Hamilton Saint Posted 7 August, 2012 Share Posted 7 August, 2012 Was thinking of sorting one for Saturday instead of the usual BBQ, anyone have any experience or know the cheapest way to do a DIY one in Southampton...? I spoke to some guys doing a hog roast in Frome, Somerset in early July. You could talk to them. Hinton HogRoasts: www.hogroasts.webs.com. They're based in Edington, Wilts. angelman Posted 7 August, 2012 Share Posted 7 August, 2012 Not a hog roast, but I had a mate BBQ a goat in his (metal!!!) wheelbarrow. Wrapped the whole thing in tin foil and put coals all over it. Damn good is goat, and might well be cheaper than a pig.

Saint-scooby Posted 8 August, 2012 Share Posted 8 August, 2012 An average sized pig will feed between 80 to 100 people, takes about 5 hours.
swannymere Posted 8 August, 2012 Share Posted 8 August, 2012 A whole pig was until quite recently £100 from Bookers cash & carry. All you need is a couple of sawhorses, a solid metal pole and a small area where you can build a fire pit. Job Done.

scotty Posted 8 August, 2012 Share Posted 8 August, 2012 They do them at uptons of bassett. Very nice it is too! Give Upton's a call. Yep, the Italian guy there is the person to talk to. We had a hogroast from them a couple of years back but its certainly not cheap, plus they need a bit of notice; the pig wont arrive at your place raw, they slow-cook it the day before and finish it off on the spit. (christ, that sounds filthy.) Theres always Southampton Butcher Shop in Captains Place/Terminus Terrace for a diy solution.
