Probably, and you can't read much into pre season games but you look at the starting team and subs tonight and there aren't too many nailed on Prem players.

Once the season is started and the Man City game is out of the way, I think we will look ok.

Hope so, that's when it counts. Just a couple of additions will hugely strengthen us so they can't come soon enough.

Well at least we're only talking about 1 or 2, rather than needing 5 or 6 new players......

cue mass hysterie about how woefully short we are in defence and of we dont sign rio ferdinand in the enxt 13 minutes we will be doomed.

We need more defenders NOW or we're doomed, doomed, doooooooooooooooomed! I'm of for a cry. Dead certs for relegation with 0 points.

TBF if we don't sign a new CB or 2, we probably are. No real joke in that.

Would guess NA thinks the same.

Hopefully it's not as bad as the injury Chaplow picked up there last year.

Its not a good place for us......who picked Bristol City as a pre season warm up game ? :uhoh:

Agree...think we are still crying out for another wide threat. Don't think we ever replaced AOC and we were ok last season but the wide options this season won't cut it.

Yeah I was quite on board with the 4-3-3, but I ain't sure it suits Ricky, and picking the wide forwards from Rodrigues, Puncheon, Guly or De Ridder ain't gonna frighten anyone. It might suit Lee I spose but I ain't seen enough of him to say for sure.

Since when was the point of pre-season games to win easily? Games like this one and Ajax will provide us with a decent test, as opposed to those Swedish pub teams we beat 12-0 a few years ago.

I was referring to the Chaplow injury last season and the Cork one tonight, not the scoreline

Well JRod isnt a winger he needed to play a wide midfielder there, imo lambert hasn't scored in this new formation yet, sharp and rod has looked better upfront but still worried NA is going to use ppl out of position like JR on the left and Guly on the right, it isnt going to work, keep players where they play best...we also need a CB or 2 before the start. Also need Lee back asap.

So you're saying we shouldn't have played there because one of our players picked up an injury at that ground last season.

By that logic we shouldn't play any games at St Marys either because Barnard got a bad injury there.

Sharp is the only striker in form. Adkins has tough choice to make. Billy is oozing confidence which can't be said about JRod and lambert

Rodriguez isn't being played upfront in a central role and does Lambert not deserve credit for the knock down that set Sharp up tonight?

Yep, sounds like a classic Lambo setup.

Still not massively sure about Rodriguez on the left hand side, although it's dynamic and not a ''static'' left sided position, I'd just feel better if he was up front as an out and out striker. I have a feeling he'd prefer that too, just a hunch I've got from his body language in the games I've seen him play.

Le Tissier didn't score a lot in preseason, didn't mean he wouldn't have a good season.

Dear me. Who was actually in danger of calling the Samaritans? Or did you make it up?

Having been on this forum for god-knows-how-many-years, we know there are always some out there who aren't far away...

Yes, but are there any on here?? Right now??

Hysterical accusations are a complete nonsense.

Agreed. Can we wait for these people to actually turn up before we take the moral high ground over them.

BTW, saying things like, 'we need to improve,' 'Player X isn't playing well' or 'we need to sign another XXXXXX' doesn't count. That's just making a rational observation.

Corks limps off...not a good evening.

Thankfully it doesn't look like it is too bad...

Isnt there only one person being slightly hysterical about a throwaway comment by one poster?

We really weren't great tonight, but depends how you view pre season games and Bristol City were always going to be a tough test. Hard not to feel our squad isn't quite strong enough yet though.

I don't know Tim. You tell me. I don't even know what you're asking.

Doesn't sound good, either. "Just swelling atm" could mean anything at all.

Im just saying Ron made a single wry throwaway comment. As fans we dont have to look for divisions before the season has even started :)

Well in that case I'm sorry my dismissal of Ron's throwaway comment caused you so much distress.

Surely the left-sided forward position in a 4-3-3 (which goes to a 4-5-1 when we haven't got the ball), is the ideal position for Lallana. As you say, Rodriguez in an out and out striker. We're going to have fierce competition for places up front. Come the end of the window, we'll need that competition all over the pitch.

@jonstead9: good test for us tonight against a strong saints team, first 20 mins they were like barcelona

See nothing to worry about ;-)

Excellent performance tonight, unfortun8 2 concede a worldy goal but generally bossed the game!! #positive

So either we played like European champions, or got "bossed" by a less than average Championship team.
