lose heart after a tonking.

You can't argue with any publication that puts us in the bottom three.

Reality for any promoted team is you do very well to stay up and if you can be outside the main dogfight then you have more than exceeded expectations.

Don't you dare come on here with that sort of reasoned expectation. Our inexperienced squad and average new signings are going to walk this league. Swansea did it, therefore we're almost certain to follow suit...

My season preview will actually be up next Thursday. Got the dates mixed up.

I've said one or two things that I know will cause debate, namely last season who played the best style of football and our new kit. I was asked, and I told!

We played functional football last season; great at times, long at times, direct at times. It worked for us, and it was very entertatining, but it wasn't like watching Brazil. Blackpool played some great football, I enjoyed watching them (apart from when they took us to the cleaners).

Our new kit has been done to death, I'm yet to meet anyone in real life (Saints fan or otherwise) who actually likes it.

have u read the article?

it's the context, they basically praise a dead man for hiring NA. imo it's just poor journalism, not that he deserves to be mentioned.

it was a moot point anyway, but I guess the usual suspects have to score thier points in every thread.

love the fact that u all pick up in my devotion for NC yet dont acknowledge the fact that clyne is not a centre back.

but alas, u havnt read the article.

Think in most reasoned heads we all know ythat it will be very tough and will ned some lick as well as some odd results to get to the 12-17 and that that would be a good first season back - something to build on.

Its only our hearts that say we can really surprize in this league...afterall we were predicted mid table last year...blah blah...

We have just got to enjoy it and see what happens. New signings take a while to gell, and we need a ensure we dont get intimidated, and just play OUR game - aim high and dont get sucked into to the idea that medicocrity or pluckiness is OK.

We will not win more games than w elose... but we should REALLY strive to.

We played the best brand of football - an attractive and successful one. I don't know of any other team that did. I do not care for Reading's style of play and they weren't in the top two all season - we were.

The kit is the only negative thing I can think of. I don't want to say anything about signings, as I'm not a total idiot, there is still plenty of time to bring in the numbers we need.
