Moving to London

Hillingdon. The place where dreams go to die. But it is west, on the tube, and relatively cheap, as I recall. Else the Dallas of the South, Croydon was very forgiving in terms of entry and return to Victoria (nurse!) or London Bridge, plus the tram. Take your point about the old joints, even if you're 'door to door' with the tube, there's still lots of walking involved in some tube stations. However, London isn't forgiving for the 'semi disabled' (I consider myself one of these), if you're slow, you'll get knocked over.

Why not look for something on the east london line (overground) much more reliable than the tube and you can get more for your money in east london. Also there's far more places to go out and a much better standard of women!

I'd dispute both those points actually!

East London has become fashionable with dickheads. Many are around my age, wear loafers with no socks, turned up jeans, ironic t-shirts and fake glasses. I'm sure there are nice people there but that category of person is around too.

I asked for some inside photos of an Ealing property on Thursday evening.

On Friday morning I found myself being told that I had arranged a viewing and would need to move in within a week and that I would be giving over a fee of £600 for doing so. A £600 moving in fee? Is that normal?

At any rate, I told them I wouldn't be going to their viewing owing to their hostile manner and have withdrawn interest in the property.

A moving in fee!? Deposit? Seems too low for that and too high for admin fees?

How's the search going?

  • 1 month later...

Digging up an old thread here... I got the permanent contract at work and we are now in Holborn, having spent three months in the delightful area of Crystal Palace.

I'm looking to move again but have experienced a less than inspirational time looking online for properties. This is my first job, so my wages and subsequently my budget is low.

A few of you said avoid the tube and I now know why. The other day I went to go from Chancery Lane to Waterloo and I didn't even bother trying to get on the train that arrived as it was beyond packed. Instead I went completely the other way and just about made my train home. I'm going to get the 512 from Tenison Way to Brownlow Street in the future. With all that in mind, being on the Central Line is no longer a priority.

Any advice?
