Interestingly, heard a strong rumour that Southampton may be due new owners/investors. Current chairman Cortese has been abroad with the owners over the last few weeks finalising the sale. Not sure if he's staying as part of the deal though. The new deal is fronted by ex Saints COO Andy Oldknow with the money coming from the Middle East. Not Man City rich, but stil very rich. Only dela in announcing is the 'fit and proper' test on the new owners - but that's expected to be a formality.""

To be honest if the actual owners aren't really interested I could see NC putting a consortium together to buy them out, doubt if it would change very much for the club though. Can't see NC going anywhere else at any time soon, wouldn't be surprised if he quite likes running a football club.

I'm sure Cortese once said in one of his BBC interviews that if ever the Liebherr family wanted to pull out of the club, he has people with serious funds ready to step in, take over and continue bankrolling the club, We are in no problems.

EDIT: I was right. Video at bottom of this page - 1:30 onwards...

"Southampton are in a very strong position and people envy that fact," he said.

"If there's any lack of commitment [from the family] we have a plan B. I know people with money who would have the same attitude as Markus who would join us on this. But, just to underline, the commitment of the family is 100%."

This is an ongoing recycled rumour that won't go away.

No doubt absolute b0ll0cks, and any grain of credibility was gone with mention of Oldknow.

My recollection is that Oldknow left Saints under a cloud the second time, and possibly imvolved a dispute with NC, but that was some time ago so a bit blurred.

Also, once put the name Andy Oldknow in a anagram generator, it came back with 'only odd w^nk ' .

He was brought in by Cortese as someone who knew the club and help out in the early days after the takeover. I understand Oldknow was expecting a permanent role but never got one, hence felt a bit used and didn't go on the best of terms.

I doubt this story has any truth in it. Cortese's actions in improving the academy infrastructure and stated intention to eventually increase the stadium capacity (or even build a new one) suggests to me that he and the Liebherr family are in it for the long term and I really hope they are. Although their investment has given us a considerable advantage in the transfer market they've spent money wisely on players with the right attitude and are applying sound business sense to running the club.

I see no actual evidence presented to support this rumour, but the possibility that the club might indeed be up for sale should not just be dismissed out of hand.

Given the circumstances a change of ownership can only be a matter of time anyway .....

What evidence do you expect? For sale signs outside of SMS? Adverts in the paper? Something on eBay? I'm sure if someone offered the Libherrs £100m they'd seriously consider it. It's just the usual Bol*ocks rumours that go round now and again.

And some common sense here. Do people really think we'd be sending out teasers of stadium expansions, training ground expansions etc etc, if they were looking to sell.

It's about time people just started to enjoy where we are going and appreciate it after the last 7 years.

If you think about it, that is EXACTLY what you would do if you were looking to sell...

Really? How so?

I'm not sure how lashing out £15M on an upgraded training ground that can't be seen yet (and apparently is over the top in requirements given that we've already achieved top ranking in Premier League Academy ratings without it) is any surefire way to sell a club and maximise profits.

Edit; I forgot the ;-) thing.....
